  4. Not sure if this helps, or I'm probably thinking of something else, but I have both a Forge twin piston and an old Blitz single piston DV and both have adjustable springs. At the minute when I lift off the loud pedal and when using either DV I get a slight chatter from the turbo, where it is stalling, then after a short delay the DV opens and off goes the whoosh. As i understand it, the vaccum/boost pressure on the spring holding the DV piston closed is the same when the throttle body is open. When the TB is closed there is now vacuum pressure behind the closed TB and this vacuum goes via the small piping to the spring held piston in the DV to start pulling on the spring/piston to help open it. As the boost pressure on the opposite side of the TB still exists, this then pushes on the piston to open it fully and divert the air away to atmosphere or recirculate it. As I see it the chatter I am hearing is where the spring is set too high/stiff and there is a delay whilst the boost pressure pushes on this until it finally gives in and opens. To fix this the spring tension has to be reduced or a less stiff spring put in place. However if you go too far and put too weak a spring in you will get constant boost leak as the boost pressure can force the DV piston to open, twin piston DV's do away with this problem. The noise of the chatter is quiet loud as I have a home brew air intake thingy and the noise of the air hitting the turbo blades echoes back along to the air filter, so enclosed systems may muffle this noise due to them being sealed off within the car. I don't think too much 'chatter' is good as this does push back against the turbo could stop it rotating massively leaving you to wait a while for boost to come back as it spools back up. if the DV was blocked off altogether then all this pressure being forced background the car could lead to early turbo failure and possible consequences of the turbo breaking and parts getting sucked into the block, but I'm no expert so don't take this as gospel I reckon the best way to get some chatter type noise out of thecar would be to have some open filter within he car so that the noise has an open exit path that can be heard or as has been said in the wing. After that then its a matter of adjusting springs or spring tension depending on the DV type. Anyhoo just my tuppence worth Cheers, Col

  7. Hi guys and girls, just a quick one. If you're after a bit of the good stuff the Shell garage by the Peartree park and ride in Oxford still has some left. The guy wouldn't say how much and he's not too sure when the next lot comes in, but while he has some it might be worth popping in for a fill up before that goes too. The Shell garage in Fairford/Lechlade has run out and not too sure when it's coming in, the same can be said for Highworth too. The Shell garage on the A34, just down from the M40 junction has none either. Cheers, Col

I have a second hand intake manifold (with throttle body/iacv/pcv valve still attached) to clean up/paint and rip apart to work on a parallel fuel rail mod as well as get ready to fit a set of Carl Davey manifld spacers. Possibly to look at a port n'polish of the manifold too, time and wife permitting...

  12. Yes nice and shiny in the box but not for long I suspect vey soon I'll never see it again and it will be all black and oily I'll have to take it out for a wee clean every few months
  13. and took hold of Toybaru Subayota (Yaris) from Cotswolds The wee car is in for yet another service, this one being a tad late due to work pressures. Getting all the fluids done, new cambelt and tensioner, replacing the handbrake shoes with the original set doing 238k so far so time for a change The sump pan has a rusty hole (no jokes please)about to go pop so a newish replacement sump pan is being fixed so that it runs two sump plug holes, one for my oil temp sensor and the second for a magnetic sump plug to go back in again. Finally whilst the sump pan is being fixed I got hold of a new toy below to keep the engine running longer and save it from oil starvation. Not that I track it, but theres a lot of twisties on the way to work, so prevention is the key Not only that but CS are having a massive offer on until the New Year on far reduced labour and parts rates, so it would be mad to take up their offer Should have the old girl, back in tip top condition, by friday, looking all sparkly and clean after a full valet too. Hi Guys, I've not been on as much as I'd like due to pressures of work and exams etc. Should be back on again more often now, work has settled from manic to just plain crazy, but in a managable way. I had to some free time and was thinking about getting some stickers for the car bit couldnt decide as to what was in decent taste and what was definetly out. I've spent hours now going over and over, looking at different pics of cars and still cant make my mind up.. I came across this site and found this pic of a gorgeous blue wagon very similar to mine (apart from this one is clean and in better condition) and it was totally naked. So my mind is made up no stickers for me, might even take off the ones I have now Anyhoo, cheers for now. Col
  16. It might be worth getting hold of a gauge to see that the levels are in also to be able to see any spikes or dips as they occur? If the boost controller is still turned down low, it may not show up any possible leaks? Cheers, Col

  23. Hehe thx, bodge is my middle name , it's good to see they amend their errors, but dont announce it. It's a pity you had to find out the hard way, I wonder if they recalled these cars that had the over sized hoses?

I was driving back home from work tonight and stopped at the wee bridge in Lechlade, 5 miles from home, when I saw a big puff of white smoke coming from the engine bay, the car gave up no weird indications so I thought it must have been smoke from the brake pads. I carried on and every time I slowed down more 'smoke' appeared so I gingerly drove back on zero boost. At no time did I see any voltage drops, water temperature rises, oil temp or pressure changes. I did think that the exhaust manifold had heated and melted some of the loom. As soon as I reached home the car was switched off the the bonnet opened. It turns out the top radiator hose has a tiny hole that had dropped lots of coolant onto the exhaust manifold and produced the smoke/steam. As a stroke of luck I had a spare hose to put in place along side a coolant temp probe as a 'future' project, no hastily brought forward. After a quick bodge the hose was ready to install, but armed with an inspection lamp, snips and a screwdriver and 3 hours the hose was back on A wee, slightly blurry, piccy of the replacement 'hose' Blue Peter styley...dont tell the wife I did it on the kitchen worktop
