Announcement

The McRae family have decided on the following arrangements.

Service of Celebration

Arrangements have now been put in place regarding the Service of Celebration for the lives of Colin and Johnny.

Location: High Street, Lanark.

Date: Sunday 30th September 2007.

Time: 4 pm.

The Service will be relayed onto big screens strategically situated on the High Street in Lanark, which will be closed to traffic for the duration. Please do not try to access St. Nicholas Church as this has been reserved for family, friends and associates only. Please also note that there will be a normal Sunday Service in the Church from 11am until Noon and we ask that you do not gather in this vicinity until after this time.

Please note that Strathclyde Police have asked us to inform all those attending that the sole designated car parking facility will be based at the Lanark Agricultural Centre, Hyndford Road, Lanark, ML11 9AX. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available at the Agricultural Centre. There will be diversions and road closures in operation and therefore the car parks can only be accessed by the following routes.

From the NORTH.

M74 southbound to Junction 11 / B7078 southbound past Happendon Services to turn left at the round-about joining the A70 northbound / continue on this road until Hyndford Bridge and turn left towards Lanark on the A73 and follow the signs to the Car Parks and park as directed by the Stewards.

From the SOUTH.

M74 northbound to Junction 13 / Abington / A702 northbound / A73 northbound to Hyndford Bridge and turn right towards Lanark on the A73 and follow the signs to the Car Parks and park as directed by the Stewards.

There will be a courtesy shuttle bus service laid on to transport people from the Agricultural Centre to the vicinity of the High Street.

In view of the numbers expected to attend, The Police have emphasised that people leave must leave PLENTY of time to ensure that that they can arrive and access the High Street before the commencement of the Service

Lanark Auction Market is a recent built facilty with CCTV and the such like all about the place

On a scale of 1 to 100, i would give it a 94. With 1 being keys in the ignition in Easterhouse and 100 being engine running on the Isle of Barra. Hope this allays your fears about security and parking.

All areas to assemble at Happendon services (between J11 + J12 M74) from 13:00 .

We will move off at 14:00 prompt and procede en masse to Lanark auction market .

The cars will all be parked there and shuttle busses will be provided to take everyone to Lanark town centre.

The town centre will be closed off and big screens will be in place to show the service at 16:00.

Police are going to contact me later in the week but we/they do not expect any changes to the above (obviously anything I hear from them will be posted here)

Would everyone coming please ensure that your route will avoid Lanark town centre .

Hi CHAE,

When I travelled to Lanark on the 16th it took me about 2 and a half hours due to traffic, accidents and lack of local knowledge. I'm reckoning on leaving 3 hours before kick-off which brings us to 11:00 with the plan to meet at Happendon. Bit earlier than I'd hoped for, but it can take a good 20+ minutes just to get around Dundee at the moment!

I'm only home for the night, so I'll check back Fri/Sat to see if that suits you (anyone else joining us?) and then post a phone number or something.

Just so you know, I'll be taking it pretty easy on the motorways.

I am in the area and will attend this event. Its all very tragic. I grew up just along the road from Lanark and although I didn't know Colin I always watched his racing exploits and he will be sadly missed. My condolences go to the Mcrae family and also to the families of the others killed in the accident.

The services are located on the Southbound side but can be accessed from both north and southbound

There you go guys. If you're coming from the north you come off at 11, straight over the first roundabout, then services are on your right. Take the second entrance you'll see - the first is no entry. If you're coming from the south come off at 12, right at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, under the motorway, left at the next one and the services are on your left just up the road. Bobs your uncle.
