Joe G Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Just got my road tax renewal through. £400!!! I have a 52 plate sti spec c. My car was first registered in december 2002, but was imported in december 2007. Looking at the DVLA website it says band G (below), for cars registered on or after 23/03/06 its £400 for the year. Is my car classed in this Band just because it was first registered in the UK after 23/03/06 ???? Because looking at the banding i would have thought mine falls in band F. Even though the co2 emissions are 325 according to my logbook. ANY IDEAS????? Band CO2 emission (g/km) 12 months rate 6 months rate A Up to 100 Not applicable Not applicable B 101-120 £35.00 Not applicable C 121-150 £120.00 £66.00 D 151-165 £145.00 £79.75 E 166-185 £170.00 £93.50 F Over 185 £210.00 £115.50 G Over 225 – for cars registered on or after 23/03/06 £400.00 £220.00
kloon Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) Seems a bit unfair if it's a '52 plate, however I think your right in thinking it because of the date of registration in the UK ? I've a '53 Plate WRX SL and this is what mine comes out at: Subaru Impreza Saloon (00-05) 2.0 WRX AWD Turbo SL 4d Rates effective from 13 March 2008 Date of Registration - 1 Jan 2003 – 1 May 2005 6 Months - £115.50 12 Months - £210.00 Band - F CO2 (g/km) - 219 Rates effective from April 2009 Date of Registration - 1 Jan 2003 – 1 May 2005 6 Months - £165.00 12 Months - £300.00 Band - K CO2 (g/km) - 219 Rates effective from April 2010 Date of Registration - 1 Jan 2003 – 1 May 2005 6 Months - £170.50 12 Months - £310.00 Band - K CO2 (g/km) - 219 Edited September 12, 2008 by kloon
mystery machine Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Hi, and welcome to the £400pa club Do bear this in mind next time you visit the polling station...
thewelsho Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Hi, and welcome to the £400pa club Do bear this in mind next time you visit the polling station... Yeah well, don't think for a minute that sleeze Cameron would make it any easier. Oh! An I am in NO WAY a fan of any government, as far as I am concerned, they all suck.
scouk Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Hate to say it but that sounds about right... The Taxations are from the UK registration date... not hte car date sadly... But then All us newages will be in the same boat next year £415 (from 210) At least all you blobs and hawks had a £300 stepping stone last year!!! And just incase there's some newbies on the go that don't know what were on about here my scribbles:
DR Motosport Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Feel sorry for you mate. I've got a 52 plate JDM STi (GL model not the spec C), but I imported it new in 2002 and it came in under the older SVA test, so my log book does not have a CO figure. Hence my road tax is £185.00 So we both have similar emissions, but mine was registered in the UK earlier I get cheaper road tax. I'm certainly not complaining at what I pay, but it doesn't make sense. David I can't believe I've had the same car for 6 years now. Just haven't found anything that's vastly better. Although I would take my mates Hawk-eye Spec -C ra
kloon Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) AL where does that table come from where the emissions for a WRX are 242g/km ? All the ones i've seen are 219 for a WRX and that's also whats on my V5 which I assume is what the DVLA will go by. Confusing stuff this ! Edited September 12, 2008 by kloon
DR Motosport Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Kloon, A bug-eye WRX has higher emissions (232 or 242) than a blob-eye WRX (219) David

The table came from the Document that was published at the Budget so is 100% accurate... Also the 242g/km is what it says for my WRX (Bugeye).. Admitedly other cars may vary but it was useful as a guide... DAmn annoying as at the last MOT the emissions test came back with 0.00% particles!! It's clean for the environment!!! Grrrr!!! mystery machine Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Yeah well, don't think for a minute that sleeze Cameron would make it any easier.Absolutely - that's just the problem with this kind of policy. Road tax, loss of civil liberties, etc... very easy to get to where we are now, but damn near impossible to reverse, because doing so isn't in the short-term interest of any government, future or present. These really are very insidious campaigns However, on principle I would never vote for any party who implemented something that I considered wholly unfair and objectionable. And if enough people are vocal about why their vote is going elsewhere, then it might make future governments think twice about further ludicrous road tax hikes. Worth a try, eh? Anyway, political rant over - like you say, they're all a bunch a' Armitage Shanks
scotsman Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I'm bloody lucky in that my bugeye was registered on the 2nd February 2001 - so just beats the higher tax brackets. Phew....
Joe G Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 Think ill go buy a de-cat pipe!! Might as well get my moneys worth
jimser Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 mines is due this month too first registered in japan dec 01 imported in jan 08 £185 for the year

I canny see there being a u - turn on this policy, but we can but live in hope! If this policy was based on saving the environment, they would stop cars over a certain CO2 being sold altogether, but it's purely a cash milking exercise. Also some higher perfomance cars with double CO2 of scoob costing several time more still pay £400 well fair not!

mikeyb13 Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 mines is due this month too first registered in japan dec 01 imported in jan 08 £185 for the year He He, me too, glad I bought a classic now Spitting out petrol, CO2 and flames all the way to the post office
Joe G Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 Got word back from the DVLA today after asking about my road tax. Basically because the car was imported and registered in the UK after 23/03/06, its classed in the highest tax bracket, regardless of the car being a 52 plate. Pretty pish if you ask me!!
stevenhiggster Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I've got a MY97 STi but it was only registered in this country in feb 08, but my road tax in july there was only 185. I hope I don't get stung for anymore next year as I can hardly afford to run the thing as it is!
amac14 Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Thought I'd give everyone an early morning laugh at my expense... was sure i had escaped these massive tax increases as i have a Classic but oohhhh no turns out after reading this thread & checking DVLA site Darling & Brown have got me too, my car was registered on... get this... the 1st of March 2001. Could i be anymore unlucky... yes probably but looks like I'll be joining the £400+pa club with most of you & to add injury to insult so will my Dad with his Bugeye wagon. Thanks all for the useful info on this & the heads up, time to start saving
P1_Paul Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) mines is due this month too first registered in japan dec 01 imported in jan 08 £185 for the year Hi Jim, Your car is less than 10 years old and so should have gone through an e-SVA test, meaning it has to conform to a model report. If it was done this way, i.e. correctly, you'd be paying more than £185 a year!? Who imported it and how/where did he get it registered/tested? As for the OP, to confirm, it is the year of registration in the UK that counts. My importer managed to put my car through with the date registered as the Japanese registration date, as such, this year I was only £210. Bit dodgy I think, but I'm not complaining. Cheers, Paul Edited September 17, 2008 by P1_Paul

mystery machine Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Wish mine had no co2 number For all G. Brown and his cronies care, it might as well have '666' stamped across it
scoobykev Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 So am i right in thinking, that any impreza imported now regardless of it being a classic or newage is going to be hit with the £400 per year tax?
