  1. Should say performance is not affected so not losing boost pressure.
  2. Got the newage back on Wednesday after 11weeks while Bennetts played at being an accident repair garage. Had spun the car and hit the front and rear end. So bodywork and a new prodrive backbox. Car runs fine as it did before my bump, thing is when I accelerate hard I get a weird sucking noise only when hitting boost. Took the car to Ian Grieve and got the exhaust and turbo looked at to make sure nothing got damage when the exhaust was bent. Everything ok but they thought it was from the Intercooler/DV area, suggested the boost sensor pipe for my Defi guage. Last night returned the pipework to standard, still making it. Tonight stripped out the intercooler checked all the pipes all ok, refitted it checked and tightened all the clips and bolts, still making the noise. Have checked at the intake and hose and still can see anything. Problem is you hear nothing until boost so revving the car while under the bonnet shows nothing. Is there anything I have missed or any suggestion on how to locate it. Was thinking of getting a length of hose and taping it to different areas of the engine bay to hear where it is louder and hopefully narrowing it down. Last resort is a RR so I can hit boost with the bonnet open. You advice and knowledge would be much appreciated. Robert
  3. Think it all depends what you plan for the future. If your going big power then the best box possible. If it your not planning much I would probably go for a 2nd hand STI. Not an expert on this just don't see the point in spending more than you need.
  4. Type R is the way to go, I imported using SC Imports and all I had to do was collect the car(MOT, converted, tax'd was all done). If you are wanting a toy it might be worth buying something a little cheaper to leave you a budget for mods and upgrades. Trust me once you get a scooby you won't be able to help yourself thinking 'What next?'
  5. Don't have the car back yet but will post some pics when I get it. Might find the answer at the weekend going to try to look at a newage, not to buy just when I checked the car today the new bumpers look ok but felt and flexed like cheap copies. Also the rear had warped in the oven.
  6. Bashed the newage 9 weeks ago and garage has had it 8 1/2 weeks for repairs. Went to collect the car today and not happy so still getting done. While I was checking the car over, there appears to be a wire with a blank end hanging in front of the radiator. Don't know what it is for or if it is meant to be attached to anything. Think it should be clipped to something but what? It is in the space under the numberplate, just behind the centre part of the bumper. Thanks Robert
  7. I switched to Ian Grieve for servicing the Newage and no complaint. Always forund Charlie helpful.
  8. Had a great day, car was running well no issues. Good to see so many scoobies on track and in the carpark. Got a few tips from Terzo Neil (Thanks ) for next time, lines are ok just need to brake later. Car just needs more power and I really should get a set of track tyres. Anyone any pics of me?
  9. Just got the Type R back from Hypertech, 50k service, belts, tensioners and bearings, some other bits done including brakes and suspension. Top job and some good advice for the future. Even got free fitting on the whiteline goodies.
  10. So how much do you think it will knock off the value of our cars, the fact no one will want to buy them.
  11. If they up the tax on classics, i'll be £920 to run the 2 scoobs add £310 for the wifes car and i'm looking at £1220. Couple of years ago I would have been around £600 for 3 cars, banks and building societies would get invest if they raised their charges that much. Just remembered my car although a 1997 was registered in 2008 as imported so i am screwed. Think i'll be looking at a towbar and a trailer for the track car. Just checked my V5 and no CO2 figure detailed. Can they assume a figure and tax me?
  12. Getting some work done at Hypertech and Duncan discovered I have 294mm solid rear disc on the Type R. He has only come across one other Impreza that had these a couple of years ago. Just wondered if this was an upgrade option that Subaru Japan did? (Should say the car is a 555 V3 STI Type R) Only place to source these in the UK is Roger Clark Motorsport RRP £125 each , but Duncan is sorting a good deal for me. Should be all done and bedded in for Saturday.
  13. Great figures, I'll wave to you as you scream past me at KH on Saturday.
  14. Does that mean you'll be able to keep up with Scoobaroo on the runs. Saw the car at Hypertech the other day, is 20k on a standard clutch a record.
  15. Just used Evolutionice for a Viper alarm on the Type R. Viper 480 plus keyless entry for £275 Gav came to my work and fitted it in a couple of hours. www.evolutionice.com
  16. I used Ian Grieve when I had mine fitted and got the tracking checked at Barmill (FAI17's recommendation) , think I was just over the £300 but was getting the car serviced as well so not to sure.
  17. Just took delivery of my Version 3 STI Type R, used SC Imports (Chapman81) and have no complaints. Good thing was any car I was interested in at auction was checked before before any decision to bid was made. Eventually sourced a dealer car so still Jap MOT'd clean example with a few sensible mods.
  18. Well I went against the normal went for the PPP last May. SIDC secured a deal which saved you £400. Warranty was important to me this is my everyday car and I use it for business. You will be cheaper and get better results by going the mod and map route, but I couldn't wait another 2 years so got the PPP and prodrive springs. Car now makes 329/310 (with no additives) which are reasonable figures. As for mpg I saw a slight improvement but you are more tempted use the additional power so overall it's probably about the same.
  19. Don't know the one in Livingston but Xtreme Karting in Larbet is good was there in November and is in an industrial estate about 1 mile outside Larbet so cars would be safe, also might be more central. http://www.xtremekarting.co.uk/
  20. If you can wait its worth importing a car, much cheaper and better choice. My 1997 Version 3 STI Type R lands this week, was a dealer car not an auction 52k on the clock is costing around £5500. In your interested contact Chapman81 on here. Not had any dealings with either garage but check the grade of import and get the car checked properly. Robert
  21. Glad to see you getting back in the saddle. Silver is the best colour.
  22. I'm 36, 7 years n/c, 3 points in an 06 STI, PPP, prodrive springs and Defi's all covered. Insured for business - £500 from Keith Michaels.
  23. Just booked the Premierinn, late check-inn incase we are held up on the run and pub and restaurant next door. I know the camping will be good fun and a laugh, but a comfy bed after a long drive is the winner.
  24. Just noticed Banbury Premierinn has jumped up to £77.00 and Silverstone is fully booked. BTCC is at Silverstone 30/31 August. Probably worth booking or reserving hotels now if people dont want to camp.
  25. Phoned KM yesterday for a quote for the Type R, got hold of Gary straight away, less than 5 minutes to get the quote. Good price considering as its a second car and catback and suspension declared. Thank god for mirror policies had a quote from one of the main insurance companies £1270 as treated as having no no-claims as used on the current car.
