Message from Kate

All,

There are many of us on here who knew Paul very well, and it with much sadness that I have to let you know that he died last night after being involved in a RTA. It?s been a long hard night for Kate stuck offshore on the 706, but she will be home soon.

Paul lived life to the full and moved from fast Subarus, in particular his spectacular ?Mad P1? (as I always called it) to fast bikes.

Details are sketchy at this time (and I feel pretty much irrelevant) but the initial info we have is that a vehicle crossed his path, resulting in an instant fatality.

Kate is getting into Aberdeen this morning, where I will be meeting her and taking her the Police station at Queen Street thereafter. More details when I get them.

Still can?t believe it.... face-icon-small-sad.gif

Very very sad news indeed.

Paul was a much loved and respected member of the SIDC, and was well know for his involvement on the TDE events, the first Isle of Man event, numerous country runs both with Imprezas and Elises, and of course countless track events at Knockhill.

Paul really did live life to the full, and he will be very sadly missed.

RIP Paul.

Im deeply saddened by this terrible news. Our thoughts and love are with you Kate at this sad sad time.

I have known Paul for a number of years, ever since my first Subaru when I was taken in under the wing of the Aberdeenshire branch of the SIDC. I will never forget my first meet at Alford when Paul (in his legendary P1) was storming round the track, he then led the way on a terrific run that afternoon. Since then I have attended many meets, runs and shows with Paul and the gang, each time there was a memorable moment! I will never forget how kind he was to me when my dad died, he always had a kind word to say to me in my moments of need. Right now Im pretty lost for words.

I will never forget the moments we shared Paul, RIP buddy.

JESUS! - I saw him about 4 months ago and still laugh at the times that we all had at the "old school" SIDC runs. Boy did he love to drive that P1!

He will be sorely missed.

How does everyone available feel about attending the funeral? (after getting clearance from Kate) as I know he loved Scoobs and bikes and I think the more there to remember him, the better!

Just a brief update (being careful not to say anything that may affect the outcome a future court case).

It appears that due to the lack of skid marks on the road and witness reports, Paul didn't have any time to react to the accident, and hit the passenger side of the Camper Van that turned across his path. Paul was in no way to blame for the accident.

his loss seems to have deeply affected alot of people.

i didnt know him, but I think i remember him and his P1 at kh when i had my scooby.

if he didnt have time to react, he knew nothing about it and so didnt suffer.

as kate mentioned in her post, he was doing what he loved to do.

hopefully these 2 things will help ease your pain.

all the best to u all,

Took Kate into the Police Station where we formally identified Paul. Paul is at rest, but it seems all so so unreal. As John says above Paul was riding past the junction when a Campervan pulled across his path.

Info from accident scene is that he wasn?t going hard, but didn?t have time to react to the situation. He had actually past a police car a few miles prior to the accident and they report that his riding was what they regard as normal.

Visibility at the junction is good and there are no marks on the road. Conditions at the time were dry, with good light and little wind. Lots of bits and pieces from his repsol coloured 6 month old Fireblade on the verge when you look hard, apart from that nothing at all.

Cause of death has to be established by the Police and then Kate can move forward and make plans for funeral arrangements which we expect to be well into next week now. I took some photos back to the Police Station on Kate?s behalf and the press statement will be released this afternoon by Grampian Police.

I have passed on info on the messages of support from Tut, Simon, John, Ken, Toby, KeithP, BKS to mention but a few.

Kate is grateful for the support so far and coming to terms with the last 20hrs of her life. It is actually her birthday today face-icon-small-sad.gif

I only met Paul once during a run down from Aberdeen to an SIDC Track Day. I've always remembered that day as it was the first where Paul and Jools were on track together. Seeing the 'Mad P1' and Newage going hammer and tong around the circuit has always been one of my favourite Knockhill memories. I seem to remember it as my first track day and it's never been bettered since.

I don't have access to all the pictures of Paul that day as i'm offshore myself but here's one i did manage to find. How i remember Paul.

Even though it was brief encounter the stories of Paul became the stuff of legend at the Aberdeen SIDC meets, i for one don't think i'll ever forget him. Goes to show how much of an impression one person can make on another in a single day.

RIP

Carl,

Thanks for that post and picture. Goes to show the trust I had in Paul. Riding shot gun with Paul and I that day were my two sons. Finlay (7 at the time) is in with me and Sinclair (9 at the time) is in the Mad P1 with Paul.

I was talking to young Keith tonight about that very track event and how we went out and had fun that day. Brings back happy memories.

Also reminiscing tonight about the runs we did up the west coast of Scotland all the way to John O Groats and back.

Paul was well before my time at the SIDC but he sounds like someone who lived his life in the best possible manner - doing what he loved. A real tragedy for all involved.
