  1. I wouldnt mind doing that, sounds like a fun weekend, alas I have no #001 car in any of the series they are going to show on the sunday, just a rugged little runaround, but the driving sounds very good. I'll have to charm the Boss into a weekend pass for that one and find someone who may want to share a tent, i binned my 6 man tent a few years ago as it was never used, the wife never liked camping as she had nowhere to place her hairdyer
  2. Nice bit of work there Stu, it looks way more complicated an install on mine. I went to Maplins and picked up some stick on rubber feet (for pc's) to sit on the bottom of the ballast units to stop them rattling about in the engine bay, £2 for a set of four, so I bought 2 sets, cheap as chips. Not had a chance today to do any work on the lights due me spending pretty much the whole day removing some very old bath and basin taps, whilst getting myself into small spaces trying to remove the pipes, lots of foul language was to be heard Fitted the replacements bought today and spent the rest of the night until 8pm resolving leaks, I'll never make a professional plumber Tomorrows plan is to fit my A pillar triple gauge pod ans wiring in 3 gauges with a ready made loom, fingers crossed they go in without shorting the battery I got my 36-LED brake/tail lights very quickly from Autobulbsdirect after sending the other ones back and doing a direct swap for some red ones with more led's. The problem i have now is that although the tail light is a little brighter with a deeper red colour, the brake lights brightness is only a little brighter than the tail light and I'm a bit concerned that there may not be enough of a lighting difference to let cars in my rear know that I am braking...the original bulbs were dimmer as a rear light but the brake light was dazzling so I may have to return these again The only saving grace is that the car has a high level brake light too so this may be enough of an indicator to show the car brakes are in use to other drivers??? These are the wee blighters, do they stay or do they go now ?
  3. Hi Stu, I spoke to the nice lady at Autobulbs and she can do s straight swap for another set of led bulbs with more led's and in red too, that should stop the dull pinky glow I have been looking for space to locate the ballasts and I'm going to mount them flat right behind the lights as there's a nice wee spot just begging to be filled. I'll use the brackets they came with to secure the bracket to the chassis with a couple of self tappers. I'll need to put small rubber stick on bumpers to the bottom of the ballasts so they wont sit in any water (bonnet covers leak right behind the lights ) The rest of the install should be a doddle (famous last words) I have started doing a write up and started taking some piccies of the kit, loom and connectors to show whats involved - but my pics came out crap, not being a photographist (is that a word?) I'll have to do a few more. Whilst I'm doing that Ive been making up wiring looms so that I can fit in a voltage and exhaust temp gauge to a new A pillar pod, move the boost gauge so that I can see it properly in this new pillar pod and in-place where the boost gauge was, to fit a water temp gauge. Should have some pics of the water sensor install and the exhaust temp gauge install sometime soon, wife and time permitting If you get stuck with the lights gimme a shout, we can electrocute each other with 20kv off the balasts
  4. Blimey Stu you have been busy with the plastic, even better with a discount too I went to fit my rear led lights today to find they wouldn't fit into the rear cluster. The rear cluster has a plastic outer that firms the outer shell and a thin metal inner/reflector....so after a bit of filing the bulb slotted in nicely. After turning on to check the light levels the new bulb seemed a lot dimmer and also a pinky colour too, not safe to use on the roads Having checked for other bulbs on the site it mentions to choose red led's as the white ones look pink behind the red cluster diffuser and red bulbs appear a more normal colour..grrr I'll have to send these back and ask for bulbs that are brighter and will give off a more red colour, bummer, at least I have my HID's to play with tho' I'll have a stab on sunday, going shopping on saturday, and take some snaps and put pen to paper
  5. I was fed up with having to replace the rear driving/brake lights every other month or so. I'm not sure if the saloons suffer the same issue but the bulbs seem to fracture when the wagon tailgate is shut so either you lose a driving light or a brakelight, major pain in the derrier I went back to Auto Bulbs Direct again for some LED based bulbs and found a pair that were a direct fit for my wagon. Hopefully these are going to be shock proof, for £!6 a pair I sure hope so, but if they last a year I'll get my money back. Not sure how much, if at all, brighter they will be but as long as they dont break I'll be a happy bunny Whilst I was looking at lights I happened to stumble upon the Demon Tweeks site and found myself looking at HID 8000k replacement lights with associated ballast. My hand fell upon the buy now button yesterday in the afternoon whilst taking a work break They turned up this morning to my surprise so I'll be fitting them at the weekend, I was wondering if it would be worth doing a write up on installation etc? I've seen a few vids on youtoob so there's info there on what to do, but if you think it would help I'll do a wee write up on it? Cheers, Col
