i had a thread in the for sale section

Recommended Posts

Yeah I know I can buy and sell after myself being a tightwad of owning my Subaru for 5 years I finally became a paid up one it just shows you thar it must have been non members who used this section more as there's been hardly anything in it for ages!

I've no real gripe about the club people etc I like going to meets if possible club days kaimes etc it's just been really quite in all aspects of late!!

Also like to add if it wasn't for a good few people on here I found thru bring a member( unpaid at the time) my car would be in a bigger state than it is!!

ok, as someone who voted in the committee election and completed the survey i'll have a little say.

I was one of the members who raised the point about member benefits in the survey. All members had was one extra thread (and it was mainly full of 'hi i'm ..... i've just paid up' threads) and true grip. At the time membership was £35 and being up here in the frozen north there aren't a lot of places where the members discount is available - unless you are willing to drive for hours which is pointless. Scoobynet and .net both have the same rule about members only being able to post in for sale/wanted sections.

I know from discussions with ScoUK and ScoobyDoom before the committee vote took place that there were issues with funding the club and the guys who were up for committee posts had plans to sort this. Hopefully these changes will encourage long standing users of the forum to become full members. From what i've read and been told there will be more coming out after the AGM and hopefully the way forward will be clear for everyone.

My membership is up in about 7 days and will be getting renewed.

I want to see this club grow, not disappear in petty squabbles.

Totally agree about the shows etc Gus with members feeling they get treated the same as non members but that's an easy fix mate.. wouldn't you say? And along with the other benefits they get i think they do quite well for £20 quid a year.

What's to grumble about.

I think the f/sale and wanted scenario is ,well to be perfectly honest,a nonsense and an ill thought decision.

I can see you guys thought it was probably worth a try given a handful of members requested it (i'm sure members have also posted it's a bad idea aswell though) so, is it a trial run and if it goes :boobies: up will it be reinstated? or is it policy for the powers not to go back on what is thought of as a bad decision ?

And yes £20 is worthwhile but not everyone seems to agree on how things are dealt with etc and choose not to pay..sadly.

Some of the responses and PR from the powers to be on this thread proves that. Not really an ideal marketing strategy is it ?

Bobby, i don't take it as being negative all the time bud. Most of it is constructive critisism or merly asking for certain things to be explained in full. After all, were always asked to voice opinions or ask questions if the need arises ;)

Yup, on scoobynet you either have to be a full member or have 'for sale' membership. Either way you have to pay to sell stuff......

I'm not so sure Davey. I posted something for sale on .net a couple of days ago and i haven't paid any dues as of yet. Also just been on s/net and it's letting me post a for sale thread, again don't pay any fees. Weird.

Perhaps paying a small fee to allow non members on here to use the for sale section could be an idea ?

Getting back to Neil's original point, was it really necessary to delete all the old "For Sale" adverts instead of just letting them run their course and slowly disappear to the bottom of the pile?

Myself and Neil were talking to Robert (STi Pretender) recently and were stating to him how we were getting ready to put our hands in our pockets (and yes, I know that Neil has short arms and very deep pockets) and put our money back in to the club, but this issue has left a very sour taste.

I have myself run a car club (a not inconsiderable one called the RS Owners Club) and do appreciate how much of your life running a club can swallow, but at no time did I ever use foul language to the general population of the club.

Perhaps something to think about for those that are now in control

As for the benefits the membership brings

cheaper trackdays - not interested

discounted servicing from dealers - get a good deal in whom i go to

cheaper insurance from specialist - cant match the deal i have for 2 cars let alone for 1 car

will this club still allow non paid members to attend the monthly meets or this is members only now

Frank, that is an area that has been discussed and probably will be high on the agenda in the Committee Forum or at our next weekly online meeting.

It was muted at £1 per item (I think thats the rate we discussed!?)in a FS/wanted section for people to advertise their wears if they were non members.

Would that be of interest do you think?

Having just read this thread through, here is my two pence worth.

