  1. Wait wait! What is all this about? Competitions and racing and stuff - would someone like to explain to this recent member of the SIDC what all this is about? Please? Pretty please?
  2. LOL - Was just thinking the very same thing!
  3. Nice one Stephen, appreciate the effort. All the best with the career and glad that your not really stepping down (i.e. giving up Impreza ownership). Are you still going to be moderating? Thanks for the efforts, J
  4. Yes, they were. Becasue the brake light doubled as the indicator. That said though, I have seen lots of cars with the orange-style dedicated indicators too.
  5. You've got too many cars!
  6. Nice one! As stated, can be a little bit niggly getting things sorted etc. but well worth that little bit of effort. After all, I saved £300 with all mods declared. Furthermore, if I had gone through with my renewal with Admiral, I would have had to have declared a ton more mods that I got done in between policies which would have undoubtedly pushd the price up further. So in real terms, I saved mabye close to 400 maybe 500. Smashin'!
  7. AFAIK, the thicker oils provide better lubrication/protection when driving the car hard, it also withstands the greater temperatures genterated by said driving. Thus, it would seem that the thicker does not provide better performance as such, but provides protection when driving at performance levels. I too was recommended 5/40 but these guides are looking at everyday regualr driving. But let's be honest, who drives an Impreza like that 100% of the time? So it is better to have the thicker oil thus providing a greater safety margin when the urge takes us to go a little crazy once in a while I'm an idiot, so that is pretty much an idiot's understanding of it. I'm sure some technically, sound and knowledgeable mind will come along soon and set me straight.
  8. I'm all touched!
  9. Yeah, that's a good point.
  10. Nice one. Enjoy the car and the forum.
  11. LOL! Sure does.
  12. Agree, sticker looks cool and nice car colour. Also, as Marky says, lose the "Sport Special" stickies!
  13. Ah yes, those look rather lovely! I'll need to be speaking nicely to the missus for my birthday present!
  14. Nice info. So I have a level 3 upgrade: Nice one!
  15. Colin, the dealer should be able to set your geometry for you to fast road or Prodrive settings. I wouldn't go for the Prodrive springs though, I'd go for the Teins. They drop the car that bit lower than the prodrive ones do. Persoanlly, I'd go to Hypertech for the alignment.
  16. Just got these supplied and fitted at Hypertech. I thought the ride would be firmer with these, but they feel pretty close to the set up I had with the standard shocks and Tein lowering springs. Of course, they are adjustable and I haven't tried them out proper on the track yet. That said, they are night and day compared to the standard set up. Good luck with it mate.
  17. Hypertech in Bonnybridge for alignment. They also have the extra bit of kit that will allow the alignment gear to see below your front splitter. They'll fix it, they fix everything. Trouble is, they are closed till the 7th.
  18. The bullet cam idea is perfect for the car, due to its small small size making it easier to mount in small spaces. However, it can only be used for one thing, whereas a camcorder can be used for loads of stuff (not that I have the desire to record anything - but you never know). So I think I am going to go down the HDD camcorder route with one of those car-mount things that Andy mentioned. Thanks for the help and anyone who is at Knockers and is on-track when I'm not and wants a shot of the cam to record their laps, your welcome to it.
  19. Sell that car, and the rest of your cars (keep one for the wife) and one of your bikes (keep one for the thrill that it must provide) and buy a Newage. Oh, and welcome to the SIDC.
  20. Yes all fitted. It's going great guns! Can't wait till te next track day; if I live that long! Ha!
  21. Hmmm, that puzzles me! See, the quality of shooting is dependent upon the lens. Tape, hard drive or whatever, is just a place to store the video capture. The problem arises when the light coming into the lens (analogue data) is then converted into digital data for the sake of saving it onto a HDD. In digital recording (at least with sound) one must set the capture rate (snippets per second) and the bit rate (the quality of each captured snippet. In audio, a technique called Pulse Code Modulation is used). I say that to say this: perhaps the sample rate and bit rate can be ramped up to improve the quality. Then again, this would create much larger files and perhaps the camera's internals are not equipped to cope with the processing involved in capturing such large files. This means that the qulaity would suffer, but not on account of the lens. OK, what was all that about! I must be bored! I am bored. Thanks for the input though. and I think you are right about the camcorder direction... maybe! The camera kit above jsut seems to e so unassuming, and easy to put places, perhaps even attached to a crash hemlet. Can't do those sorts of things with a camcorder. Well you could but ... OK, I'm going now!
  22. This any good Andy?
  23. Hmmm that is very interesting! Really good quality too, perhaps the better option.
