New Gtr..........interesting Reading!

25 September '07:

"The Nissan GT-R development team has made another run at the Nürburgring record books this morning--and the Porsche 911 Turbo is no longer its target. Sources intimately familiar with Nissan's latest test sessions inform us that the group is now gunning to beat the Porsche Carrera GT--a remarkably lofty goal considering that that Walter Röhrl reportedly piloted a Carrera GT around the 'Ring in 7 minutes 28 seconds. Another Carrera GT, driven by Horst von Saurma, managed a lap time of 7:32.

Our sources tell us that, thus far, the Nissan has fallen short of the Carrera GT's record-time, but not by much. Our mole tells us that some wet sections of the track slowed them down, and that with optimum track conditions, some heroic driving could still reel in the Porsche Supercar. Nissan reps would not divulge any specific lap times, but they hinted that something under 7:35 may have been achieved. Regardless, it's clear that Nissan's goal of overtaking the 911 Turbo has been achieved in a big way. Stopwatch drama aside, Nissan also gave us some new eye-candy by removing most of the camouflage that has been a staple of GT-R sightings for more than a year now. Although not in showroom shape, the latest GT-R test cars give us our clearest look yet at the prototype's front bumper and headlights, and the GT-R badge is now prominently displayed in the grille-opening, and on the trunk lid. We also managed a pretty revealing interior shot as one GT-R prepared to launch. The rear vinyl camouflage has also been removed, and now only flat-black paint remains to obscure the GT-R's true styling. This is as close as we're likely to get to an undisguised car until the car's Tokyo Show debut.

In their most recent 'Ring runs, Nissan rented the track early Monday morning, and had three GT-R prototypes--spaced one-minute apart--all taking their best shots. One of the GT-Rs was reportedly driven by Horst von Saurma--the same 'Ring specialist that drove the Carrera GT to a 7:32 lap time. Another driver was said to be a Japanese driver named Shimizu--possibly well-known racer Kazuo Shimizu. The third GT-R pilot went un-named.

:)

Andy, if you buy this car I think both myself and the squiggle would come round your house and lick it clean for you.

Amen to that brother

The amount of carbon fibre on that thing is mental and to go gunning for the Carrera GT is something special

Now i understand your desire to attend the Tokyo Motor Show in a couple of weeks time, i expect a full show report , plenty of pictures of scantily clad Asian burds spraled over some hot Jap metal and a bag full of STI goodies sent back to Parrot Central via DHL

Sex Wee!!!

Engine Code: VR38

Peak Power: 480ps/6,800rpm

Peak Torque: 58.0kgm/1,700 - 5,600rpm

Details: The engine powering the new GT-R will be extremely lightweight compared to engines of similar capacity and complexity. Titanium intake valves and magnesium alloy exhaust valves will be used as well as a version of the new VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technology as used in the V36 Skyline Coupe. Red line is from 7,600rpm, with a 7,800rpm rev limit. Even after peak power has been achieved at 6,800rpm, 90% of maximum power will still be available from 6,800 - 7,500rpm with the power curve staying virtually flat from 6,800rpm to red line. The secret to the GT-R’s speed is in it’s ability to obtain peak torque at such low revs, as well as a very usable spread of power right across the rev range. There is even mention of the engine being designed for a maximum power output of 600ps, but being detuned to 480ps for production.

The engine powering the 2008 GT-R is not part of the VQ family… Holiday Auto have reportedly been told that the engine appearing in the new GT-R has a ‘VR’ designation, leading them to believe that it has a strong connection to the VRH35L from the Nissan R390 that contested the Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race!

Well here are some "official" pics.

I got a mag today here in Tokyo and from what i was told by my interpreter some of the specs are -

6 colour choices (red, black, white, silver, grey and a special silver)

magnesium oil pan

magnesium pulleys

magnesium drive chain

carbon prop shaft

carbon spoiler

carbon bonnet

aluminium roof

oil cooler

6 pot front, 4 pot rear Brembos

DSG gearbox (twin clutch like the new Evo X)

Power Specs -

480 bhp / 425lb/ft

480ps @ 6800rpm

59.0kg/m 1700 / 5200 rpm

redline between 7000 - 8000rpm. No power tail off after 6800rpm. So you basically have max power all the way to redline.

0-60 in 3.7 secs with a theoretical top speed in excess of 190mph.

Recipe: Madness.

Instructions: Take one ex-Le mans prototype engine, chop off 2 cylinders, whack on a set of tricked out heads with clever valves and strap two turbos to this. To the end of said engine attach a double clutch gearbox and attach the whole thing to the finest 4wd system you can get your hands on.

Bake in a coupé body shell over night at gas mark 5.

Serve with a slice of the nurburgring and wash it down with a cool glass of V-Power.

Yummy.

er...why is every manufacturer making ugly cars just now? impreza, evo etc

i think that GT-R looks pretty awful, nowhere near as purposeful as a R32/33, just a big lump.

Public demand for more refined vehicles could be the answer!

So what car in your opinion does not look awful?.............ferrari, Lambo, bugatti, Aston? ........something out of most peoples budgets. The R32 had alot of presence, the R33 i think is pretty naff, R34 was a big lump but still had something about it..............this new GTR???........i think looks rather grown up and sleek compared to it's brothers and at just over 1500kg would not class it so much as a "big lump", not a hell of alot more heavier than a "big lump"STI. :crying:

I do agree with the STI and EVO statement although the Evo would be my choice if i had to own either. :)

The new GTR is absolutely stunning !!! Since i saw the 1st spy shots of the prototype ages ago i thought Nissan had winner. It's the only new car coming out that i would have no 2nd thought selling the WR1 for & thats saying something as have always said i wouldn't ever sell the 1 (not that its gonna matter as i can't afford a new GTR anyway lol)

Subaru have lost the plot with the new Impreza Mitsibushi have done the same with the Evo although i probably would pick it over the scoob(AAAHHH wash my mouth out with soap for saying such a thing) but Nissan have taken things up a level with this car.

Andy your a lucky chap if your after one of these, best of luck trying to get a order placed. Might have to lock yourself in the show car on the stand at the show & refuse to come out till they take your order lol

Sorry but stinkin. 350Z gave us a good idea of how the dash would be and it's plastickier than Mr. Plastics pla-stick. And whats the asking price? 50k? Na, i'll have a secondhand 911 turbo.

Would have looked good, if they had stuck with the prototype front end, but it falls a long way short of the of the 34, for me.

New Scoob is ugly too, but at least we expected that.
