  1. that wasnt 100%... that was being a fanny in the wet
  2. Fee is a good driver - Much better, maybe. Much smoother, yes. I'm not scared to say that LOL but we've never been timed in the same car, same track etc. She now has an easy 600+ to my 380bhp LOL. And comparable weights I'd think. Why KH? 1- I know the track so have (hopefully) an advantage that should make up for some of the power deficite. 2- Travel costs for two cars (towed) are a lot. We did Snet with 2 cars in 2009 and it was expensive to say the least. 3- Timing - I 'should' be home for KH, but dont know my schedule for the rest of the year. Take it when you can. Having done TA before I can safely say its at a completly different leval to a trackday. Even with a paltry 380bhp i cannot push 100% on a trackday... you cannot time (officially) and you have no one to beat. They simply cannot or maybe shouldnt be compared.... If they could be, why would anyone bother competing? To see how you fair against others.... to test yourself... to test your car. Many reasons for doing it! Not entering because it may be a challange or hard is a daft reason. Not doing TA (1 round) because your car 'may' break is a bit lame.... If everyone thought like that, the human race would still be hiding in the back of a cave somewhere in the dark ages. Your car may break on any trackday, on the road - in the garage. If its going to break its going to break. Competing at a track you've never been to before....... this puts you at a big disadvantage from the word go. You'll spend most of the time learning the track/lines. At Snet in 2009 where I spent the sat on an MLR trackday I was still making up over 1 seconds between each session. If I knew the track well I could have been near the peak rather than still trying to find it
  3. The costs are 'as bad' if the car is up to spec already and you have all the safety gear. BUT yes - if it was a pure one-off and you needed racing boots, gloves, suit, MSA helmet, fire ext, rain light on top of the control tyres and entry fee's it can be a bit scary. I estimate my costs for this one off to be £800. I have a race suit, gloves, helmet, boots etc and the car is up to MSA Blue Book regs (can run in TA pro classes). If it wasnt this price would soar!!! Prob about £1700 Also - once you have done the OHW you have the control tyre to either use again or sell - making a potential second OHW MUCH cheaper than the initial one. My Impreza runs 17x9's so I can pass on my 1 event old tyres to Fee to use as another spare set. Pro entry for the season costs £2500'ish, for 7 rounds....
  4. As above..... I've entered as a OHW and was wondering if there were anymore doing the same? I dont have a crazy spec car (370-380bhp) so have my own personal targets rather than going for the top step Thats not saying I wont be trying though I know there are a few scottish evo's entered (Matty, Mike, Russ, Eric & Barbour) along with Fee in the R32.
  5. some updated pics (from KH, Anglesey and Oulton) Car: Swaped to a Simtek ECU now, still having issues with the flexi section on the up-pipe so may well need to replace it Eventually the plan is to go rotated with a GT30 and aim for 500hp and go chasing Skylines. Its sub 400 just now.
  6. and some more updating (I was actually looking for my car!) Fee won 2010 Time Attack Club Class and the car is now in bits getting mild improvements for 2011. Engine is currently being put back in the car after a winter refresh/rebuild Discovered that the block was cracked (I think maybe from Brands as it has been losing coolant since then) so it has been replaced with a slightly newer R33 block. Uprated cams and pulleys, uprated turbo elbows, ports matched on the manifolds and fresh seals, bearings and rings. New rear diff (OS Giken Superlock) to replace the well worn 20 year old standard one All new bushes for the rear end....again to replace the ancient standard ones New uprated anti roll bars front and rear...to replace the standard ones New custom cages T45 multipoint cage to meet the pro regs Flocked dash (and hopefully a demister fitted!) Once I get that all paid for I might just manage the entry fees! Few pics of the progress The 'Team'! cage fitting at Wallace Performance Think we may also experiment with a bit more E85 (E85R this time) this time. It made 611bhp on a 25% E85, 75% V Power mix in the later half of 2010. The car has pump and injector capacity for about 800bhp (V Power). Maybe try 50/50
  7. That was back in the summer - before the widearch and 9" wheels. I was running 215 wide R888's and some wacky camber The car was alot more lively/flickable back then. Think it has to much grip (in bone dry) to get away with those antics now full vid here - oh, and a rear cam only vid of the last 10mins of the event on Sat. Good for seeing my 'interesting lines', esp 5:12 at duffis hehe
  8. we use go pro's sometimes too driver cam in this sprint vid
  9. - Fee driving, Simmie in the passenger seat Super smooth compared to me! Craigy in the astra - wet! Flaming red corrado, madmax escort, black VX220 - getting slippier towards the end Red Elise beached at bottom of Duffis at end. - Wet and very slippy, Matty in Pas seat. Some very bizzare lines through duffis as the front was just drifting out :S James Bruce in the white VII, VTEC Mini, wobble into hairpin at 3:26, RS4, lairy hairpin slide at 5:53, Iain in the 90, rear lockup into McIntyres at 7:26, moment on exit of chicane at 7:41, rear lock up at 7:46 into carlube. Phew.
