A couple of good research items for you are the Duke DVD of the Nissan Skyline has a full lap at race speed of the "old" track and if you fancy driving it to learn the corners Project Gotham Racing 2 on the Xbox has it as pretty accurate representation of the "old" track, hell you can even use an EVO 8 in black though i dont know if it can accurately represent the size of the guy in the drivers seat. You would need a descent set of wheel and pedels to get the full benefit but it would help in knowing whats around those corners at 140mph Grant

Good article in this months Practical Car about ten of the best track cars of all time, number 3 was a Clubman with a Civic Type R engine in it. Max speed of circa 125mph but the 0-100 time of 7 secs was scary and it cost £4000 to build from scratch. HHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMM tempting Grant

The TD05 will handle the stress involved as it has a heavy duty turbine shaft. The drag cars from Japan run huge turbos without any dumpvalve with huge front mounts and they guys dont put anything on the car which may impede performance but as i have not driven a car with a front mount and no dumpvalve i could not say wether or not you would notice any effect. At a guess i would say the principle would be the same as a top mount, the manifold and intercooler would still contain the pressurised air so it would take less time for the turbo to spool up to reach its desired boost level just that the induction tract is a lot longer on a Fr mount than a top mount You would not do any harm in trying it out to see if the turbo hits its boost target quicker on a fr mount Grant

A friend of my father used to hillclimb a street legal Estelle with a Porker flat 6 strapped in the back, funnily enough he used to stay in the east around Tranent way i believe, this was many a moon ago but i still have fond memories of that wierd contraption, power oversteer in a straight line in the dry Grant
-
No it reduces lag on mid to high boost gearchanges as the intercooler and manifold still contain pressurised air which is nice, so the turbo has less work to do to get back to full boost pressure Grant

How do Dastek and Star rollers compare?
the squiggle replied to RaymondH's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Brian i may join you, if thats ok with you, at Dastek next Sat as im desparate to strap it down again now shes running properly to try and get more power than she gave the last time, which im more than confident she will...............................touch hairy wood Grant -
After a long three paragraph reply, which my PC has wiped of the face of the earth, which explained why the turbo made that fluttering noise and the technical pros and cons of removing the dumpvalve Short answer Buy a cone filter, K+N 57i/Pipercross/HKS/Blitz, and block off the 3 pipes around where the std dumpvalve would be. Your scooby will chirp just like Sollbergs car Modern World Rally Cars run with no dumpvalve what so ever, the last Rally cars to use an external dumpvalve were the Grp B cars and the early Grp A cars like the Cossie's of Wilson and Delacour Some cars are ok to run without a dumpvalve as the compressor shaft is strong enough to withstand the stresses involved. Classic WRX saloons are good for it, Classic UK cars can be a bit weak in the shaft dept. In general the TD05 and 04 will run without a dumpvalve but the early IHI VF range of turbos are not the best for it. The twin scroll in your car Andy will handle the stress with no problem at all as that is the turbo Subaru Japan fit to the N10 factory rally car It is true that Wullie and myself both run without a dumpvalve, mines for over 18 months and no problems and as far as know Wullie hasn't had any problems on his UK wagon At the next meet/track day/run look for the idiot with the stupid exhaust sticking out an unusual place and i can let you here the noise my imaginary dumpvalve makes. IMHO it sounds better than they £150 HKS blow off chuffer valves Grant

No way man McRae in a Skoda I'm a fanatical McRae supporter but that is taking the biscuit, what happens if they bring out a Series McRae Fabia, i'm ganna be scunnered cause there is no way that im buying a bloody Skoda unless it came with 700nm of torque, 6 speed sequential, carbon fibre everything, active diffs, hydraulic handbrake, launch control and antilag all for £5000 with a 3 year warranty and 3 years free servicing then i would maybe, just maybe, consider it Seriously, if it means McRae in the WRC then it's a good thing for A, the sport in general B, Scottish pride Grant
-
Yeah its a shame when the only way for any UK driver to progress is for someone in the know to look after them and foot some of the rather large bills that will rack up on the way. Where as the Garlic swilling bloody idiots have a government sponsored programme that has produced Loeb in such a short space of time to world champion level. Of course this doesn't apply to Mathew Wilson, he just has to ask daddy if he can have a shot in one of his company cars. Tell you what give me a Ford WRC and enter me in every single round of every championship and i would do better than Wilson jnr. I remember on the Malcolm Wilson Rally at Cockermouth this year we were servicing right next door to the Ford team. We all gathered round the Ford service area after we heard that Wee Matty had skelped a tree on the third stage and when the car came into service looking a right mess, front bumper, bonnet, lights and wings all mangled, possibly retirement material for the majority of us but not a problem when your dad owns M-Sport. The solution was to send the mechanic up to the factory, about 2 miles away from the central service area, to pick up all the parts required for a rebuild. Remarkably 20 mins later the car leaves service looking brand new only for him to leave the road again on the last stage........... DOH At the Colin McRae stages in Perth this year Kris Meeke was driving a Millington powered MK2 Escort with 300 odd horses and RWD, the amazing thing was he was posting times quicker than the Grp A Impreza's and Evo's with 4WD and modern day suspension Grant

