mrbadger Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I'm sorry I didn't make it along today. He has influenced and inspired many - including myself. Motorbike legend Valentino Rossi, who dedicated his win in Sunday's Portuguese MotoGP to McRae in his tribute said - "He was one of my idols when I was young. He was the Kevin Schwarz (US Grand Prix rider of 1990s) of motor rallies," said the Italian. My thoughts and prayers are with the McRae family at this time.

the squiggle Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 First off a massive heartfelt thank you to every single one of who turned up today. 23 cars at only 12 hrs notice is a statement of ho much this guy affected each of us. The std of driving was impecable and we were a credit to our marque........................THANK YOU. The contingency plan was put into place where we parked the cars in the new housing estate and walked round the corner, we were so quiet not one resident bothered because i dont think they evn heard us. Of all the people present with University degree's and the such like they wanted a word with me. I humbly apologise to the viewers of BBC News 24 that may have heard a small sweary word that ryhmes with bucking. Never really done live TV before and if i knew i was gonna be live i would have at least removed combed my hair and minded my F's and C's. I also apoligise to the wider Subaru community for being the lead car on TV, i know the car is as ugly as sin but i knew where we were going and i did not expect there to be camera's there. I know you must have been both cringing and beaming with pride at the same time and if i had known it was going to be on national tele then i would have borrowed Imy's V-Limited. Plans are hatching for a similer RBRelay style convoy between Lanark and Banbury with a stop in Keilder and possibly the racecourse where he collected the trophy in 95 Thank you God bless you Colin

nanaki Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 From the Daily Record website. Yesterday, a steady stream of fans left tributes at theMcRae home near Lanark. Among them was a Saltire left by members of the Subura Impreza Drivers' Club, with the message: "Cruelly taken from us in such a heartbreaking way. May you enjoy going 'flat out' in God's special stage."
johns Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 A huge word of thanks from me for all involved with this very moving tribute that has touched many people across the world. As much as I would have loved to be there, it simply wasn't possible. John

5cooby Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 hi all I have been an almost silent member (since i don't have an Impreza yet) but I have the next best thing a Legacy. Although a little late my girlfriend and I turned up with our own little tribute. We have all lost a friend, and a hero. Gone are the 2 people who made Subaru and gave it an iconic image, McRae and Burns RIP Colin, Johnny and their friends
grant@AWD Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Hi All Well done, You done us proud (GRANT AND TEAM) I just sat at home all day on sunday num ... I'm really lost for words this is one off the worst days in motorsport history, Colin was a legend to us all..
nanaki Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 From The Scotsman And as the rain bore down over Lanark, the tributes began to come in. A convoy of 12 Subaru Impreza drivers arrived to create a makeshift memorial to McRae. The respect was clear. It was with Subaru that McRae claimed the world rally championship 12 years ago, becoming the first British driver to do so.The Subaru memorial included a hand-written plaque that read: "Cruelly taken from us in such a heart-breaking way. May you enjoy going 'flat out' in God's special stage. You will always be in our hearts, from your fans and supporters at the Scottish Scoobies and Subaru Impreza Drivers Club."
st3ph3n Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 From The Scotsman The BBC Articles now feature a link to the club too. Such a surreal experience seeing myself on the telly yesterday and indeed today too. Still, I think the press coverage has shown that it was a really nice gesture that we did. Well done again Grant. For all your protestations about your abilities in front of the Camera I personally could not think of a better person to talk about the man than yourself. Like Imy, when you were asked what he meant to you I had to stop myself from having a good wee chuckle, but once you got into full flow I doubt there was a dry eye in the house.
andy Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Spoke to Grant earlier and he was concerned that he'd heard some of the stuff we left had gone. If you read the latest on the BBC Website the photo of Jimmy at the top shows tributes have been moved closer to the house.
