Rednosespeccltd Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 i wouls say no as well mate, i done the same thing when i got rid of my first scooby(WRX Bugeye) and got a 350z, really enjoyed that car and would prob get another if it suited me, I then got a Spec C and now have a Hawkeye STi( black one you have seen in the Well). It always pulls you back mate, i feel the urge now and then as well and have found myself drawn to Q7's at the moment but keep telling myself to stick tifght as i have been in this situation before. IMO. Mac
oobster Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I recently sold my scoob and I dont really miss it. I missed having a car, any car, for a while but I had the scoob for over 3 and a half years. I'd done all that I wanted to do to it but my situation is obviously different from yours stephen (married, kid, made redundant etc) so I bought myself a nice 57-plate Focus 2.0 TDCI Ghia. Leather, cruise control, tinted windows as standard, electric heated seats, reversing sensors, 17" alloys - nice n comfy. Cheap insurance, still got a bit of go about it but fairly anonymous. I'd love to come back to Subarus again in a few years once the wee yin is at school - my experience was a car that was very reliable but in the last couple of years the subaru name has been tarnished slightly by the 'chav' image + the new cars subaru are bringing out aren't as exciting as they used to be (IMO). So yes, a change is good.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I think what you need is a bigger turbo ! You've paid off the car and you'll get hee-haw for it especially either side of Christmas Modify it and keep it - you've already got the ECUtek license so buy a VF35 and let Andy wave his wand again..... I spent a few months Scoobless and it was rubbish - every time I passed one I had my window down hping to hear the rumble and get a sniff of rich exhaust ! I think once you've drive anything turbo'd then it's hard to go to Naturally Aspirated unless it's a beast like an RS4 or something. Let me remind you what you'll be missing from a sound perspective :- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JuCZMvMnyPw C'moan son - get a haud o' yersel - V-power is washers too
seafar99 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Yes, lets be brutally honest here, your going to get buttons in this current economic climate anyway, so why not buy something cheap and cheerful that will get you to and from work and turn the subaru into an ongoing project??? Thatway you can SORN the wrx and not have to pay to keep it on the road, and have a wee car to bugger about in!Callum W Got to agree with Wilky here, i've got a city-car that get's me to work and back....and blah blah journey's. It's the journey's in the subaru thereafter that make me realize what a cracking/special car it is, certainly not boring and one of the best bangs for your buck you'll get. Stephen........weddings don't have to cost the earth!

Stephen........weddings don't have to cost the earth! Have to agree here too Stephen, you've gone quite far already with the car and it owes you nothing which is not too far away fom what you'll get offered for it too. Bench it and get a cheap to buy/run everyday car and keep tweaking the WRX at your leisure. I have a small 1.6 HDI Citroen as my everyday car and it makes a lot of sense financially. Also gives you a new appreciation of the Scoob when you do drive it. Just my 2p worth mate, Kevan
fai17 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I have a boring remapped Passat that does the daily duties now... Just waiting to get the beast back and i can't wait.. Its like christmas again but it really is soon..lol

