  2. Thanks Stu the front of the car wasn't at its cleanest. I was speaking to one of the other members tonight and sate down and wrote what I've done under the 'hood' and it was quite surprising, it's funny how so much is forgotten that has been done without realising it. Still there's always more work to do under there Hmm this snorkel, is it going to be an externally visible one cos you could make your own and save some cash Problem is great looking ones cost a bit of cash.. Youre not thinking of doing this are you .. wet feet... You could use one of these instead, is this the end result your after?
  3. They'll get the boys round...
  4. I reckon you need to speak to those securutee peeples, theres some bad uns around these parts pardner
  5. This heat over the weekend we've just had opened my eyes to under bonnnet temps and possible damage it can do. My engine bay isn't what you would call original anymore, there's bit missing, bits added, you get my drift I made a temporary air filter heat shield ages ago, being a temporary fix its been there for ages now. At the end of last week I did some work to start to finish off the project and so Friday night was Blue Peter night, I made a few changes and so Saturday morning, and with the missus waiting to go shopping, I refitted the shield to find it was 1/2inch to big and the bonnet wouldn't shut, who'd ever complain an extra 1/2 inch was too much I took out the shield and then drove the car bareback, with the engine bay pushing hot air right into the air filter Even though the cold air feed was putting in oodles of cold air when cruising, any slower than 15mph then the intake temps at the filter shot up from 12/13 (ambient air) to around 60 degrees C within a minute of slowing down and being stationary in queues etc. The temp sensor I have (and havent we all ) sits right where the air filter takes its cold air feed from and so measures what the filter gets from the road. I was shocked at the rate of climb of temps to hit the filter in an unprotected engine bay. I've seen many a scooby engine bay with bigass KN type filters and no shielding or cold air feed to speak of. I wouldn't like to think of whats going on inside the engine as it gets this hot air sucked in. What I need is a knocklink/detector to show what levels of knock are happening with these temps being so high - thats a project for another day Anyhoo I made some changes and part of the shield is now back inplace and temps stay cool (and get cooler as you drive faster) and the rate of change is now far slower, but not perfect - still more to do to finish it off yet I have a wee linkie below if you want to see some unadulterated dirty engine bay p0rn http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc390/vimmeh/Air%20Intake%20Panel/ Cheers, Col

  9. Lovin that mod Stu, I can see a cult following of other blobmobiles
  10. Ah yeah, put it that way, but then I am slightly biased to my wee motor Aren't we all though, or we wouldn't be there showing off the cars in all their shining glory (more yours than mine )
  11. Yeah all the scoobs there looked great, it was good to see a range of differing ages and types but its hard to choose one.
  12. Yeah Happy Birthday Matty, I have a feeling of deja va here
  13. Thanks Lewis, isnt that weird now that I put the extra black flaps on too the car in stayng far cleaner for longer
  14. Blimey that was not very nice of him, you need to speak to the Subarfedz
  15. Ooragh nice one Stu, many thanks matey lots of food for thought there
  16. Hi Guys, just a wee post, I finally got around to stop fiddling with my flaps and fitted them I was thinking about some decals for the car, but wanted them to be understated as I dont think bright yellow would suit it I was thinking of a big ass Subaru swoosh in a dark grey kinda colour, something like the colour of the weels (minus the dirt) and was after your opinions on it? I know it's not a saloon and being a 'family estate' the rally style decals may look daft but I've seen a few dark green wagons with black decals that look darn tasty. I was also wondering if we had any budding artists and photoshop supremos who could maybe superimpose a swoosh on to the side as a preview I got my flaps from LewisScoob ages ago and gave them a lick of paint and lacquer but had to make some homebrew rubber flaps to protect the nice n shiny new blue ones, it's a bit mad to want to have clean flaps I know, but they're hard to get hold of nowadays.
  17. It was great to meet you guys and was a great day out too, I had a pink t-shirt which masked the fact that I didnt notice how pink my face was with sunburn during the day...I look like a lobster lol. I'll try and get to Japfest with sun lotion and my favourite desert camo floppy hat
  18. My MY98 UK Turbo gets between 28 to 30Mpg on the way to work, getting stuck in the school run traffic, around 300 miles a week. It has a few mods done to it, probably get less mpg on 'less busy back roads' but never calculated it. The cars done a good bit of mileage, but still gets a good return on the go faster juice
  19. Hello mate, have a look at this post it has a link to a thread that Granby did on Scoobynet. I want to do this on mine, time permitting. Hope this helps Found this link on scoobymods too..
  20. Yup I've been drinking the Vpower stuff since it came out, Optimax too as it was then, however I use it inmy car too Lewis you sound like you're drinking it along with the scoob
  21. Yes mate, so much for a lie in you coming along too?
  22. Put me down for a ticket please Stu, I missed last years event, this one sounds great
  23. Nicely done Stu its good to know they didnt have an issue with your lights, fingers crossed mine will pass in the same way in October
  24. Thanks Stu, it's great to know the wee car runs ok . Having driven the car so long you get accustomed to its ways. Having someone elses perspective is a huge help, I did think the car was stuffed over the weekend after putting the fuel treatment in it.. I was looking to start weighing up 2l and 2.5l shortblocks and prices, no need now (for the moment at least)
  25. Yes mate anytime , although I couldn't be in the passenger seat tho', it would have to be a solo run as my lightweight 16 stone mass might slow the car down a wee bitty I gave the car a wee blast on the way to work this morning and the car seems back to normal again, must have been another half tank of fuel that 'fixed' the mysterious 'slow' issue, strange
