  1. With the fragility of the MY2000 MAF sensor in mind it would be a good early warning if you get a bad batch of fuel or the MAF or O2 sensor was to fall outwith safe perameters The MAF plays a major part in the fuelling of the car when it starts to load up and if it starts to give out the wrong signal then the whole map will go t*ts up but on the plus side the STD ECU still retains its knock correction capability in case you get a bad batch of fuel. So yes a AFR meter and a Knocklink type device would be both a crucial monitoring device even with a Remap Grant
  2. << What grant says about the maf they can fail with a performance panel filter as well i know i am on my third on my my2000 uk turbo >> I should have said a dry panel filter as the MAF on the 99/2000 cars can fail when you get oil on the MAF sensor. Grant
  3. It is a populer misconception that fitting a cone filter leans out the mixture and people that dish out that kind of advise are causing more harm than good and should stick to things they know about not just think they know. Funny that, you would think that fitting a cone filter to a car on a std ECU would make it lean out due to all that extra air rushing in but alas it richens up the mixture. Any modification that interferes with the air flow over the MAF sensor defo needs a remap to get any kind of healthy benefit. If your car is mapped for a std airbox then a uprated panel filter would give the best gains but if you are planning remapping the std ecu for a cone filter then a healthy benefit will gained from protecting the filter from heat. But dont listen to me i know nothing about nothing. Grant
  4. Before any fiddling with the performance do you have the following fitted? Knocklink or similar detonation monitoring equipment AFR meter such as Lambdalink or similar A properly set up ECU map will generate in the region of 300bhp on a TD04. For a better shove in the back i would go for a TD05 supported with a uprated pump and regulator then get AndyF to remap it with the new turbo. If you dont fancy the larger turbo i would go for the uprated pump and regulator then a reamp for a higher boost pressure. The uprated pump and regulator will add that wee bit of safety when running the higher boost. But dont listen to me as a i dont know what i am talking about...... Grant
  5. << wondered why i seen you this mornin grant bout 11.30 at the roundabout at the a1 dunbar u were headin back towards haddington i was in my citreon ax just headin back from nobles with my head gaskets etc!! >> Did not even realise i had went as far as Dunbar. I spotted Kartman with his bling alloys on the p1 on the By-pass. Dropped into see Chris after i left Andy and it was good to catch up with him. Grant
  6. Just a very large flag if you can. Either the Confederate or the Stars and Stripes one So i can wipe my skinny Scottish ass on it and start a Jihad between the Picts and the Yankee Doodle Dandies In all seriousness could you bring me back a big stone or smallish rock for my collection See you soon for some early morning rumbling...... Grant
  7. << Chris what speed were you doing when it was getting remap >> Best not to look at the speedo when getting mapped as it will frighten you. The best bit is when close to the end of the session when he says "Right 2500revs and floor it", the feeling of adrenalin is unreal when the car starts to really pull hard in the midrange and thunders its way to the top of the revs. Grant
  8. Wilky, i am afraid ma Crank is a tough as a Tank and if she was gonna pop today would have been that day but as i say "best not to keep all your roasted marshmallows in one fire" and if plan A, which you and a priviliged few others know about, falls by the wayside then your bottom end will step up as plan B, which you also know about It is not a VF28 as i first thought but the larger VF24 with is almost the same size wise as the TD05 but with a much better spool between gearchanges Grant
  9. Damn fine wee Justy there and with those arches and roof scoop Not 100% sure if it is drift spec but i am sure i could get the wee booger to drift in the car park at Braehead Picture of a Sonic Blue Subaru delivery van please Grant
  10. I found out last Friday that there may a chance to meet his holiness, the Right Honourable Andy F Esq, a full five weeks ahead of schedule due to the Satanic ones damn unfortunate set back in his plans for world domination. Met Andy at his unit and fitted all the monitoring gubbins to the car and told him what the idiot, me, had done to the car modification wise. For the past few nights sleep has been an issue due to knowing what the car is going to be subjected to when it is being remapped, will it hold together or will it blow the head gaskets or maybe throw a rod right throw the block, are the pistons gonna take it or did running with that phantom CEL for a couple of months do any damage, is the oil right for the job or could i change the plugs; you just do not know for sure if it will take the stress of prolonged long pulls through high gears After 2 hours of tinkling about the back roads of the East of Scotland the job was done with the Andy giving the engine a clean bill of health and with no DET. Beforehand the car used to put out 271bhp at 1.1bar on the ScoobyECU and TD05. The car feals quicker now on its low boost setting of 0.7bar that it did at 1.1bar on the old ECU. The high boost setting of 1.38bar is absoloutely astounding with the car trying to spin its wheels in second in the dry. The flexability of fifth gear now is stunning when you potter about at 50mph on the motorway and just gently prod the throttle it starts to act like a rabid dog straining on a leash. Another bonus is the massive improvement in the fuel economy getting back home. I had to tap the guage to make sure it was not stuck. I have run 8 different ECUs,{U8, Z4, 6K, ZeroSports, Microtech, ScoobyECU, GEMS} in my car since i got it 3 years ago and this is by a country mile the best economy, most responsive, tidiest ECU that i have experienced. By god the boffins at Apexi know what the are doing and when Andy does his stuff to said ECU, life is grand. So thanks again Andy for giving the B*tch some fire in her belly to fend off all the young upstarts and thanks to Playsatan for donating the Gucci parts from his Version 5 TypeR, DRB5 for his last minute loan of MAP sensor and to Coulty for being on the same wavelength and let me use his ScoobyECU for such a long time, JohnnyR6 its all yours but the biggest thanks is to Imy, the understanding girlfriend, who has understood and supported me when i have come up with hairbrained ideas God bless the Subaru Community and all who drive in her Grant
  11. 8.9secs at 151mph Now show me a Rally style Justy
  12. Well done Chris Good to hear the car is how you wanted and then some Unlucky Matt but as we all know the Phase 1 boxes turn to chocolate over 300bhp and with the B road Bomber pumping out well in excess of that, it has been in the post for a while. Maybe not a Modena but a Phase 2 setup like Coulty's would help. Grant
