Does it really matter what one forum does diffirent to another, ultimatly who cares.

We are all enthusiasts that enjoy subarus in one form or another, some are into driving them some are into showing them off, doesnt make one person better or worse than the other for being into there own thing.

I do think some folk on here need to take the stick out there arse and chill out, opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one. Just because you dont agree on something doesnt been the ban stick has to come out, yes there should be boundaries/ limits etc.

I used to think sidc was up its own arse when i first joined but now after meeting a few members and going to a couple of meets ive realised that to not be the case.

Lets concentrate on how to make it THE subaru club.

Well I am on 5 subaru forms and this was he first one that I joined and payed for a membership was told to come on hear from Gavin from Ian grieves when I purchase bryan m red sti hatch when I joined about 5 people seid hello and that was it seen you's did track days at knockhill so came down from north off aberdeen and no one even Spock to me

Then I found out about ss.net interjused my self and had 5 pages off hellows back lot off nice people over there went down to a meet at knockhill and the one off the boys interjused me to every one made me feel welcome

I have been piping on and off hear all the time been tempted to one off your track days so I desided befor doing s track day I would go to the highland fling this'd year got up to Inverness and all you boys were there and no one even seid hello so I went home

It would be good if all the subaru clubs in Scotland could get together and do meets track days together

i did the highland fling for the first time this year aswel. Never done any track days either but went to the last knockhill one aswel.

up at inverness . There was the odd few people i know from down edinburgh glasgow are that ive met before. But there was loads of new faces that i hadnt met before or seen had no idea who they were and they were from more up north . I got chatting to a few of the new people at the inverness car park. But was also taking pics. Then over the next few days got to meet the 9thers to and chatting to them . Got home and added them on facebook as i had an idea who they were by that point. And thats me being on here 3 years.

Same with the knockhill trackday . Few new faces i didnt know but i said hi. Names bigfelly .i drive this . Good to meet you. Etc etc.

theres been a couple local meets too and if theres been a new person there ive tried chatting to them talked about the club asked them about thier car and themselves and introduce them to the other members. Was like cat whos a newish member on .net she turned up to one of the edinburgh runs . And had a good wee blether with her and intr9duced her about.

hut does take alot to go up to a group of people and say hi im etc etc.

but then also for the current groups to spot a new face or someone they dont know and just go say hi are you here for the meet or the run.

Burnett I can but apologise for the lack of reception you recieved, sad that you didnt come over and introduce yourself - I can hand on heart say your the first person to experience this on the fling, there were several other guys who came along this year for the first time and all have promised to come back as they were made to feel so much at home. You must have left quite early as you obviously didnt come forward to sign on when I requested.

And as for the nature of inter club co operation I more than extended the invitation on .net, including clarifying the position with Eddie, who was very helpful, but sadly no one was interested in coming and saying hello.

I've written this in defence of my personal event, which I have nurtured specifically to encourage people to interact with new and old friends alike, any other comments are just beyond my ability to care - I have a subaru to drive it as it was meant or as my meagre abilities allow, to meet up with other people I get on with - shockingly I dont get on with every single person on this forum, amazing isnt it, but hey thats life.

Now can we put all this crap to bed and remember that we're celebrating the passing of a club legend, a man respected and mocked for his dedication to going fast and screw anything that got in his way - and what better way than to take that lesson and run with it

When a first got my classic a few years back (now upgraded to a blob) a got told by my mate to join here so I did. Put a newbie thread up as a was new to the whole scooby thing and car club thing and got a a very little response. So thought nothing of it and posted a few threads up of help and advice and got no answersband eventually a lost intrest what was a shame.

So a year or two on found a guy racing an evo and yes he wooped him a met him and he told me about ss.net and a joined and when a signed up had 4/5 pages of welcomes and plenty of advice and help when posting for advice and help. I have done alot to my car through the help and advice from them. My friend on here lost intrest as he said no one talked much to him when he put up threads and been to a few meets but no one talking. Tryed to speak to a few but no convo. I hàve started to come back on and look about again and hopefully its all changed. Just my 2ps worth.

It seems a reocuring thi g with the new folks and lack of replys. Threads get alot of views but litle replys. I recently ranted in quite a long post about it as it eventualy got to me when i hadnt been on for about a week and just by chance checked the new members section and saw someones introduction post had a shed load of views but not one reply saying welcome. I was the first person to reply and say welcome and his tbread had been there for a week. It peed me off and still does when i see the same 5-10 people saying hj and welcome to newbs and thats it. But the post views will say alot more

I wasn’t going to post on this thread but after some extra coffee this evening and the fact it seems to have moved past the earlier cp, here is my 2 pence worth.

I guess the original question relates to ss.net and the Scottish Scoobies section of the SIDC. Firstly I don’t think ss.net and this place are a direct comparison. We are a section within a UK club, with a name which gives the impression of a club aimed at overseas owners. Ss.net are a Scottish club. A new owner looking for a Scottish club will find .net, not this place.

Why also ask the question and then slag off the very person who can tell us!

I can’t compare .net as I have not been on there for a long time. I tried to log in today and couldn’t, requested a new password but apparently my user name didn’t exist. Registered again with the same user name and I can’t get past the introductions section which I think is a feature of the site. Personally, I can’t be ersed with that so I still haven’t been on recently.