  6. Waiting for some non wet weather to fit some HID lights and a few more gauges in a triple A pillar pod...

  7. Aye Merry Christmas to all, we had a lil' too much to eat, it's only Boxing day and I could quite easily not eat for a week Still, I have the chance to fit a few more gauges in the car in the freezing cold, that will stop me thinking about feeling full - I must clean the car, it's now a brown colour, dappled with blue
  8. Any more and we'll be awash with cars
  9. Best to keep a 'stiff' upper lip Stu It does make me rethink about 'Boil in the bag' meals from supermarkets now though, last one I had, had a bone it it
  10. Thanks muchly for the offer mate, if the device doesnt turn up today I may come see you Cheers, Col
  11. LOL she did mention you and something about black leather and belts, I thought I walked into an adult shop Mark found that the ecu for the alarm system had blown up and as it immobilies the fule pump supplpy when armed, is proboably the reason for no fuel delivery. New part coming tomorrow so I should know then, hopefully nothing else has gone...good news is that these Sigma alarms were known to blow a few years ago so this has lasted since 2001, which isnt bad considering the job it does.
  12. Aye these guys are great, dont tell Fiona but i had to rip out the front seat to get in it to drive
  13. Hello mate, yes I got one of those wee Yaris's, great little car and fun to drive although I think Fiona is a little protective, i was offered violence should anything happen to her precious car As always the SIDC discount comes in to play, who says the price of the SIDC membership isnt worth it? They obviously never have things go wrong with their cars, even if certain people class my aged car as 'classic' or 'antique'
  14. Aye welcome back, nice looking car too I might add
  15. Popped into Swindon around 2pm to get a bit of perspex for a project for the car, funnily enough. The car showed no symptoms of illness or fatigue (unlike me) so when I came to leave, the car turned over but spluttered and stopped after a few engine rotations... After several more attempts the engine stopped rotating altogether, the starter motor was firing just fine but it seemed no fuel was getting through, now thinking about it the may have been no spark from the ECU... I phoned Fiona at CS to ask If the AA could take the car there, which the happily the answer was yes so I phoned the AA to find out I had no cover to get me home, only to fix at the road side and if not fixed, then to be towed to the nearest kwikfit mob.... Not wanting to trust my 'unique and aged' car to just anyone, I phoned Fiona again to explain the situation. A recovery truck was organised within 5 minutes of placing that call to CS, so the AA call was canceled and the car placed on the back of the truck to sadly make its way back to Hailey, arriving at 7pm where a hire car was waiting to get me home and also to ferry me to work. I can't say enough good things about the guys and girl at CS, totally outstanding support and help, thankyou guys Now I'm hoping all I have is a broken Walbro fuel pump..
  16. I concur Sir
  17. Hehe, yeah feel free to use it in every day language, however royalty fees may be due
  18. Hi Maxy, was that the tube that feeds the vacuum to the gauge itself? Is the DV a recirc type, if the vacuum line is leaking it may not enough to open the DV and release excess boost pressure? Do you see the gauge showing indicated built boost as normal and then release as normal? When it releases do you hear the pressure release? As smallcatalunya says maybe its iced up with frozen moisture in the DV? Have you tried pushing on the spring to force it to open and free up any blockage? Is the new vacuum line caught/jammed anywhere? What sort is it ie rubber or silicone hose? Sorry the ammount of questions, I'm a nosey bastage Cheers, Col
  19. Yeah sounds very familiar, i had the same one minute your driving along, only the faint farty noise and then full on Massey Ferguson tractor impersonator, with pretty much huge loss of power...
  20. Sheeit that aint good mate, I had that problem when I used the gaskets provided with my stainless headers. The gasket was so weak that it blew a hole and I had to replace the lot just to stop it happening the remaining ones. OEM subaru gaskets have been on since and never faltered once. I'm hoping this is the same for you, bit of a pain in the derrier but an easy fix....the exhaust should be able to handle the extremes of temperatures I would have thought. Cheers, Col
  21. Ah few just a scrape, shud be easy enough to polish out? As for the HP i reckon a few more horses and ponies on top of that if my raised exhasut note is anything to go by, at 'higher' speeds shall we say
  22. ...and quite a few Scotsmen down here too
  23. Oh feck not good mate, I hope its not a serious ding?
  24. Yeah I find spell checking tools very good for getting rid of bugs in text
