thefastone Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Dale i'll have more time for meets, runs etc very shortly as nearly finished renovating my old house for sale, thats whats keeping me busy at the mo Oh, is that what your up to, I thought it was the new one that you were doing like... [Y] And Guys, hes Coming to scotland and the only beer you can think to recomend is TENNEANTS? You might as well tell him to get some carling doon his neck!!!! [+o(]
nanaki Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 please also remember, that as an american what he knows of as beer is in fact a lager and a real beer would probably shock his system. Might be tempted to go out tomorrow. Not sure.
gogsie Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Jacob, I'm a bit partial to Belhaven Best or Belhavens Rabbie Burns Ale (Not so easy to get these days). Need to declare a possible conflict of interest though as the wife works for Belhaven Brewery and the fact I get it free may influence my taste buds. Can't always trust a scotsman on whats a good beer though as they are all good! Along with Whisky, Rum, Vodka, Gin, Wine, Etc. I mean the West coasters even enjoy Buckfast - You get the idea! Now that would be an experience you wouldn't forget - a night on the Buckfast. Well you may well forget but everyone else would be sure to remind you. Have a great time.
micra_wrc Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 bump for the evening users. spoke to Jacob today and things are set. anyone else free for a run and scooby-chat tomorrow night in/nr Edinburgh? 1 - imy 2 - squirrel 3 - sti bandit 4 - ally-b 5 - kart-man 6 - craigwrx
st3ph3n Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Cannae make it [] Got to be in the west at 7ish for a 10 minute appointment and there's not a chance I can light up the afterburners and go east in time.
dan_jess Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Thats a good point, but i left home in January, the beer in Japan and Thailand was good but this Aussie beer is horrible! I cant wait for a freezin cold Tennents in my local! []
micra_wrc Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 craig, i'm trying to arrange when squirrel, ally and I should meet but likely to be leaving Govan (jn 24) around 1815. Can you and Jim judge when to leave so we can rendez vous en-route? otherwise, we'll just meet up at Hermiston Gait - as near to the entrance of the retail park as possible that has a good parking spot for initial photos.
STi_Bandit Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Imy, Park outside Halfords that way ill spot you's, I would suggest as a photo opp we then move the cars round to the new hermiston gate rail station, lovely structure to provide a back drop. that or the gyle office complex there a few buildings in there that could provide a nice back drop. Bandit
micra_wrc Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 ok, spoken like the architect that you are []
JMelt4 Posted September 28, 2006 Author Posted September 28, 2006 Wooo, got into Edinburgh last night and stayed in the world's worst hostel. If you've seen the toilet scene in "Trainspotting", it was like that but maybe worse and definitely dirtier. We're staying around the corner now at a much cleaner place, thank goodness. Anywho....I called up STi_Bandit and left a message, so hopefully my girlfriend Molly and I will be able to get out to the rendevous point tonight! If nothing else, we'll take a taxi! True that American beer generally is horrible, but in the past five years we've had a lovely little renaissance of micro-breweries that make some top shelf ales, porters, lagers, etc. My roommates and I make our own beer, so the only person to blame for a bad pint is ourselves! See y'all tonight! -Jacob
RA Dunk Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 another request for tennants!! the muts nuts of lagers [H] or ya could try budweiser but that would be like taking sand to the beach []
4Hero Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 that or the gyle office complex there a few buildings in there that could provide a nice back drop.Bandit stop stealing my ideas bandit [] Have a good night guys, it's my wifes birthday and I promised I would stay in and cook her a nice meal, or else I would have been there []
dave_morgan Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I'm afraid my buggy is neither classic or newage, as the P1 sold last week. I'll be in my new toy! I'm 50/50 on making it however, as I have a meeting to fit into tonight at some point, with some bods who have flown up from London to see me. I can either make the 7 o'clock rendezvous, or somewhere later, but not both, or the run being realistic. Any decisions made on the after run venue? Dave
oobster Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Me & the Mrs will PROBABLY attend tonight for a short while - will either meet up @ Halfrauds @ Hermiston Gait around 7pm (?) or will text/call craigwrx.
micra_wrc Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 it will be brill if you and Dawn can make it Andy - your car is a yummy example of SS [] the weegies will try and be there for 1900 but it may be nearer 1930 by the time we get through the rush hour traffic.
oobster Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 ....your car is a yummy example of SS [] LOL - no the now it isn't! It's filthy. Cheers though [Y]
Dougie C Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Well how did the meet go this evening? Anyone back yet from the meet/run. Hope you all had a good time. Dougie
ally-b Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 A good time was had by all [] We had a run and then a meal and a chat . It was nice to meet a couple of enthusiasts from across the pond . Jacob and Molly I hope you both had an enjoyable evening . I hope the rest of your holiday goes well - keep in touch via Scottish Scoobies . Well done to Imy and Martin for organising this tonight [Y] Al.
nanaki Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Yeah it was a good night. The run was fun, nice roads those... pity about the other traffic. Food was great and as always squirrels banter had us all wondering if we should phone the people with the funny white jackets...[] Anyways it was great to see some of you again, and some of you for the first time (mainly our two new american friends) Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your holidays and keep in touch. P.s Getting back to Kilmarnock when they close the Kingston Bridge is not fun!!!!! [O]
fai17 Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Welldone...i'd loved to been there but you know me...work , work and more fu*king work
dave_morgan Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Nice to meet you Jacob and Molly. Sorry I couldn't stay longer, but my work is mental just now. Good for the bank balance, but not so good for sanity!!! Was good to see a few faces though and I'll hopefully catch up with you all soon. Cheers, Dave
micra_wrc Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 it was a good night, was nice meeting Jacob and Molly and chatting about what the scoobie scene is like in the States (not as good as here in the UK[]). The run was fun - thanks to Bandit for working that out. I think Jacob liked the RA's acceleration [Y] Food was good too but have to say that the traffic lights on the sequence of roundabouts at that bypass are crazy - they are green long enough to let 2 cars through.... not good if you are in a 7 car convoy [*-)] The drive home took longer than normal - they had closed the M8 in two places, i think they were cutting the grass lol kartman, squirrel was well taken with your new car []