There is more to the club than the forum but the forum is the ‘shop window’ of the club. When I joined the club there was great banter on here, now I feel there is a lot of c%&p and I do see a bit of trolling. Anyone who trolls should have their account deleted, no questions asked, no second chance. In terms of welcoming people, a designated new members section for the Scottish area may help get more replies. I am guilty of not going in the general new members section. Just searched out my first ever post in 2006 were I introduced myself within the main Scottish section. I got 18 ‘welcomes’ but the thread had 501 ‘views’. Bring back the ‘was it you’ for the Scottish area too. Having to sign up to read the forum my encourage people to go on and post. Are the thread ‘views’ actually real people or just bots?

Can there be a Scottish SIDC page on Facebook? Ok, it might take away from the forum but it could be good for the club.

I don’t get the unfriendliness at meets. I have never experienced it. When I joined, I knew no one at my first meet so turned up and introduced myself to everyone that was there. I didn’t lurk about and wait to get spoken to. Again, at this year’s Fling (the first one I had been to) there were lots of people I hadn’t met and the only way to get to know them is to chat to them. Everyone was friendly. The Fling is everything that is great about this club. Great roads, great banter, everyone rallied around those with problems to help whether it be with water, tape or fire extinguishers! Baz cleared my engine management light for me. You get out what you put in! There are a lot of great people in this club.

In terms of inter club relationships in Scotland, can there not be a overall Scottish RO or ‘Scottish area’ committee member in addition to the current ROs etc that can be a contact for other clubs, rather than approaches getting ‘lost in translation’ with down south?

Perhaps there could be a Scottish Subaru meet arranged across all the clubs where we can all share our common interest and have a big cuddle?

My car might only be a near standard WRX, all be it one which has always gone very well, but the reason I have it, is to drive it. And the runs I have been on with this club have been immense! So most of all however, let’s just enjoy these fantastic cars we have and get out and drive them how they were meant to be driven. After all, as Dave says, it's a drivers club!

I might even go and renew my membership now.

Personally, I don't know what you're all complaining about! At least you lads up there HAVE a community! Down here, its like a millpond for adult conversation and banter around scoobs. Its all chavved classics and backward caps down here! Unless there's a community I've missed. Be grateful you have a community to be protective/envious/whatever over, cos it could be a lot worse!

Lol. I've been posting threads about it. Had at most 2 replies I think? There doesn't seem to be many people down this way. But this isn't really 'subby territory.' Still, there might be more around now we've started getting regular snow down this way.

They have waaaaay too many bloody topics and replies each day on their forum so ye can never follow what the hell is going on - can't find topics from the day before, and using the view new content button runs to pages. I basically find the forum too busy.

(edit) Oh aye - and they told me I had to change my username cos it was too much like an already existing one.

To be completely honest it's a combination of everything. There was pi$$ing contest when I joined this frum in 2003 and there always has been.

There has been splits and splinter groups, verbal wars and sabre rattling by regions and even threats if "I'll meet you in such and such a carpark and kick your Kant. In tec"

Clubs always get that, even the shandy drinking poofters from the TVR club who we toyed with for a while.

Why has popularity waned?, as said before the day of the 4x4 rice rocket are over, they have been priced out and the popularity replaced by another brand.

Me and Gumball were best friends but we used to fight like cat and dog over scoobies.

We used to wind people up just to get a reaction, at the time it was funny and the club was strong enough to soak that up but now maybe we are feeling the product of that who knows

The fact is that you are going to struggle to get it all back, the big subaru thing is now f***ed, you need to consolidate and accept it.

Old scoobies are now cheap for people who couldn't afford them in the past, even though running them is not cheap. Hence the swing to the boy racer, audio brigade.

The internal power struggles didn't help nor do the constant changing official oersonnel

Be bold or be disappointed. This is all my personal opinion so take it or leave it. :-)

Some really good points Wilky. The days of jap 4x4 is far from over, infact I'd say reviving. I think its due to the point you made about afordability for younger drivers now, hence they're enjoying everything you guys did 10years ago.

.net seems to be less moderated, thus more friendly to younger banter. I'm guessing .net average age is similar to what SIDC was when it was in its prime, therefore typical of the laughs you & Chris used to have?

Question for the original members. Do you see similarities between the present .net, and how SIDC used to be?

I don't think I have ever been on SS but for me I stopped posting on here as much about a year ago. Very difficult to put my finger on why other than it had very little appeal. I had been a member for a number of years and always tried to help with technical queries as well as using my project thread give others ideas and take feedback from those who were interested.

Threads like the one below, as an example, do not do the site or club many favours, I read it and thought oh dear! Maybe I am just getting old but it really didn't seem appropriate.

I also disagree with the idea of not being able to sell items unless a member, I understand the reasoning and the logic. But for me personally it was the main reason to switching off to SIDC. If I have things to sell as I upgrade or mod the RA I use 22b and scoobynet. Yes you have to be a member on scoobynet as well but the exposure and potential to buy and sell is infinitely better than on here. In the past I had sold many pretty decent parts to local members and have given away many items as well but hey thems the rules as they say.

For me the only thing that interests me now is the track days that Baz started and also the excellent work that John S does with the knockhill track days, they provide an excellent opportunity for people to get out and push their cars in an environment where the dangers to the cars and drivers are minimised. I havnt been able to use them for the last couple of years as the rebuild of he RA has gone a bit wrong but I will be using them next year as they provide excellent testing. But its not enough to make me rejoin.

A service and the discount at Ian Grieves may tho lol.

In my opinion the fun police have moved into SIDC and over regulated it. Its nothing to do with the cost of running these cars or the economy. Take a trip over to 22B and see it thrive as well as scoobynet.
