  1. True Euan but the ends aren't the issue, it's the bit connecting them that will get fried. Yes you can replace it but to what end if they just get toasted again?
  2. Did you disconnect the battery before fitting the pump? If so will more than likely have reset the ecu which has now diagnosed the failed maf. Borrow one from another 98, reset the ecu again and take it for a spin before buying one to make sure.
  3. Where did you find that lovely motor John? Without a doubt the weirdest day I've had in a long time but you can't argue with the results.
  4. One other thing to consider, putting the sensors into a sandwich plate will mean running those very expensive and near impossible to replace cables past the headers. Good luck with that.
  5. Mine had plenty of length but I did not use a sandwich plate. I took pressure from the standard location and the temp from the plug at the number 3 cylinder. Never heard of anyone having a problem though.
  6. Happy to be proven wrong on the should I paint it debate. It looks amazing. Will really look the part when seen in my rear view mirror.
  7. On a vf28 with the above mods?
  8. Still on WRX heads? No more than 320 I'd say.
  9. What fuel?
  10. You don't want it. Turbo stall is bad for the turbo and increases lag dramatically.
  11. Crikey, sounds like it's going to be a bit of a handful. Is it still going to be a road car Chris? It definitely sounds like a dream team spec but my only worry would be all the things that make it work well on the track will also make it harder work on the road.
  12. I had one for a while. They don't make any noise to speak of as the air is dumped back into the induction pipe same as the standard one does. I fitted it as I was running enough boost to possibly damage the plastic one but there's no performance gain. The reason they improve how the car drives is the same reason they don't make any noise - all the air drawn in is metered and the car will fuel accordingly.
  13. MOT Tax Insurance Wash (maybe)
  14. Let me worry about what I do with my sword and you can look after your pen knife. If you ever come up for air give me a shout.
  15. Can't say I heard any rumours about you Callum other than those about your sexuality. Those were concerning a smashed in rear end also. If someone has a bone to pick then they should say it to your slabber covered face like in the old days. What you driving these days (apart from all the old queers crazy)? P.s. You're a homo.
  16. Basic maintenance is great but not really what I was talking about. Making big power out of a relatively small engine means a rigorous maintenance regime and regular tear downs for inspection. On the gauge question my answer would depend whether the latest simtek has active knock control. The version I'm on doesn't so I have the ability to monitor knock, differential fuel pressure, egt and wideband lambda in addition to boost, oil temp and pressure. It makes for a rather messy dashboard but is essential and has saved my engine by warning of issues on 4 different occasions.
  17. It'll certainly prove interesting the first time you put your foot down, I'd recommend you do it somewhere with plenty of space, good surface and no corners for the first few times. Do your best to pick the builders brains so you know everything you can as a machine at this level of tune will need a lot of maintenance which will be difficult/impossible without all the facts.
  18. You remember I have that small bag of bits you left in my garage?
  19. I'm guessing there'll be something else going in the way there Intercooler big enough????????
  20. Any tips? Depends. Do you want a good time or to drive your car home? Getting one can lessen the chance of the other. THE top tip is take an RAC card with you.
  21. Prefer the urban but not enough to pay for a full respray. Save the cash for fuel and parachutes.
  22. looks tidy - a couple of close up engine bay shots please.
  23. Wouldn't suggest a spec until I knew how much power you want. 2.5 seems to be good up to 400 as you say but if you're only wanting to go a smidge over then you should be fine. If you want much more then it's time to get out a pencil and a big bit of paper for the list of bits you'll need.
  24. Not at all mate. If thats your thing then who am I to tell you what to do with your car or cash. It's an iteresting build so I'll continue to watch and maybe chip in here and there (if that's ok) but if you're happy then feel free to ignore. Out of interest, if you're a time served mechanic why are you farming the work out? I'm an absolute liability with a spanner but with a little (lot of) help put mine together in my garage.
  25. This is a great example of the issues you come accross when making major modifications. Something that seems ok at an early stage comes back to bite you later on, so you change that and find yourself with new problems and so on. The best cure is to speak to those who have done it before, listen hard, or find yourself destined to repeat their mistakes. If you don't mind redoing things and your more interested in the experience or the learning curve then please ignore me and enjoy.
