Note the fitment of a V Band at this section.

I'm going to be running a fully unsilenced system for track/strip ...

Don't forget there are noise restrictions at KH now :D:rolleyes:

Peter - congratulations on having testicles the size of belgium.

Thanks Stephen  but i don't have the testicles the size of belgium, they are much smaller than that.

Its all in the course of progression, nothing ventured is nothing gained right?

TBH...this and every other project that we all do is alot of R & D for others to look at.No doubt there will be issues that will bite back harder than you care to know but doing things slightly different is all part of modding.

Without us mad modders out there to push the bonderies that bit further, we will never make any advancements.

Plus AndyF has already ran this set up on his drag car for a few years but that is a pure race car.

And Zen is currently running the set up on their Time Attack car but then its still very much a race car.

So what i'm trying to do is to make it more available(to read) to the general public/scooby modders and see what it can be acheived from my round of modifcations.I only hope that everything works out well as the certainty is still a very much an unknown factor on a road car point of view.

The car is currently at Greersport to get measured for the front end work, i.e-custom rad/fmic combo, custom mounts to support the rad/fmic which is being made out of T35 which is what roll cages are made from iirc, custom slam panel, removal of the standard fit bonnet catches, fitment of aero bonnet catches,a new oil catch/breather system plus a few other bits and pieces that i've forgotten about.

Pics to be continued later this week.

Well, I thought I would drag this back to the top.

What the script o subaru knowledgemeister? is there a chink of light at the end of the tunnel or is your car just gathering dust in a garage in Beith?

Im ready for a base map and run in.

Here is a wee update from the past wee while.

As usual stuff always take longer than forcasted but as this is not an off the shelf mod it is to be expected.

Got the headers and exhaust back from ceramic coating and big thanks to Wullie @ Meercat for sorting it out.

And all fitted back on to the car. This pic also shows the support that is being fabricated to support the custom rad and fmic combo. The cradle will be able to be detacted from the car holding both the rad and fmic in one big unit.

Some more close up shots of the coating.

Now just waiting for the intercooler to arrive from the USA and the next part can be done.

Awsome build Peter (solberg), think i will br around for another spin in the car.. :)

did Meerkat do the coatin themselves?

Very neat peter, and its nice to see the job being kept so clinical however the benefits of what you have done compared to the results expected from a similar set up in the rotated position are minimal. Although its nice to see something different I struggle to comprehend why you have done it when the gains dont weigh against the cost.

I do wish you well, however I cant help think you wasting your money.

Talking of money, might have been cheaper just to by an of the shelf subaru part.

This is going on the new legacy. Not quite the same league of turbo though.

I have done a little research before the project has started and then have spoken to both Pat Hepburn and Paul Blairmore about my plans and they both have given advise which i thank them for greatly.AndyF has also been contacted has given his advise.

They have pointed out the advantages of going front mounted turbo and the obvious one being the shorted header pipes to aid the spool up of the turbo.

A typical front mounted turbo setup may gain upto 700rpm in spool up time iirc so its well worth it when the turbo is a little larger than normal.

Plus to run a twin scroll turbo in the rotated position i may need to loss the brake servo and replace it with a pedal box.And it may be extremely difficult to run two external wastegates in that position as Sleepersy runs a twin scroll/single wastegate setup.

As for gains against cost,it's always going to be steep when you get above the 500bhp level but i am sponsered.

700 is a lot. Hope it all works out for you Peter.

BTW, what will you be using the car for? Track or road?

Losing the brake servo isn't such a big deal, though i haven't experienced SleeprSy's car even though i built it. In terms of work involved in that area, it's no big issue to do and certainly a lot less than going front mount turbo

Having said that, what you're saying about costs being steep above 500 is bang on the money, so it doesn't really matter what you do, it's going to cost a fortune anyway. The only time cost becomes an issue is when you start to regret going for the "next level". For me, i should have stopped at 500 back in 2005.. Going for more is where the regret came in but had to see it through. Once achieved, i lost interest in doing anymore with the car.

I wish you all the best in what you're aiming for Peter. I might have missed something somewhere but who's the sponsor and what do you get out of it?

Amen to that.

700rpm ? that is a fair bit, whats the diameter of your pipework compared to the diameter of the pipework on the other cars? and where you are "choking" down into your twinscroll, whats the reduction compared to other cars of similar build, I only ask because Im interested. I have no intentions of doing this its too extreme for me and the problems which you may encounter further down the line is not something my pocket could bridge, however if your sponsored thats a huge help.

The proof of the pudding will always be in the eating on a build like this, having learned the hard way, I now stick with what we know rather than what we need to find out.

true, let the tuners and people with deep pockets do the exploration, i`ll happily get by learning from their mistakes

makes sense really :)
