  1. Gutted for you mate. I pass that way every day and will defo keep an eye out.
  2. When you say it won't start do you mean it still turns over but won't fire or the thing is dead?
  3. Don't be a stranger guys. Just look for the guy surrounded by all the women. And if looking for the car just ask about the one with the f%*ked gearbox, that is how it was described to me at the gathering. Imy - yes I'll be out and about much more this year now the spannering has all been done.
  4. As above, leave the crank sensor disconnected and crank it until the oil pressure light goes out. Was the fuel drained from the system and if so why? Also is the fuel fresh or 6 months old?
  5. Well, I've got one on them too. It's not really a commuter bike but thats what i use it for anyway. It's not any more economical than the focus but I get there a hell of a lot quicker, especially when traveling through the Glasgow rush hour. The flip side is I can't pick the kids up from school in it. Decide what you're after, cheap transport, a bit of fun, a family wagon etc and take it from there.
  6. I've been through this one. Used to have a my97 UK for my everyday car. Racked up loads of miles on it which cost a fortune in depreciation, fuel, servicing, tyres etc. Didn't feel happy leaving it outside a cinema, in the town or even in a supermarket car park. I drove it like miss daisy 99% of the time and when I did put my foot down it was fast but never gave me that wow feeling. Now I have a 1.6 focus for my everyday car. 40 to the gallon, £150 to insure, 2 kiddies eating crisps in that back and spilling juice (leather is great for that btw), nice and quiet and comfy, service it myself whenever I remember. Then there's the subaru, I can take it off the road for major upgrades and not have to walk to work on Monday morning, make it as hardcore as I like, limited mileage policy and it feels rocketship fast every time I drive it. Even if a second car only made you break even it's still worth it for all the plus points. Also, there's nothing quite like saying to the missus "Shall we take the Scooby? ".
  7. Will do mate Frank - yup, 3/4 on the front and standard on the back. It's not too jailbait compared to some of the others out there and the fact that you had to ask kind of confirms that.
  8. Thanks guys but the credit goes to Mike on this one. Gary, plates are from fancyplates.com.
  9. Damm it. Now I won't hear you soon enough to have time to hide before the doorbells goes.
  10. Yup, that's what Mike told me. The car hasn't turned a wheel since it was done so it still looks stunning. After payday I'll be investing in some products and a pair of white gloves.
  11. IMHO they're the ONLY wheels you can put on a classic. The spare wheels Johnny was talking about can be seen in my before pics. It's the same wheel but in uber rare magnesium, blue is the only colour they come in so you know what they are. I've never seen another set in the flesh and only a couple online.
  12. Edited for correctness
  13. I've been waiting on ths thread First off, MASSIVE thanks go out to Mike. A genuinely nice guy who spent his day off washing, sorry detailing, a total stangers car. And not just any car. You've all probably seen the state it was in a couple of months ago. What this guy doesn't know about bringing an old dog back to life isn't worth knowing. Of course I've washed a car before, 4 or 5 times at least, but there was much to learn. Mike gave the paint a good inspection before we got started but it was still covered in cr@p for the 700 mile round trip to Banbury. I took my sleeve and and wiped it to give him a better idea of hat we were working with but it made a loud shrieking noise. Well, it didn't, he did. 6 hours leter I came away with half a clue and one slick looking motor. I popped the bonnet tonight and it nearly flew out of my hand it's that smooth. The one negative is it's really shown up the stone chips on the front but Mike has given me a top tip on what to do there too. After all his hard work it'd be rude not to stay on top of it so expect to see me in the show and shine section at the next event Dunc - needed spacers to clear but only 3mm so no biggie. I've got a bunch of differnt sizes if you need to try some out.
  14. On some other cars the belt can go round the air con as well as the power steering or alternator so the pulley would have to stay, on the subaru the aircon is stand alone so can just be removed.
  15. As above, STI panel filter until you go fmic and have to change. If you really must the apexi power intake is the best one out there. Good filtration and dry so it's relatively maf friendly.
  16. Cal, dccd can be found in sti ra's and type r's only. Insurance on my car is based on 5k miles a year and was just under £500 last year, an old fart like you should have no problems. Ping me if you have any specific classic questions. I'll convert you to old skool kule in no time. As for the OP's question....... the ra is noticeably rawer and will feel really different at least for a few weeks. It will sit at higher revs on the mototrway and while you will get used to it it will encourage you to take the scenic route more often and use the car as it was intended. The gearing is ideal for a short twisty track like knockhill and dccd will provide you with as much oversteer out of the hairpin as your talent will allow. Don't think of it as a better car than the wrx, just as one that's designed to do different things.
  17. You want your Subaru back? What Subaru?
  18. Yeah, I had a few people comment on it. Seemed like the most popular mod on the car
  19. Nice pics on photobucket Jongleurs. Saw you got a nice close up of my rear plate.
  20. Full service means a cambelt and that means they took the rad out. I'd be looking for foreign objects in or around the fan, loose bolts in the area and witness marks on the blades to see what it's hitting on. Just because it's not making the noise when you spin it by hand doesn't mean it's not sucking something in when there's more airflow.
  21. Ah, didn't know that/ I'll give them a bell. John - Andy who?
  22. That's some genuine frontier giberish.
  23. Grant - no, not the S201 ones, that would be too easy. They have a chrome lip on them with a carbon insert and are part number ST288114S010, I'm looking for the much rarer full carbon ones. There's no bling on my thing you know. Dave - I've found 3 suppliers so far but 2 are in Japan and one on the US. Was really wanting to find something more local before spending an obscene amount of money on 4 little discs. So, any suggestions?
  24. Official Subaru carbon fibre centre caps for Ray TE-37's. Did I mention that they're rare?
  25. Looking for some oe parts but the usual suspects are not able to source these rare parts for me. Done some googling and some overseas suppliers say they have them but looking for something closed to home. The part number is ST288114S000. Anyone have any suggestions other than to pester a stealer?
