z1000 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Never rated jap cars when i had manta and old beemers but the missus wanted a scoob so found a totally standard uk 2000 wagon with farmer bump strips, took it out and thought f**kin hell how can a car that looks so plain and costs not that much go and handle like that ! Last april she said she was bored so found an @03 STi PPP with lots of goodies, an hour later in carlisle and that was that a bit deeper in debt but grinning a lot more. Now i've done a couple of trackdays the modding bug has bit and my wallets starting to feel light but what the hell your only here once.
david_taylor Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 on the way to Crainlarigh. Where's that dtabbit77 Lol ! Possibly Crianlarich []? [] Nobody likes a smart ass!! LOL![:$]
oobster Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Due to me never being allowed onto parents insurance @ 17 (unlike all my mates) I had to take out insurance on my own. So had a succesion 1-litre cars (mini - rolled it. metro - smashed it in edinburgh. fiat panda - someone ran into the back of it, Citroen AX - ran into the back of someone, Fiat Cinquecento - ex-fiance ran into the back of someone).[:S] Plus, since i started driving in the late 80's i've had 12 points (or maybe 15 - not sure) - definitely 9 for speeding and 3 for a bald tyre when i was 18. So - insurance has always been a nightmare for me, but when it came time for Dawn & I to get married it was discussed that we would want to trying for kids fairly soon after the wedding. Once the kiddies came along it would then be time to be sensible + pennies would be short, so Dawn & I decided last March that it would be the best time to get some sort of performance car while I had the chance. Looked at a Seat Leon Cupra R, test-drove a brand-new Civic Type R but decided it would have to be the scooby ten seconds into test driving it. []
sheep Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I got mines because i got pissed one night and bought a 16 foot canadian canoe from ebay and then thought how the f@ck am i going to fit that on the roof of my mini cooper.[] So i told my self i would get a sensible estate car but couldnt do it so i bought the scoob.[] And now i have a great time using them both.

lv-426 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Became aware of Impreza in 94 with 'Crasher' McRae, who frequently tried to create a hatchback from a saloon (sooo ahead of the subaru boys & their plans for 2008 []), so toddled off to dealer for a test drive & couldn't get grin off my face due to the acceleration & handling. Saved a few pennies & got a classic in 98, which I loved, only replacing it with a new STi this year, which whilst still being a bit basic, has a lot more as 'standard' than the classic had (although what's with that strange slot in the ICE unit ? someone said it was for a thing called a 'cassette' - I thought it was to plug in an iPod [] Still love the acceleration & handling, as any fool can drive at 70 mph, but it's how quick you get there & how you get round the bends that is where the fun is [H]
cullenmin Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I always wanted a fast car that looks good, so I went out and got one![H] Rich
iain_spink Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 1) The looks. Having owned lots of Mk1 and 2 RS escorts, 2 Lotus Sunbeams and a TVR I never really had much of a thing for Jap cars - until the 22B came out, then my attitude changed! Bought mine in December (my first Scoob) and I absolutely love it. Its the car I've always wanted. 2) Its more practical than a TVR Re the noise, sure it sounds ok but IMO it doesn't come near the sound of my previous motor, a 4litre, V8 TVR 400se with a full wedge automotive sports exhaust. A truly awesome noise, I'll miss it. (sold on sunday)
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 The Burble, 4WD, Turbo combination...........had a CTR before my Scooby as i was doing 350 miles a week at the time. I then buckled and the bank account has taken a hit for the team ever since [] It was primarily my Dad who got me into them when he bought a brand new classic and the 90's ( aftre having the Sport version for all of 5 months !!) Cal
Hepy Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I don't have it anymore, but I bought my P1 because I think the 2 door Imprezas look the best, and it was only 21 grand. I couldn't afford a new one, so had to wait a year and a half for a price drop. £32000 for a scoob is a bit much.
shaun_odonnell Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Saw the P1 on Top Gear back in 2000 or 2001 and decided,"Havin one of those". It's the first Subaru I've bought, drove and even been in. I knew it was going to be amazing so didn't need a test drive. First time I drove it was when I brought it home from Mackay Trading in Edinburgh, in rush hour traffic!!!! Scary experience in a unfamiliar car. Never looked back since though, Love it.
scooby222 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 i still remember flicking through the pages of top gear magazine back in 94 and seeing an impreza for the first time, saw the scoop and huge foglights and knew i wanted one even though i was only 15. then i started following the adventures of a certain scotsman ( took the afternoon off school to watch him win the title []) and then one of my dads mates bought a brand new one complete with full prodrive interior and one trip in that really sealed it. back then ever7yone thought i was mad wanting a japanese performance car, o how times change! 5 years a mk1 golf and 306 td later i was the proud owner of a brand new my00 in deep blue mica, followed by another and now an05 sti. i really cant imagine having anything else though god knows ive looked!