<< Teletext seems to think both are pulling out from the end of 2005. I also thought just one of them would go, but seemingly not - shame. The only good driver from either camp is Leob anyway so there is no great loss. With the exception of Sainz and Gronholm of course, but one has retired and I would expect Marcus to go at the end of next year too. Totally agree about Hirvonen - besides being useless, he is far to ugly to be allowed anywhere near a Subaru WRC. Surely they will punt him. I too would love to see the master back where he belongs, but fear that if it was going to happen, it would have this year. You are totally right about increased sales of the car. I would now rather see someone like Guy Wilks get the Subaru seat - he is the future. M. >> I like Guy Wilks but the one i would tip for the top is Kris Meeke, he has a driving style which reminds me of the master at his peak I dont want the sport to lose Gronholm then we would miss classic lines like When a traffic cop stopped him in Wales for driving a car with only 3 wheels Traffic Cop ................. " Im sorry sir but you cannot drive that car on the Queens highway with only 3 wheels" Gronholm ..................." I can and i just have driven for the past 20 miles " Traffic cop .................." You dont understand, i am telling you that you cannot drive that car with only 3 wheels any further " Gronholm ..................." No you dont understand i can drive the car with only 3 wheels " Traffic cop .................." If you try to drive that car any further i will have to arrest you" Gronholm .................. " But i can drive the car " Traffic cop .................." If you try i will arrest you " Gronholm, determined to have the last say on the matter, " But i can drive the car" Gronholm after stopping at the end of a stage in Finland "We have a problem, Tino is hurt, something has entered the car via the floorpan, punched a hole in the seat and went right up Tino's arse. I am stunned because Tino is screaming in pain and has something metallic in his arse, what do you want us to do" Gronholm after the Peugeot gearbox gave up the ghost for the umpteenth time "You can go tell Corrado to build a gearbox with only one speed but that would probably snap as well" Tha guy is a genius you cant get rid of the only guy to backchat a Traffic Cop ........ superb Motorsport news had an excellent feature with Guy Frequlin and Corrado Provera talking about the future of PSA in the WRC Grant
-
I dont think both are leaving, the hierarchy at PSA, Peugeot-Citreon parent group, are finding it hard to justify spending masses of dosh on development for the 2 separate teams which are both one and the same company Peugeot say it should be them as they have been competing longer but Citreon say it should be them as they have the better car which is winning at the moment Ford have confirmed that they are staying in the WRC for another 4 years, Mitsu-shit-i are also looking at a full program next year as are Skoda. Suzuki are toying with the idea of getting involved as thier JWRC car performed better than expected I wish Subaru would see sense and bring back the mad Scotsman and sack that eejit Hirrvonen The revenue generated from increased sales of Subaru cars and merchandise would more than pay McRae's wages But wether or not McRae still has the hunger to compete for the title is debatable as it wasn't the same McRae that drove for Citreon in 2002 to the one that drove for Subaru in 1995 Grant

For your car there would be no benefit that im aware of The only differance between a normal turbo mounted wastegate and an external is the external wont interfere with the gas flow leaving the turbo when it opens and bypasses the turbo Only when running boost levels of over 2 bar should you consider an external doodah. The Grp B cars of the eighties and the current Indycars run with "Boiler valves". If you look behind the drivers side front wheel on a Grp B quattro there is a small diameter pipe where the external wastegate vents its gases to atmos. The last spec of Grp B Quattro ran at nearly 3 bar of boost on a 6 inch KKK turbo and when the wastegate fired it was about 100 times louder than Antilag as the wastegate exit pipe was only about 2 feet long Grant

