Saying Goodbye To My Hawkeye Sl Wagon

Recommended Posts

As above, getting shot of my Wagon having only had it some 5 months or so..........I said I would never let fuel prices and road tax affect my hobby but of late I am getting sick of it.

Running a 2.5 litre WRX :-

= £400 Road tax this year

= £415 in 2009

= £750 in 2010 :guinness:

The erse has also fallen out of the market for Scoobies, 4x4's and Jeeps etc so I decided to dump it and run

Traded for a 2.0 TDi A4 Avant with S-line body kit. Chip it and I'll get 180 bhp or so which is nae too shabby

Got a decent trade in so went for it.....

Incidentally 6 other Subaru garages were not even interested in buying it despite it having PPP and being mint with low miles. One garage offered £9000 for it ( foxtrot oscar)

My plan is now to swoop and buy a weekend track toy, likely in the form of an old Sti RA. Canny wait to finally have a thunderously loud and rapid lightweight weapon

Out of interest for yourselves I did some analysis of running costs :-

Audi Subaru

Insurance £227 £675

Road Tax £155 £400

Fuel a year £1300 £3200

Delta between them is £2600 a year which is £217 a month !! That does not include servicing. It was enough to make me decide after much swithering.

I can get some 650 - 700 miles to a tank if driving sensibly which for a Scooby owner is mind boggling.

I shall have a few items for sale so keep your eyes peeled for new ages goodies

Cheers folks

i believe the really high figure in 2010 is for first year of registration (brand new cars) existing cars and the 2nd year onwards will be at the 400 rate.

either way mate shame to see you sell the car. just get your self that track toy soon!!!

I understand your reasons for selling mate, and perhaps it is the most practical and sensible thing. However, that said, screw Darling and screw Brown. These two slime-****s will have to go a bit further than current attempts to take my car away.

According to the latest figures road tax should be around £450 in 2010 for a scoob, I lasted ten months with my Audi & it had to go cause it just aint a scooby :guinness:

I lasted about the same in the 4.2V8 Avant that I had... was just too nose heavy for my liking on back roads and I just never got on with the semi-auto box on it either, traded it for the 06 STi I have now and haven't looked back.

Showroom tax..... that is disgusting. The UK has gone to the dogs IMO, makes me really angry thinking about the state we're in and the fact that our tiny country is made to pay for pollution created by other countries in the world and we dont have the bollox to stand up and say enough is enough. I've not been around long, just 25 years, but in the past 6-7 years things have just started to get further and further out of control with no sign of stopping.

Sorry for the rant, but the showroom tax thing triggered it off there... :guinness:

Cal, the new car looks nice. Sure it'll go pretty well as standard but should be really brisk through the gears once you treat it to some Revo/Jabba/AmD love too. :)

Cheers,

Grant

Gus is right ( http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/) I misread the £750 bit but it still blows !

In my opinion a diesel burner and a track toy is the future :guinness:

My decision was also based on the fact that in the next month I was due to fork out :-

£400 or so for a service

£400 or so for 4 new tyres

£400 or so for road tax

£700 or so for insurance

= £1900 for a car that I am not really using as intended. Love the leather, heated seats, sun-roof and 310 ft lbs torque though but I barely stretch it legs on my 3 mile commute.

Since my 7 month old baby has arrived I ain't been at KH much either ( although I did make it the The Ring)

Wait a moment, lets wind the clock back 5 months. Isn't that just what I suggested at the time?

Really like your new motor Cal good choice :guinness: was going to buy one myself when I got shot of the scoob but opted for the Volvo V70 for the extra room for my kiddies.

Just think of all that extra pennies you can spend on Mrs Cal & Cal Jr now your running a proper daddy car lol.

Shame to see you go Cal, for a bit anyways, but I know exactly what you're saying. Considered it myself recently but it was actually the wife that said after the time/money (which is nothing compared to most on here) I'd spent on it to just hanging on to it and we'd look at selling her car after summer, she enjoys driving it luckily. If I have to go back to doing higher miles in the future I'll not have much choice but to sell up though.

Looked at that exact same spec Audi myself a while back, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Now those defi's, move the . back a little bit ??? Worth a try !

AMEN! (No disrespect to Audi owner/drivers)

No disrespect taken, but as I've got one of each I'm not particularly sensitive to your harsh criticism.

Cal, top tip from a time served owner: get it serviced at an independent. Labour rates at main dealers are marginally higher than normal garages, about double !!! I had to get a new clutch on mine a year ago. Clutch replacement at dealer was quoted at £750. Independent changed the clutch and flywheel for £750 - flywheel alone was around £400.

From the pic, it looks like an FWD, so have fun with the ESP . I'm sure the flashing yellow light on the dashboard will become a familiar friend as the torque spins the fronts on every fast exit !!!

Harsh criticism? Someone said "The Audi isn't a Scooby" and I agreed... how is that anywhere near criticism, let alone harsh?

Sorry mate, I see Amen and 'disrespect' in the same post and it brings up my own criticisms !!!

Help me, I'm hearing voices again

Nice move cal...shame you have to go for a short while but will no doubt return with a RA.

The best family car solution is a Family Deisel Estate or MPV plus a toy scooby for yourself.

Mod the toy and make it mad.

I agree. But what is with us Brits tho, we moan about it then do nothing. We all slate the French for going on strike for the least wee thing but you can bet your a*** that if fuel prices went the way they are here they'd have the whole country to a standstill. Then the government wouldn't be long and doing something about it.

I really think the only way to do something about spiraling fuel costs is if we as a whole nation stand up to that scumbag brown.

Well like Cal I have also binned high performance in favour of high MPG for a while. Have just bought this:-

media3.jpg

media2.jpg

although it is getting a cheeky wee remap before I collect it. 180bhp / 300+ lb/ft should suffice nicely with the 40+ mpg

Cal, I will wave if I see you :)

I too am getting mine remapped on Friday.............

Should see power go from 140 bhp to 190 bhp and more importantly 210 ft lbs torque to 310 !!

I'm am getting circa 550 -600 miles per tank which is a mix of motorway & urban

However, I am keeping a very close eye on Pistonheads / SIDC for WRX STi RA's :icon_pray:

Cheers

Nice. Who is doing the Map? Mines is at Star Performance.

What sort of MPG you getting just now?

Oh, and my speed kicks now come from this:-

Remap is by A4Audi in Clydebank. Went to school with the owner. Think the remap is provided by Celtic Tuning via OBD port.

Nae sure about the MPG - don't have the Audi DIS

All I know is that it toes the old Wagons erse by comparison !

That's a REAL nice choice of track weapon you have there :icon_pray:

Agreed.

And if every motorist in the country who objects to road tax pricing refused to pay, I'm pretty sure it would cause a bigger problem for the Government than they could cause for us. From a purely administrative POV, they can only pursue so many non-payments. Remember the poll tax?

We needs to start a militant internet movement here... :icon_pray:

Anyway - after this (and Iraq) they've lost my vote.

Unfortunately these actions acheive nothing, except to cause havoc for joe public. No goverment will back down to publc demand on gas guzzlers as they use that environment/save the plant p!sh. To be honest, no goverment will change this as its a easy tax disguised as a Green Tax!!

I agree with Cal though, thats why I did not buy a new subaru when I killed the last one. If you use it as your 1st choice car, then its just to damn expensive to run. Especially when everything starts braking with wear and tear as mine did. £400 clutch in mine 2 weeks before I crashed! Doh! I must have spent about 1-1.5k keeping mine on the road last year just on parts and services. Since I got the trusty focus I have been saving a fortune.
