davey l wrx Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 It's that joyous time of year again and i've never quotes as wild and wide as i've been receiving this year. They go from £380 to over £2500. For the last year i've been with M&S and they can't insure me this year as the car is modified - exactly the same as it was last year, a magnex cat back exhaust! Apparently their underwriters don't want to touch modified cars due all the claims they've had with the bad winter........ Cos thats the fault of modified cars! It just makes me wonder where some the quotes come from i've got 9+ years protected no-claims and i'm 38..... The search continues..
Richie Cross Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I take it you've tried the usual suspects....Keith Michaels, A Plan etc? I'm 37...full ncb. All mods declared with me and the wife driving my MY05 WRX. £430 this year. Down from last year.
scouk Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Both my car insurances went up this year.. Despite one of them obtaining it's 1st year NCB Grrr! Was expecting both of them to drop as milage has effectively halfed on the Impreza ... sure I could go for multi car discounts with some companies but they don't seem to like the Impreza.. particularly because it's modified.. Bout time every car was fitted with a ANPR system to track down non insured/taxed/licenced drivers...
gus the bus Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 (edited) I'm the same at the mo as mine is due on 11th June. company I'm with at the moment wont insure me next year I've done a trawl of all the suspects and RAC and Liverpool Victoria seem to be the best @ c£270-£315 depending on level of cover. Some of the quotes from the supposed "Performance specialists" were just ridiculous!!!!! 41 yrs old with max no claims etc......... Edited May 26, 2010 by Gus the Bus
JasonW Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Thats the only good thing about getting old - cheaper car insurance. I'm a grand a year for insurance on the scoob and 400 on the mx5 also. Couldnt get it cheaper done individually either otherwise i would have. I am with admiral and they are terrible IMO and ive had nothing but problems with them. Good luck on the quote though!
stevie 4 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 try 1st central iv only got two years ncb still have an open case for being shunted on a roundabout.only a smudge over £500 my own insurace company kwik fit wanted £1200 ceeya byebye
Scooby Wagon Addict Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Davey and Gus .. I too have 9 yrs NCB .. This week I just insured through Keith Michaels, ask to speak to Gary Moulsen or tell them its for a modified scoob 1st .. cant recommend them enough .. I dealt with Patrick .. I was with Elephant last year and my renewal came tthro.. £780! Again same old excuse modified cars are high risk .. B***oks! Phoned K.M. and they'll do it for £600 all mods declared and more mod friendly for the future too. I personally HATE LV with a passion! Years ago they're the barstewards who cancelled my policy half way thro its term when they changed their minds on insuring modified vehicles .. couldnt insure through anyone else without it costing £1000s and in the end it cost me the car and a stack of money! Hope this helps, Steve
thebigfelly Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 with privlage the now 5 yrs no claims going on 6 , insurance due in june. was £450 for the hyundia and cost me £70 to get it changed to the scoobaru for admin fee's so waiting on the proper reual quote from them hoping it wont be any more than £750 but have the felling itl be up the the grand region
st3ph3n Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Apparently the word "quote" and "valid for 60 days" actually means "rough guess" and "not valid beyond this phone call" with insurance companies too. That's unless you shout at them that you'll go elsewhere. I'll not bore you all with how little I'm paying now I'm scoob-less
mitchel Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 hi try aplan mate as they are ok with mods, also as stated moley at keith michaels, moley wrx on scoobynet
ciaranrb5 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I was with Greenlight but had a big fall out with them. Was with Keith Michaels before i took the car off the road paying about £600ish and im 27 with 5NCD and no points all mods declared
b4z Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 keith micheals must not like younger drivers. tryed 2 insure my blob sti my car has an alarm immob and a tracker. i have 7 year ncb no points and they would not touch me. would immgine its because am only 24. bell has always been the best for me
phil1967 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 i'm paying around 480 for the sub and wait for it 140 for my defender.full no claims protected, legal cover and hire car.i'm with IAM sureaty.
terzo neil Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 i am £523 on a multicar policy thro admiral for 2 scooby turbo's
StewartyBoy Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I had to laugh at Elephant.. Multi Car Discount...PAH! 54 Saab 9-3ss Aero - 24 Year Old - £585 Full Comp 08 Seat Ibiza Sport - " " - £737...!? So I decided the word "Discount" in the above mentioned sentence meant it would be cheaper but... £2550!!!!
StrikE Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 £344 with privilege, must be my age! fully comp 9+ years ncb.
boab type ra Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 watever you do don`t get a traker i thought it would bring the insurance down but instead it shot up 150 quid
thebigfelly Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 £344 with privilege, must be my age! fully comp 9+ years ncb. lets hope privilage giv me a decent quote then , if not will be trying for admiral multi car
JasonW Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 watever you do don`t get a traker i thought it would bring the insurance down but instead it shot up 150 quid are you serious? How do they work/explain that one? I was looking at getting one so tht it would lower my insurance some more!
bobbyc Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I'm the same it's getting harder to justify scoob ownership, GB for a 50 yr old git with max no claims £500 protected all mods declared, £425 for road tax + servicing = £1050 on an oil service year before turning a wheel, V-power £1.29 a litre, RA ins £360 Road tax £195 plus upkeep of a 16 yr old car £950, So £2000 before turning a wheel, The question has to be asked ? I love my cars but it's becoming an expensive hobby
scouk Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I love my cars but it's becoming an expensive hobby Tend to agree. Cost of insurance/tax et.c. is contantly increasing.. Fuel has gone up a rediculous amount! near £70 for 270miles these days!... Just booked the scoob in for an MOT that's now up to £54! ... No wonder it's only done 3,000 miles that last 12 months.. I've genuinely started looking at the new Honda CR-Z or maybe the Impreza hybrid when it comes out
boab type ra Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 are you serious? How do they work/explain that one? I was looking at getting one so tht it would lower my insurance some more! When i bought my girlfriends scooby the guy said it had a tracker and gave me all the paper work for it. it`s £135 a year to activate it, when i insured the car it told them it had a tracker but wasn`t active they told me to contact them when it is active and i would have to pay an aditional charge of £150 but could not tell me why
davey l wrx Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 The search continues...... 1 company wanted me to fit a tracker, another 2 won't insure the car because of the exhaust. One of them wanted to see a receipt from when it was bought and fitted and a readout from a rolling road to see if it had increased the BHP of the car.... The fact it was fitted when i bought the car didn't seem to be getting through to the call centre wench. Hopefully it'll get sorted in the next few days as the insurance runs out next sunday. Think a call to Keith Michaels could be in order.
flat4phil Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Davey, Not sure if this is a new one to you, but have you tried... http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/modified_imported.html They operate on an old school telephone service - phone for a quote - and they may be of some use; going to try them myself in next 2-weeks
