scouk Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Maybe not to everyones liking as black seems to be in the in colour at the moment but it's nice to be different 18" Oz Ultraleggera's in Chrystal Titanium: And somethign a little arty-farty! Early days yet as I still need to scrub them in a bit.. memories of Alford a coupel years back on fresh rubber still firmly in my mind the 18" dont half change the feel of the car though.. Seems much smoother, better balanced and a nicer, more weighted feeling on the steering! Grip on the T-1R's? erm... wont know for a few 100 miles yet, on the wet roads today on brand new rubber it was erm... slippy..
BalliSTIc Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Nice one Al... they do make a helluva diff to the handling! A bit "old skool" big-rims-and-dropped-springs... but if it's good enough for the GB270s it's good enough for me! Silver on red is very tidy... at least you resisted gold! *lol*
Midnight21 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I think that looks really good especially the Mica red
cruz104 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I think that looks really good especially the Mica red Aye that colour of wheel goes really well with that shade of red.
StrikE Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Oh sparkly, nice rims Al just in time for the run next month
Kosy Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Nice choice. Cracking looking car, especially liking the headlamps
scouk Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 Thanks for the feedback guys n' gals! Wasn't sure about them when I first stuck them on. But think it was just that they looked soo much different to standard 17's More I see them the more I'm convinced they were the right choice.. They've been lying in the spare room since start of the year waiting until the snow, most pot-holes and general salty crap been brushed off the roads Matty - It's currently sitting on standard/KYB shocks and Prodrive Springs. Initial balance seems to be spot on! The wheels really have made nice changes to the driving of the car. Wider track, fatter tyres and slightly heavier steering all add up and make it feel that liitle bit better than it did before. Better balance and overall feels more stable, little surprised TBH.. But can't comment on more agressive driving until the tyres are suitable scrubbed. One thing I have noticed is that on the Prodrive Springs the back sits a few mm higher than the front which looks a bit odd with an empty boot.. Set of BC/Apex coilovers required methinks P.s. Can't quite see it from the 2nd photo but theres also a set of blobeye "style" rear lights on there too..
scouk Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 Sorry for the questions fella, but I'm looking into replacing my 17 inch prodrives at the mo, and didn't consider 18's until seeing your pics looks so much better balanced imo.... :D So what size do you have - rims/tyres? No worries.. 7.5" wide wheel with 225x40x18 tyres... Would have gone for 235's but the Toyo's were bundled with the wheels I've been getting pestered for the past 3 years or so from members on here telling me to put bigger wheels on.. I'f I'm honest, the 18" Ultraleggera's still look a little small due to the design and could probably have gotten away with 19's but ride quality would no doubt suffer quite a bit more.. and 18" tyres are cheaper than 19's
scoob fae ork Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Thats pretty darn smart mate very nice choice
euan_r Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 very good alan, aboot time. my wheels are fairly chipped with state of roads recently so a wise move there, keeping them off.
scooby222 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 nice choice Al, still quite fancy a set myself-in gold of course lol freshens the car up nicely cant wait to see what else youve got planned just one thing- you did check the wheel nuts were tight didnt you
stevenhiggster Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 they look very And it is nice to be different, I dunno about anyone else but I'm starting to think black wheels are a bit too common now, remember wht happened when everyone had 3 spokes? It'll happen again with black wheels. That's why I kept mine gold
thefastone Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Pestered? Wow, thats being polite... I think that what I've been doing boarders more on Harrasment!!!!! Serious though, about bloody time too! I've been on at you at LEAST 3 years to get them changed and WOW what a difference its made! I'm also glad that you have taken the step up to the 18's too, as I think that newages suit them better... also, the Silver is pretty refreshing on your car too...
micra_wrc Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 the colour goes well with your car and seem to fill the arches quite nice. As for the rear sitting high, just put heavy stuff in your boot... no need for coilovers then!
kennyuk300 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 car is looking great Al Good choice of wheels mate Kenny
thewelsho Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 car is looking great Al Good choice of wheels mate Kenny Very nice and about time too!
scouk Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 How are you getting on with these badboys mate? Are your tyres now scrubbed in? I'm still messing around trying to decide on the 18's or not lol!!!! need to decide now, as my tyres are well tired lol!! Looks like i can only stretch to 1k so it looks like some inovits at the mo..... A side from the various other problems with the car at the mo *sigh* ... ... Wheel & tyre combo going great!... Not quite 1,000 miles on them yet, but have noticed the past couple of days they are really starting to get their grip! They certainly have a different feel to teh Bridgestone RE050's I'm used to, more flex tin the sidewall for sure, which isn't somethign I've never really liked the feel of before. But it seems to be not too bad with the toyo's, it just reminds you when you are beign a bit of a tit and still seems to give a fair bit of grip even after that! I still don't have that initial *bite* when turning into corners which has always left me with lack of confidence with the car.. Hoping future suspension modifications can sort that out, rather than relying on mini scandinavian flicks Ride quality has suffered a little on the 18" The rough road surface aroudn my home definately feel rougher than before, but makes the car feel more solid. Also getting more road noise, probably though a combination of 18"'s and the Toyo's. But since the scoob isn't my primary everyday car, I can live with it.. Wheels don't take long to clean either, just have to remember to keep on top of it and get used to washing the inner rims too
BalliSTIc Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Wheels don't take long to clean either, just have to remember to keep on top of it and get used to washing the inner rims too Aye, there's a fair few corners that catch the dirt!
