johns Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Those of you who come along to the monthly Aberdeen meets will alrady know about this one. I'm putting on a performance car show as part of the Kintore Summer Festival on Saturday June 3rd. Starting at about 12pm. The idea is that we'll have a selection of cars (not just Subaru's) on display for about an hour os so, allowing people to look around them, ask questions etc. Then, in exchange for donations to charity (I'll print tickets/receipts etc), memebers of the public can go for a short 5 minute passenger ride in the car of their choice around the town. Everything will be done at strictly speed limits or below, so there will be no showing off of driving skills, people taking risks etc. It's just to give people the chance to say that they were a passenger in X, Y or Z at the weekend, get some photos taken etc. We'll do this for another hour or so, depending on demand. I'm looking for a few volunteers to have their cars as part of this show. a) It won't cost you anything to take part You'll be helping to raise money for charity (most likely Northsound Radio's Cash for Kids appeal) c) There is a chance you might get some free food (nearby BBQ) d) You must be willing to take passengers out if requested. I live just 5 minutes walk from where the show will be taking place, and can offer people facilities to wash/dry their cars etc if wanted, and also as a place to meet up. Interested, or know anyone with a performance car who might be interested, then please send me an email on john@sidc.co.uk Cheers John
dan_jess Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Certainly is a show with a difference. Very good idea, shud raise plenty of cash []
paul_honthy Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Sounds like a good idea mate, hope it goes well with plenty of support.
WUZ Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 John - if you need a spare car to do this, I am sure that Mark (Power Junkie) can get a hold of my car and take it up there. It is for charity after all. Russell
Power Junkie Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 John - if you need a spare car to do this, I am sure that Mark (Power Junkie) can get a hold of my car and take it up there. It is for charity after all. Russell Im Sure I could do that Russell, All for a good cause []
ken555 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Should be around if needed. But can only manage 1 person at a time.
P1 NUT Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 PLEASE BE AWARE THAT UNLESS YOU HAVE INSURANCE COVER FOR HIRE OR REWARD YOUR POLICY WILL NOT COVER YOU IN THE EXTENT OF AN ACCIDENT EVEN ALTHOUGH IT IS GOING TO CHARITY.
johns Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 It's OK, we've got that angle covered and checked [] None of the drivers taking part will be accepting any money or gifts in any way, nor will they receive any compensation or reward of any sort. People will be voluntarily donating money to a charity, and there will be no contract (implied or otherwise) in place to take people out in any car. Their receipt will simply thank them for making a donation to charity. John
Keith CSL Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 really looking forward to this, where about is the show John?
johns Posted May 29, 2006 Author Posted May 29, 2006 Keith, it's in the car park of the medical centre, just 50 yards from the Town Hall. On your right as you go up Forest Road. See you there. John
Keith CSL Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 No probs, can confirm that we will take both cars down. What time will be there for?
clutdav Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Hopefully I'll see you guys there at somepiont as it is only down the road from me. Dave
P1 NUT Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Reason I say this is because i was at a motorsport show on the isle of bute and there were guys with their supercars there doing exactly the same thing, taking people out in their cars for a donation to chaity. Anyway one of the boys crashed his tvr 350c on the public roads and had a passenger on board from this charity event and he was done with no insurance which = disqualification. I don't think it matters who is the recipient of the money it is the purpose of raising money that the cars are being used for. Just wouldn't want anyone to get into bother.
philip_wilson Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 look like its going to be nice weather for this one. looking forward to meet more of you SIDC boys and girls

johns Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 The more the merrier [] If you do come along, please be aware that there will be lots of kids running around the streets etc, so please drive very carefully. John
