  1. Indeed, hence the reason I have opted for that.
  2. Neil AndyF and Dunc at Hypertech both think that that is the damage. Not so much a piston, but the piston ring-land. I also go a compression test done the other day and it showed 145/145/135/90. The nsr cylinder is the offending one and clearly point to ring-land damage. Every other conceivable check has been carried out. John
  3. Yup! I have disspelled all notions of purchasing a shiny new GB270... I think! Just wating on AndyF getting back to me with a quote from the guy who did your pistons. J
  4. What problems? I'm not aware of any. In a community setting, you will always have disagreements and such-like. Who cares man! I have been posting and been a part of these forums for well over a year now and there has been little to no issues of any real note. There are dissagreements from time to time, but the vast majority of people (in my experience) just get over it and get on with it. I have been helped out time after time after time by people wom I have never met and people who hardly know me. As far as I am concerned, and all things considered, this is a good place to be, with good members, good advice and good humour. If you don't like it here, go away, there is no obligation for anyone to stay. My 2p.
  5. Peter, its the Blobeye STi that is one of Chris's options, won't have the 2.5. Chris, I spent about £1500 for a 2nd hand VF34, a custom made sport's cat and remap and got 340bhp with 390ft/lbs. PPP on an STI wouldn't even give you that. Hawkeye all the way mate, for the looks and the 2.5. Trouble is, mine's lasted 4 days before I popped a piston (well, ring). Car still runs and is very drivable, but as soon as I press the GO pedal, the car holds back in low revs. I am going to drop in the forged pistons and go for bigger brakes with an STi topmount and I'll be looking at an easy 400/400 with standard injectors. Just hope it doesn't go pop again! Good to see you're coming back! J
  6. Don't worry, I did the exact same thing!
  7. It's just a case of exploring mate. Good luck. I see your from the Glasgow area. There are once-monthly meetings on the first Thursday of every month. Usaully, the meet starts at about 7pm and the meeting place is the Harvester resturant in Hillington. The summer meets are much better as we usually go for a convoy through the country-side. Winter is a case of turning up and blethering and not much more than that. But its a good place to come to get advice and help with you car; just don't ask me anything! All the best John
  8. LOL! You had me worried there!
  9. Fantastic! Feels amazing doesn't it? Can't wait till I'm back on the raod man! ARGH so frustratign!
  10. Yeah, you'll easily break that. The PPP won give you anything extra that is effectively wiped with a re-map (I think).Yes, new underwear is in order!
  11. No idea mate!
  12. James, the pump has now been replaced and the fuel pressure tested and its still doing it! I have had the ECU reset and a new MAF fitted and it is much better, but I can feel it beginning to blip at the 2.5 - 3k mark again so its back to the drawing board.
  13. Aye, modding it seems to be the best choice. Look elsewhere for what though? Lovely nosh today ma man, cheers.
  14. Thanks mate, I'll drop him a PM.
  15. LOL! I know man, I'd miss them badly! I'm not liekly to make the 24th Novemeber one at this rate, well maybe I will, who knows!
  16. Yeah, that makes sense. Be jsut the thing to open up the engine to find nothng wrong then boil it down to the ECU. What is an aftermarket ECU system?
  17. Why thank you, looks like that is what I'm going to do. The 4K woudl have been spent on it in the long run with bigger brakes etc etc. All I'm doing is hitting it up all in the one go. If I get a new car, I'm not allowed on track with it! So the old one with the internals sorted will make it much more realiable and safer. J
  18. Andy.F Duncan at Hypertech, Subaru Falkirk, Subaru Ayr. Turbo and Downpipe have been removed and its still the same. I have had the MAF changed and the ECU reset and it seems a lot better, but its pulling back at 2.5 - 3K revs. The ECU remembers how far it pulls back the ignition and the next time the fault occurs, it pulls it back from the point it pulled it back previously. Therefore the effect is accumulative.
  19. Options 1 and 3.
  20. SOLD! I think I'll book it in tomorrow at Hypertech, get the forged pistons bigger injectors, STi Intercooler and that's me sorted for 500 big Jap horses! Well, so says Andy.F... Might have to keep some cash for a gear box, hehe!
  21. My current WRX has more power than a RB320! But its not working!
  22. Yeah much cheaper and mucho more power as well. Trouble is, I don't know what the issue is! So what if I throw 4K at it and it doesn't solve the issue!?
  23. Still love the car.
  24. Yeah, I'm going to take the exhaust off of it, but whats to point in taking ALKs and stuff liek that, will only cost me on labour and petrol to do that. I have standard springs, but I told the dealer I'd leave those on. I still have my turbo, and in time that woudl be going onto the 270. I know I wont recoup the 4k but to change to the new car is a cost of 8k and I'm never going to recoup that either. I have every intention of keeping my WRX for a long time to come, as you said, were else do you go after driving a Scoobie, so recouping is not an issue. In time it woudl be a track car when I'm 50 and driving a RAV 4 with a trailer! LOL! You still have that AP kit? The Big Man upstairs want me to be humble and drive a Ford Focus TD so I know his answer!
