  1. Stephen, if an established user has went to the bother to do that then having his post moderated is the least of their worries. Surely if they have an issue with Grant or just plain don't like the car they'd have the balls to say so?
  2. Lookin good Grant. So you gonna turn the blue one into a sensible daily driver?
  3. Steady on Stephen the guy is entitled to his opinion. So sti555, let's see your car.
  4. Sure looks the part buuuuuuuuttt * Exedy Racing Twin Plate Paddle Clutch * RCM Flywheel No such ting as a twin plate paddle that I've heard of and if it is a twin plate it comes with it's own exedy flywheel. Price is a bit high but thats just the starting point isn't it. Jim, you've got some pr!vate ma!l btw.
  5. Sorry to hear the gasket is on it's way out. Strange water leaks can normally be traced back to them as once the system starts to pressurise it's only a matter of time before it starts to find it's way out. If the engine's out check the condition of the clutch as this is a great time to change a worn one.
  6. In my opinion if the car is road legal then just drive it up the road. The cost of getting it up here on a flatbed will add a fair bit to the price of the car. That money could be spend on a service or a velvet rope. If there is something else that worries you like you'd like to do a few shakedpwn runs closer to home I'd understand that too but if traffic is your main worry just travel in the evening. Worse case scenario - stop off at Bargeddie and wait till the traffic has dies down.
  7. JohnnyR6 and Coulty did it on theirs. The pipes all fit ok but the newer tanks fouls on the the shape of the older manifold. I made up a bracket to space it out a little and job was a goodun. They may be able to post up a pic if they read this.
  8. Ah, so you have heard the legend of hayseed dixie then? Grant - why can it not be driven home? Cost/sorned/no mot/no ins?
  9. Nice one mate, hope you never get to see the inside of it tho. rtm4676 - yes they can crack around the plug holes but if they haven't done it by now they're not likely too. For what it's worth all of the big power classics run them.
  10. No debate as far as I'm concerned. Fewer teeth but bigger and wider. If you saw the two next to each other you'd pick the phase 2 as the strongest no doubt.
  11. Yes mate. If you want. Version 5 on can have ecutek, apexi, simtek, solaris etc. Whatever you fancy.
  12. Oh yes, my phase 2 gearbox took 420/400 and was as sweet as a nut.
  13. V5 or 6 for my money. Yes, the 3's and 4's have more agressive cams but phase 2 cars car the better blocks, heads, gearboxes, managment and in my opinion looks. A hundred years ago when the only mod my car had was a backbox it ran a 12.9 at crail. Nuff said.
  14. Not really. I'm not saying that is defo what it is, just a possibility. There are other checks for a HGF but this would be the quickest and easiest unless you have a compression gauge. It could be loads of different things but over that side of the engine bay there's only a couple of things it could be. Radiator, bottom hose, expansion tank and crossover pipe. You said it's a new radiator, I've never heard of a tank or crossover pipe going so that leaves bottom hose (which is easy to check) or the water is being pushed out of the top of the top of the tank. The only other reason could be it's coming out under high pressure and blasting accross the engine bay but that would be bloody obvious if it was. Like I said, hope it's something simple.
  15. If it only leaks when you give it some stick I'd check that it isn't a head gasket failure. Behind the passenger headlight you will see the expansion bottle. Take tke overflow rubber tube off the top of it and get a longer length. Run it up along the engine bay and out onto your windscreen. Make sure you don't pinch it too much when you close the bonnet. Then take the car out and put your foot down. If coolant comes out the end, sorry mate, thats not a good sign. If not it's good news and you have ruled HGF out. Best of luck.
  16. Knockhill??? I reckon with will go in Grant's living room and never be let out of his sight.
  17. So you bought it then, well done mate.. It looks like it's too late to leave this one standard so might as well really go for it. As for a name. Well it's a wide arch type r with a stroked motor and a rotated turbo. It got to be the gobslobber doesn't it.
  18. Yup, it reminded me of one of my crail launches. I realise I'll never be that lucky again so when it comes to fuel now I pack 2 extinguishers and only use top of the line components in my fuel system. Oh yes, and Coulty isn't allowed near it.
  19. if it wasn't for your "almighty bang" comment I'd have bet on it being a popped fuel hose. I had the same happen to me at a central meet after not flaring my fuel pipes after a par fuel rail mod. I had a trail of petrol a foot wide behind the car and when I pulled into the subaru dealers in falkirk (can't remember the name) I has plumes of what looked like white smoke coming out of my scoop and vents. Turns out it was petrol vapour after I'd soaked my headers, turbo etc. I was lucky and things could have went very different. Be careful out there people.
  20. Jim, can't tell you how gutted I am for you. I'm sure it won't even have sunk in yet. Can anything be slavaged or is it pretty much fubar'd?
  21. Hmmmm, toughie. Doubt it'll have anything to do with the dccd to be honest as thats built into your gearbox and you said the noise was coming from the rear. If it altered with speed your looking at prop, diff, shafts, hubs or brakes.
  22. New suspension and geometry set up means lots of things have been loosened off. I'd satrt by checking they've all been tightened up again. If it was happening on the overrun with the dccd wide open the rear would have been doing most of the engine braking. You mention it was worse at low speeds, where you in a lower gear with more engine braking? Also was there just a noise or could you feel anything?
  23. Please treat this question within the context it is asked. Random banging or regular banging that altered with speed?
  24. Got to be. You jumping into bed with Paul on this one John?
  25. Edited for correctness