Firstly I have no problem with only members being able to put up new posts in the For Sale section. If I recall, I think somewhere I put in a thread that I thought being able to sell on the forums should be a member benefit. However, the old for sale and wanted posts should have been allowed to die naturally, including those from non-members posted before the rule change. Not sure who came up with the idea of deleting all items where there were no replies in the last 15 days but I don’t agree with it. These forums do not move fast enough to chop them at 15 days. 3 months is more like it. Also, people reply to for sale and wanted posts by PM. Can the Admin on here check the PM activity relating to any of the topics posted?

I recently rejoined as a member. This was to support the club as the new committee try to turn it round. I don’t do track days, use min dealers and the discounted insurance is extortionate and trying to communicate with KM’s gets very wearing. An AA discount is listed as member benefit but when I recently tried to renew my AA membership they no longer offer the discount. So financially, I get little back. However, supporting the club is enough for me.

In this thread there is a Moderator telling members “If you don't like it hoot off”. A Committee Member then asks “...what the **** are you all whining about” and goes on to say “It's attitudes like this that make me wonder why the **** I bother...”

Quite frankly stum450n, I am stunned and at your comments on this tread. If your attitude is even remotely representative of the committee then why the hell should I be here supporting the club? We all want to see the club get back on its feet but if this is the way things are going to go you will lose more members than you ever gain, myself included.

:(

I was thinking more of a flat fee Gus if indeed that's the way it has to be. I personally wouldn't pay it but it's not for me to say as a registerd user non member i guess.

I still don't see why the change was needed in the first place. It's a step too far in my book. All it's done is alienate more folk and as Craig mentioned *left a sour taste in the mouth*. If i had the choice i'd put it back to how it was and admit it was a bad idea. I think the members get a good enough deal tbh.

And to pick up on another thing mentioned. What action will be taken regarding the foul/abusive language from the powers to be? Or is it now just a free for all.

The decision made here will go a long way to help draw a line under the problem.

It can't be tolerated.

£20 a year it is then

Unfortunately, the threads that have been deleted cannot be reinstated (I've already asked that question!) I have also been advised that it was also meant to be set at 30days without a response then they would be nuked but unfortunately a mistake was made. It happens!

Anyway, I must agree that the foul language is not appropriate on the forum and the Mods in question know better.

I think this thread could go on for ever and ever but you know the old saying "you will never please all the people all of the time" at the end of the day we are all trying to do our best for the club and its the small fee that plays a huge part in keeping it afloat :icon_salut:

Anyway, all comments duly noted and will no doubt be discussed within the committee.

Och come on "neighbour" it takes less time than typing your last post ;):P

I'm a fast typer, Gus ;)

In all seriousness, I tried both the forms and neither worked for me. I was told this is a 'known fault' and that I should raise a ticket. That's when I began to lose enthusiasm ;)

If you can arrange to have the form fixed, then I'll happily revisit it with my 20 bucks in hand...

Cheers.

The whole for sale section has went all to f@#k, since the power has went to mods heads, it used to be one of the best/busiest parts of scottish scoobys but now its just shat,,, well done guys you've managed to f@#k that right up !!!

SORT IT OUT !!!!!!

Now this is not a direct response to the above quoted person, that's why I removed the name from quote, more on the content. If you can catch me here.

I was trying to be nice & tongue in cheek with the first couple of posts and was succeeding until I read above reply.

That's why i replied to the content the way i did, not at the person & that is a point i want to make crystal clear folks. Absolutely not directed at anyone in person ok!

Pushed hard & far enough even the most placid of guys regardless of non member, paid member, moderator, RO, committee member, admin, superman, wonderwoman or the Bee Gee's will crack.... I am so laid back in my later years I am horizontal man.

For the sake of anyone's feeling please accept my most sincere apology for any offence taken.

There seems to be a wee bit of unsettled water at the moment, for the peace of the SIDC lets please try and weather the storm!