  10. Thats all my vids done now excuse any hand waving, I dont even know i'm doing it half the time. All have front and rear cams - Footatge includes McBride, Matty/Mike, Eric, Iain in the audi, drifting starlet , Jame in the wagon and more. Watch Eric have a 'moment' in the rear camera around 12:39. A wee lockup into hairpin at 7:05 followed by a bit of a lairy slide exiting the hairpin :S Clipped the apex cone for duffis at 7:29, BIG lockup into hairpin at 8:13 but managed to scrub the speed off just enough to stay right on the edge of the track - Dave driving Impreza for the first time, and first time on Knockhill alltogether. 70sec lap! - couple of 61sec laps in this with Mike chasing in Mattys EVO IV. Has datalog overlay
  11. Here's my first vid.... with Eric (TA car) having a spin behind me at 12:20'ish And another..... This one with Mike chasing in Mattys EVO IV. Much more powerfull car but on lesser tyres. Front camera, rear camera and data overlay (speed, laptime, G force and track position) excuse any handwaving... think i must be italian
  12. Our 2dr will be there.... if the exhaust and new ECU is mapped in time
  13. As far as I know that is the circuit 5th Gear use, but I think they use the Coastal layout as opposed to the GP we were on Its a much much more interesting track than the likes of Snetterton LOL Wilky - standard
  14. Made a 7hr trip down to North Wales on sat for a trackday on Sunday. We went to have a look at the circuit as its a new one for TA this year (Coastal layout rather than GP). Great circuit, but a little let down by the paddock/ammenities. Makes KH look swish Getting the car setup right took a while. Fee was struggling to get any heat into the rear tyres and with the air temp a balmy -6 this didnt help LOL Anyway, here are some pics and vids. We only had the Impreza down as the GTR is still in bits. Vids: (some with rear cam overlays) My 2nd lap of the day.... off on the grass, doh - Me (Adam) driving - Fee driving - me driving -
  15. That isnt a Skyline!!! LOL Nissan R35 GTR
  16. do some homework before potentially wasting £600 over wisely spending say £1.2k How much are Nitrons?
  17. Out in the Impreza again but hampered a bit by random issues. wee lad in passenger seat seemed to enjoy it. A few moments under braking and a couple of slides. One big slides round McIntyres i think, or could be next vid. Running around 1bar, part throttle and normally under 6k rpm :S (2.1 with 20G). Loads more pics and vids here (far too much for me to copy over here LOL ) http://trackscotland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2303
  18. Wallace Performance have MOT equipment in their new premisis, not sure if its ready to use yet though. AW Autotech are good too Both not ideal location wise for you though (city centre)
  19. what or who on earth is ZunSport ?!
  20. Had a wee test of the Impreza at Oulton on Sat. There were a few other imprezas there on the day. Anyone here? Some daft spins.... and still learning the car since new engine, new susp, new brakes etc etc. First time on track in it (bar one sprint) since Feb! Seems nice and stable in the dry. You can hear Fee saying it felt better than hers. In the wet was a different story. I didnt bother changing anything from a dry setup. Full hard all round, very worn 888's etc. SPin Spin Spin 1 - Fee in pass seat, no offs but fee complaining of a sore a*** after taking off over kerbs - mostly dry2 - 2 offs - no comment about the second :S mostly dry track3 - 1 off then black flagged for not coming in after going off. - wetCamera angles are pish.... Here is a vids from the Skyline chasing, then being chased, then being passed by the Impreza.
  21. I've just been thinking about that. I got a price from Pavlo/Paul before but cant r'ber what it was. Need to count up the pennies though
  22. Have you noticed a big difference with the 9" wheels and wider tyres? Cosworth baffle plate... isnt that more to stop oil getting sucked up breathers... it'll still move around a lot in the pan (but you had a baffle plate in there too :S) We killed 2 engines with surge in the Skyline (and 2 in the Impreza so far ). The Skylines main problem seemed to be oil pooling at the back of the head. It has enlarged oil drains in the block now. Restricted oil flow to head. External oil drain to sump coming off the rear of the head. 8l baffled sump. Seems pretty stable - I was watching the oil pressure gauge round coram (when out with Fee on MLR day) and at a reasonable pace it was rock steady at 6.5bar. I think our main problem used to be simply not having enough oil. We had a high flow oil pump and a standard size baffled sump. I think we'd pretty much empty it quickly and cause surge at high revs on corners!
  23. +1 for Vinyl Cut Donald did out whole car, then the rears again (after a bash), the the rear bumper and rear 1/4s again after more work LOL Good guy.