Just my 2p worth mate, Kevan have to agree big chap, keep the scooby as a toy and get a runaround.ive got a 328i bmw that i use for work and whenever the scoob does get used/abused its always a pleasure
RS Grant Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 have to agree big chap, keep the scooby as a toy and get a runaround.ive got a 328i bmw that i use for work and whenever the scoob does get used/abused its always a pleasure PMSL... a 2.8 6cyl petrol BMW is hardly a 'wee runaround' Jim. Cheers, Grant
billyboy Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Dont do it mate. I looked at some other cars before i got my 2008 STi.I considered a C class Merc with AMG suspension and brakes etc.Very nice it was too but i knew fine well after a few months i would want a scoob.
thefastone Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 PMSL... a 2.8 6cyl petrol BMW is hardly a 'wee runaround' Jim. Cheers, Grant Aye that's jim doing things in halves again then!!! See Stephen, we ALL agree, well except Oobster, but then he's just weirdy*, you should keep the car, theres no point in selling anyways for all you'll get... Hope this answers your question... * this may not be true** ** but then it might just be...
st3ph3n Posted November 28, 2008 Author Posted November 28, 2008 I'm still weighing it up and will do over the next month or so. I know I'd miss the noise etc. which is why I've said that it would be a complete downgrade rather than something with delusions of quickness.
J.C. Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 IF you can get a good price for it and IF the money is going towards a Hillclimb/Sprint project, get it sold. But you are probably best hanging on to it at the moment, it is a really bad time to sell a car, you virtually have to give them away.
scientific steve Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 PMSL... a 2.8 6cyl petrol BMW is hardly a 'wee runaround' Jim. Cheers, Grant I dont know Grant, I've a 528 sport for my runabout and also have a flat four as a toy, though it's not a scoob
iainc Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I spent a few months Scoobless and it was rubbish - every time I passed one I had my window down hping to hear the rumble and get a sniff of rich exhaust !I think once you've drive anything turbo'd then it's hard to go to Naturally Aspirated unless it's a beast like an RS4 or something. Aye... I went from a Scoob to a Cupra TDi, which was okay for a while... but always missed the scoob... decided I would do a "grown ups car" and got a 4.2 V8 S6 Avant... but even with 300bhp and a V8 under the bonnet it had nothing on a scoob... traded it for the 06 STi. Both cars had the same same amount of power but were VASTLY different cars. No question, I wouldn't be without a scoob now, even if it was the cheapest "crappiest" oldest one I could afford. Still got the Cupra TDi alongside the STi and it's a good combo IMO, Leon is cheap to tax, insure and run, STi... ummm... isn't, so between them we have the equivalent of two "normal" cars Would definitely say if you've done that much to the car you'd be daft to let it go for FA (which is probably all you'd get for it atm).
jimser Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 PMSL... a 2.8 6cyl petrol BMW is hardly a 'wee runaround' Jim. Cheers, Grant yea fair enough not a cheap(to run) car but in my defence i do need a car with a fairly large boot for my work tools etc and with it brings a bigger car with more weight so hence need a larger engine to keep it on the move lol.i also have a 318 is does that count as a runaround?

colzo Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I'm thinking down the same lines as yourself Stephen. I've owned Scoobs for 8 years and although they are special cars I'm just not getting the same buzz out of them now. I've just bought a bike (new and different buzz) with the plan in the future to downsize the car and up-size the bike. Its really hard to give up on Scoobs with the noise, handling etc. and they seem to get under your skin. All I can say is take your time to think about your decision and find another hobby to fill the void if you do part with the car.
scotsman Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Biggest mistake I made was selling my previous impreza - now back in one again for the last 3 years and would struggle to go into anything else - even though I was tempted with a TDI Audi TT a few months ago! lol Richard.
G.T. Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Hmm its a tough call big man, I like to frequently change my cars and im always thinking about changing the scoob but for some reason i just cant bring myself to do it this time. If you can afford it id probably go with the buy a cheap runaround and keep it option . I love getting back in the scoob after a few days of driving the wifes corsa makes you appreciate it so much more. If you do deciede to sell up theres one thing for sure you will really miss the car and the whole scooby scene, i know i did after i sold my 1st one.
thewelsho Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) I usually get fed up with cars really quickly. I bought a brand new MG ZR had it 18 months then got rid for a brand new Celica, the car of my dreams. Till 18 months later I got rid for the Scooby. Had my car now for 2 and a half years and have never thought about changing if for anyother car. That said, like you there have been times when I'm not as into it and the way of curing that for me, was to change the car: not to anther car but to add a mod or two. As well as the performance of the car and how it gets under the skin and all of that, the Subaru lends its self to well to adaptability - I'm keeping mines... FOREVER! Edited November 30, 2008 by TheWelsho

gus the bus Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 ....and i'm keeping mines ......for a very long time and I'll always have one or two
RS Grant Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 and I'll always have one or two lol.. I'll dip in and out of ownership from time to time, as I have been the past 5 or 6 years. Cheers, Grant

paul555sti Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 and I'll always have one or seven Edited for accuracy Well mines will be staying with me forever. Going to have a year of not spending any money on it next year . Then the year after i am going to try and get some serious power although not to the level of some of the cars on here.