Who can do Remapping on a Jap STi to use UK Fuel
the squiggle replied to SCOOBYD00's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Well if your happy with the cars performance then go for a Dastek unichip which can be live mapped to alter your timing to UK fuel and generaly free up a few extra ponies. About £600 i think If you are planning on going for bigger Horse power in the future then an Apexi Power FC, GEMS or Motec will be better suited to your task. Betwenn £800 and £3000 A third option would be, again in the modest performance gains bracket, is the Scoobyecu. Problem is they are as rare as a gold coated jobby. About £100 The V3 would be happy on Opti + Octane Booster but as the wise man Kartman said get a Knock link to monitor engine activity to ensure all is well when the right foot becomes leaden Grant -
The one in NZ hitting 19o mph is the first generation GC8 car with a recognisable under bonnet arrangement with a massive front mount , turbo the size of Wales and a reverse inlet manifold i think its peak is around the 550 brake area with a sequential six speed and carbon fibre everything www.junauto co.jp and use alta vista to translate The latest JUN Impreza, which is based on the Blobeye, uses the US 2.5 STI motor and was rumoured to have spent £200.000 alone on engine development costs. In total the car cost around half a million pounds to finally build. The peak power was in the region of 650 brake. When you see under the bonnet, absolutly nothing is recognisable (Desperatly trawling Google images looking for the pics of the under bonnet to show you what i mean) How the hell CRD got 700 odd horses out of an Impreza i will never know .............. oh yes i forgot NOS Imagine taking a Supra, tuned to the tits by one of the leading parformance garages in Japan, which was running at 900 hp and slapping a 300hp Nitrous kit on it. The Japanese way of thought Spend thousands of hours mapping and developing a car to produce a fantastic amount of power and which will last several top speed runs and thousands of quarter miles only for some nutter wearing a skirt slap a Nitrous system on it and blow it sky high on its first run DOH Grant

AP 6 pots are awesome and probably the best stoppers for a Scoob, 10 pots are purely for bling bling style but i would not say no to a pair Dont know about the NOS thing on the CRD but i suspect that it would have. I will apoligise immediattly if this is wrong AFAIK the most powerful Subaru is the JUN powered Impreza developed 650bhp without any funny gas running 2 separate custom plenum chambers and a massive centrally mounted turbo Grant

<< Think i am gonna be a tart >> Nowt changed there then ya big tart As for the CF bonnet leave that madness to DRB5 and his micro-light As for fitting the splitter in the cold harsh December weather, i can send your car through DHL for you to fit it in sunny Iraq. Might cost a few grand and you will have to collect it from Baggydaddy but it will save having to deal with our god awful miserable weather. Better still i can drive it all the way over to the hell hole and walk back Take it easy big chap Grant

<< Pishy Tarox 10 pot's. >> With a jealous eye squinting at them eh Dave I would whip that 70000000000000 horse Subaru in my DHL Transit, NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO PROBLEM Old A-Team trick to deal with CRD Impreza Shipyard strength chain and hook. End with hook attatched to the CRD Impreza rear diff and other end attached to an immovable object, E.G Karps backside, When the lights go green, then we will see who the daddy is On AndyF Remember lads he is running a top mount when he goes front mount i reckon he will be chapping on CRD door asking for the crown back Grant

<< Damn it!!!!!! more fun missed >> Give me a shout when you get back and the 2 of us can head up, i want mine running better and do it again also think of the bloody money your earning The auto electrician came out to my car when i got home and plugged in his Select Monitor type thing and the ECU was showing -4 degrees of Knock Correction, reset the ECU and it immediatly showed -4 of Knock Correction My factory Knock Sensor is on the Bell Housing and the Knocklink Sensor is on the engine block so i think the factory sensor is hearing noises in the box/bell housing area and thinking its Det thus pulling the ignition timing back, will be locating the Factory Sensor somewhere else and plugging the Select Monitor back in to see if there is any Correction going on as the Knock link is dorment in the majority with only 1 yellow after sitting in traffic for a prolonged period Grant

Well i hit the highest figure for Air to Fuel Ratio. A stonking 9 to 1, no wonder it was doing 1 mile to the gallon. Power was 250 bhp at 7000rpm, 230 lbs/ft at 4000rpm boost was 1.0 bar, considering the Air to Fuel Ratio im happy enough with after it came of the rollers i reset the ECU and dropped the fuel pressure to standard and gave it some stick on the way home, felt an immediate improvement So i think im gonna head back up sometime soon with the car running a reasonable AFR, a bit more boost and hopefully should get some more power I was originally going through just to watch but as usual monkey see monkey do Good to meet and put a name to a face type thing, Kartman, Wrxmania, Chris Top power figure award went to Playsatan with 320odd horses Guy with biggest grin award went to Stevo-sti, breaking 300 hp with standard car Biggest balls award to DRB5 for strapping down the Yaris, big grins when it flamed on the overrun Grant
