  2. Know the feeling getting a new toy especially a V3 STI. Stewart is a top bloke and finds good cars.

Bit of advice, might be worth changing the hoses. Duncan at Hypertech has seen a few imports that have had perished hoses recently mine being one.

Vaccum pipe broke and I ended up running without any boost control, great fun for a couple of laps of KH until the engine gave up.

    Enjoy the car.

  3. Contacted Flat4online today to see how long for a 2.5 engine, give the guy his dues quick reply and said usually 14 days to get his delivery.

Bought a strut brace a while back and got it in 2 days. But then have heard bad reports as well.

  4. Using the Falken FK452's on my track car and grip at the last KH (which was wet) was great. Haven't driven then in the dry as broke the car.

The 452's are Falken's performance tyre the other option is Presivo's which are if I remember rightly are Yokohama's budget range.

First time out so still trying to work out the best launch. Wasn't there til lunchtime as well and temp was 22.

Also probably a bit cautious, as the last word before I left in the morning were 'don't break this one we can't afford to repair two cars'.

Quite enjoyed today but still prefer going round corners.

  5. Looking at engine options and just wondered if there is any difference. Engine is a 2.5 STI short block £1750 from UK dealer, one for sale on pistonheads £1550 and import from US £1160 + import duty.

No plans for big power, max I would go to is around the 400 mark in the future. Original was aimimg for 350 with the 2.0L.

  7. Body warranty doesn't cover stone chips, when I got it done at S&S last year I asked as had a deep chip on the door pillar that had a touch of rust. Was advised this wasn't covered as it is purely paint defects. They did some undersealing which stank for a couple of weeks.

Think I was £100, don't think it affects the main warranty if you don't get it done.

  8. Thought I should post on this after the chat I had with Nanaki on the Highland Run. He was saying how once you get a scooby its hard to resist modding it and sensible thought leaves you. I said I had remain sensible and only added the PPP and Defi's to the STI9 in the 18 months I've had it.

He then reminded me I had gone down a completely different route to most people and bought another scooby and was in the process of modding that. Point taken I have lose rationality and sensible thought.

  9. Up for the trackday today car was running great, trying out a new set of Falken Performance Tyres.

Out for the warm-up, bit wet, so took the car easy as first time on in the wet since getting brake and suspension upgrade. Car felt good so back out after the warm-ups for 8 laps finding lots of grip and really enjoying it.

Second time out and managed to hook-up 4 or 5 good laps smooth through the corners and carrying better speed, actually passed a couple of cars which was a new experience.

Third time out car was going well but after 4 laps hear a small sound like a blow in the exhaust. Knew I had a blow in the up-pipe but was going to Meercat for a decat wednesday so was picking a new one then. Checked the car and sounded just like it was blowing a wee bit more. Let the car cool down and headed back out to see if ther was any change.

First lap took it very easy nothing different just a small noise, second lap bit faster was alright came off the hairpin and up the straight changed to fourth just after the pit lane and no power and major knocking, no smoke, temperature ok, so limped round and back to the pits.

Needless to say switched off and didn't start again. Staff at KH were great and towed me out to the carpark. Tried to organise recovery but the guys I could have got it done for nothing were busy and others were going to charge a packet.

Thanks to Nanaki who afford me the use of his AA card, luckily 2 weeks ago I noticed my bank account benefits offer free breakdown but only to a garage within 10 miles of the breakdown. Had chucked the leaflet in my glovebox and forgotten. So phoned asked if I could get it taken further, not a problem but there would be a charge. Truck arrive within the hour told him I wanted it taken to Hypertech in Bonnybridge, quick call to his office £19.67 which I thought was a good deal.

Arrived at Hypertech even better Duncan was in, so keys dropped of and was able to explain what happen.

Looks like a rebuild so will be putting a lung and kidney in the For Sale section.

Had a great day despite the engine good to meet Paul, Acid and the usual motley crew.

  10. Exhaust is a different bore I had a Peco S/S cat-back exhaust for a turbo, Motorsportworld used the flange from the standard and welded it to the 2.5 inch pipe. Think I paid £60 for the exhaust and £40 for the adaption.

Had thought about a scoop but quite liked it without.

  11. Right was out on Monday trying to detect the noise, length of garden hose, attached it to different parts of the engine but still can't find it. Have worked out it only happens at full boost. If I accelerate smoothly nothing, but under hard acceleration it comes in about 3,700 rpm all the way to redline.

    Any thoughts?

Thinking the only option would be a RR.
