As frustrating and annoying the new road tax is, I wouldn't choose that route my friend. Mon the Newages!
G.Mac Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I thought it was midnight tonight it was changing, or was it midnight last night, I cant remember, I wonder how much it is to ship a scooby to Canada or new Zealand? Graeme
RS Grant Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) Oh bugger, thought I had a bit of time to mull that one over.. my renewal notice says 165 for 6 months or 300 for 12 months..... thought I'd beaten the system!! Robbing baaaaaaaastards!! Cheers, Grant Edited March 16, 2008 by RS Grant
mctwistuk Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 mine said the same but there is small print on it.
Jimmy321 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Mine says £300 which i need to buy this month, so it's £400. The notice said i could not buy on-line till the 15th so i thought i'd leave it till Monday.

Don't know if I've been jammy and slipped thru the net(unlikely I'd have thought) but there you go 300 it is.
garytitley Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 makes my blood boil how if the government wants extra money for anything its effective straight away but if the public is due any money back it takes at least twelve months the robbing c**ts.like ive said before the sooner there is a general election the better then we can get rid of this joke of a so called government.
C_WRX Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Still £210 on Saturday for me and my wee newage WRX. That's it for another year...perhaps they'll actually make the roads round here useable - not holding my breath over that one !

Don't think the next gevernment will be any better mate, they are all the same - a shower of useless cr4p. Cameron is supposed to be touting an even harder line on gas guzzlers - so who knows, the little weed might make us pay even more... perish the thought.
scientific steve Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 dont know if it will make you guys feel any better on a bmw forum someone posted up saying that on saturday over 70 M3's were posted up for sale on pistonheads thats 70 !!!!!!!!! seems that some other folk have had enough too, so if your after a bmw now would be a good time to buy one

Not that i intend to sell.
jamesm Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Didn't realise until today that the new bands will affect all post 2001 cars. I will be paying £415 on my 2002 Bugeye in 2009 and £430 in 2010. Better get saving!
emoe Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 So this isnt affecting the classics then? Mine is due in May.
thefastone Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Dont know, As I said in another thread, i paid mines online the other week, and I was only £180 lighter for the year!... You can have your newages... If you want to pay for it, thats your bag...
scouk Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 (edited) I too only relised the dramatic change after looking at it in detail! Classics shoudl be fine.... It's only for cars registered after 1st March 2001 I.e.. Pretty much every Newage (unless they were snuck in before hand...) Sadly mine was registered 1St april 01! I can see a big shift to classics in the next couple of years! Edited March 17, 2008 by ScoUK

THANK GOD FOR THAT!!!! i just got my scoob and was thinking id have to chop it in for an E reg fiesta 1.0 Why in gods name are we standing for this crap??? We need to revolt!
jamesm Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 emoe said: Why in gods name are we standing for this crap??? We need to revolt! Well, we can all vote them out at the next election. But will the alternative give us anything different? Can't see it to be honest. The Greenies have won. Interestingly enough, I was reading an article in the Sunday Times at the weekend in which they took a BMW 520D and a Prius from London to Geneva (545 miles). The Prius averaged 48.1mpg and the Beemer 50.3mpg. And the Government want us all to drive about in Prius's??

scouk Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 emoe said: Why in gods name are we standing for this crap??? We need to revolt! I tend to agree.. but it's hard times from here on in... Any future government are unlikely to reduce it! maybe put it on hold.. But it's unlikely to go down without serious intervention! It's gonne be one hell of a shock to the system! Road tax nearly doubling in a year for an early newage! WTF's that all about! Yeouch! big time!!!

euan_r Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 folk we classics shouldnt feel so smug just now i rekon. they have increased it for post 2001 cars so whats to stop them changing the cut off dates in the future. just more tax raising nothing green about it. scarey to work out how much we now pay when all the various forms of tax are added together.
thewelsho Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 euan_r said: just more tax raising nothing green about it. That is correct. There is nothing green about this, it is nothing more than a stealth tax. If the governement were really serious about being "green" they would tax cars that do heavier mileage, not bigger cars that do less milage and therefore have less emmissions. Nothing more than daylight robbery.

Nothing more than daylight robbery. This is the thing that get's me... To be sensible let's look at the variosu facts... Vehicles that are gass guzzling high pollutants use more fuel, yeah! smaller cars use less fuel and pollute less yeah! Right, governments has been talkign about pay-as-your-drive for years and will no doubt soon bring it in! But we already have a pay as you drive system it's called V-power.. We have to pay to keep the cars running! Pay as you drive is a joke! and only an excuse! I know there are a lot of poople who share this thought and I'd easy be willing to sign a petition if I thought it'd do any good, but all they need to do is add add extra tax to to fuel and scrap roax tax and g/km metering! that way you get more money from gas guzzling vehicles and peopel pay more, the more miles they drive! Sure it'd mean higher fuel prices but it's more fair system! IMHO! Just goes to show the the govt liek to sneak in extra bits everywhere they can! Now why do I have to steer aroudnd about 15-20 pot-holes on my way to work every morning!!!! I'd rather pay a added tax that will sort out the roads than pay silyl taxes that have lead to crap roads and a possible huge repair bill for me if I hit one of the soddin things!
