johns Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Well, the weather was fantastic again today as always at Alford, and we had a great turn-out of cars. The day was a huge success, with everyone seeming to enjoy themselves hugely, and quite a few will be nursing some sunburn tonight. Firstly, a huge word of thanks to those who helped make the day all possible: Grampian Transport Museum for having such a great venue that we can use for our annual event. Ken and Catherine for helping me set-up everything yesterday afternoon. Rosie and Imy for doing such a fantastic job at the gate! Spooks, Ken, Rob, Jools (plus his boys!) and the others who helped out with the marshalling, timekeeping, collecting and setting up the PA system. Spooks and Rosie for bring up the banners and flags etc. Rich from Polished Bliss for offering lots of advice on cleaning and looking after your car, and offering everyone a 10% discount on the day off their normal prices. Rich also did the judging for the show and shine competition as well, which was very close between about 4 cars, and it was down to fine details differences between them to identify the winners. THe standard was exceptionally high this year! All the owners of the cars, for having them look so fantastic, and for many making a long journey to get there. Hopefully you'll have founf it well worth the effort to get there. And lastly for all of you who stayed behind at the end to help us tidy up the area, putting away the fencing etc. Fastest time of the day on track went to Rob Doyle driving Jools' car, with a 64.3 second run towards the end of the day. We've raised an amazing total of £730 for the Santa Cruise fund [][] We've also raised enough (£320 after deducting the PA hire costs) from the track participants to completely fund next year's event, and go a long way toward the cost of hiring the official timing equipment for next year, which will mean next year's event will also be free [] This is despite the huge increase in insurance costs to run this event. We look forward to seeing everyone there again next year, for an even bigger and better event. I'm sure there will be lots of excellent photos and videos to come [] John

micra_wrc Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 didnt know which thread to post on as there are soo many Alford threads on the go at the moment. it was a long day for us but the time just flew past. set off at 0530 and was glad that Squirrel was driving on the way up, i fell asleep between Dundee and Aberdeen [8-)] we took the 'scenic' route on the way home, went over the Cairngorms, stopped off at Braemar for a bite to eat and carried on through Glenshee. The conditions were perfect for driving, coaches/caravans seem to have settled down for the night and we had a clear run from Braemar to Blairgowrie, with all four wheels off the deck at one point [] JohnS - thanks for organising this event, from the track set up to PA system and even down to the collection buckets you provided. Looking forward to attending next year [] Craig Mac, Dipsy, Wuz and the rest of the Abn lads i spoke to - it was nice to finally meet you all.
