Glad your ok Shep.

Must be the time of year, i had a similar experiance yesterday afternoon on the slip road onto the M90 at bridge of earn. Pulled onto slip road in 2nd and gave it a bit of gas,now the type r is a bit lairy in the wet but this was different, back end came right round instantly and sent me nose first over the kerb which was luckily an angled one and not flat faced.

It was deep gravel for drainage on the other side luckily and that stopped me hitting the banking, got away very lightly with a few scratches on the alloy but could have been a lot worse.

Kwik Fit put my new wheels and tyres on,on friday afternoon and i was on my way back from Falkland after getting my geometry set-up when this happened. Car wasnt feeling right so checked tyre pressures, 36 psi all round!! was like driving on ice its no wonder the back stepped out so quick! will be having words with the fitter tomorrow!

Col.

Col i would be demanding that they pay for the damage to the wheel!! Lucky escape there could have been alot worse as you are probably more aware than most! Good luck sorting them out.

Well been down to the recovery yard and arranged for it to be brought to the girlfriends place so will get a proper look at it soon.

Here's the damage though, see what you think. Radiator is pushed back hard against the timing belt but engine still works. Had it on for a few seconds before turning it off due to sounding like it was going to explode.

Hey,

Really sorry to hear about the crash. I hope it all gets sorted pronto for ya and you're feeling better soon. I managed to rip the offside wheel off last august when a Passat smacked me (now they are one tough car god damn it!). As long as you're fully comp the insurance will pick up any storage fees so don't worry on that score. Mine was in the repairers within 2 days of the accident. Given the damage was mostly cosmetic and the wheel came out cleanly, as in where it broke, the repair was fairly straight forward. I had mine inspected afterwards by the RAC and the bloke was very happy with it. Drives just fine now thank goodness. So don't lose heart, these things are never nice but as long as all the people walk away then the car can be put back together.

Chin up mate!

Thanks for all the comments folks, it's very much appreciated. It's all beginning to sink in now, just keep staring at the pictures and try to remember exactly what happened but with not much avail. Got to return to the scene and retrieve the fog light covers, wing mirror as reminders of how lucky I am.

Och  man ! , thats a nasty mess but youll be fine and so will the car.

You said " how lucky I am "

You are lucky mate, having seen 4 deaths happen in front of me. Not a paramedic or anything to do with the emergency services - just a driver on the publc roads, you live to tell the tale.

That is good.

Take good care of you and yours.

Alan + the girls.

Very true Alan, am thanking my lucky stars I'm still here.

Should have popped over Neil :o) The girlfriend said she saw two guys looking over when I was taking pics, guessing that was yourself? Think she said hi or smiled?

It's a good feeling to have people being sympathetic and caring at times like this.

Thanks guys

Got some bad news folks :)(

Car's a write off. The damage done to the front end of the body and engine are beyond economical repair. Just got to get my number plate put on retention before the car is written off. Ah well, guess I'll just have to jump back on again.

Thanks for all the kind words through all this folks :o) will hopefully be out and about in a new motor soon.

Cheers,

Shep

Ouch - that's enough to make anyone cry, at least your ok but can imagine what you feel like.

You should see what you can get of the car to sling on ebay or re-use - when my dads car was written of last month the garage let us strip out what we could before it went to the scrapies.

Audio, spare wheel, platesm, alloys etc etc

Yeah am gonna speak to them about that and see what the deal is. It has the Prodrive ST2 wheels on it so I'll be gutted if I can't salvage them. Have already taken the stereo out but forgot to take out the V12 amp, grrr!!

What a bummer mate[:)] doesnt look too bad fae the pics either. Obviously the hidden stuff is the reason for the write off!!?

hope you get sorted with the insurance and get mobile again soon.

sorry to hear it's a write off mate, as said before it's prob the bits you cant see that's the big expense. when i crashed mine it didn't look too bad but ended up being over £10k [;)]

Try and salvage what you can and sell it, more money you make for a deposit on the next subaru the better.

Yeah it's the unseen damage that's caused the write off. Bit of a bugger. I've asked about salvage and the girl was about as much use as one legged triple jumper! "Erm... no, I don't think you can salvage it.." Arse! Will see what I can do when they're making me an offer on her.

Really want to salvage the wheels and get them refurbed for the next car ;))

Not sure if the UK insurance companys work the same as the German ones, but over here you can do a deal ie keep the salvage and get money to. They did this with my version 1. By the insurance estimates mine was beyond eco repair. I got it fixed by a bodyshop at a fraction of what the estimates that Subaru had given. 6500 euro through the insurance i got the labour done for 800 cash[;)] and the parts sourced from Glenburgie cost me £220. The insurance payed me 4600euro so i had quite a bit of change left.Maybe worth looking into mate.

hi bud sorry to hear about the accident...i work for a recovery agent and we deal a lot with the insurance companies and dont see a prob with removing the wheels,it happens a lot...is car still at recovery yard or do you have it at home? if its at home just change the wheels and take anything off it before it gets picked upp...the insurance never see the car again as they send out the likes of watsons or universal salvage to pic them up and they dont know what the car was like in first place..hope that helps a little

The car was at Arnold Clarks in Dundee but I reckon the insurance have moved it to a salvage yard. Need to get them to send me the tax disc so I can change the plate then get the car written off.

Once I've found out where it is I'll go and see if I can get the wheels.

What's your car TayScooby? I'm driving in and about perth nearly everyday, might know the car? :D)
