Ovv Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Looking around again at prices and mileages of Blob STi's. Currently my max mileage is set at 40k on the old Autotrader search, so Im possibly missing out on a bargain but what peoples opinions on buying higher mileage STis ? All opinions welcome. Chris.
scoob fae ork Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I would class 40k as barley run in my blob is sitting at 57k and is perfect
Ovv Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Reason for asking is Nice looking Spec D on the Subaru Website, £11k mileage at 61k. Just think Im maybe being a bit of a snob and missing out on a mint car.
lewisscoob Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I know a fella that was looking at a scoob with 140k on it. I would say buy on condition more than anything. 40k miles with kids and dogs and a careless owner could look a lot worse than a 100k cherished well kept and serviced car if you know what I mean?

Yeah I know what you mean, think I might be a bit more tempted to do a higher mileage car but only from an official dealer, least that way I would get some sort of decent warranty rather than chancing my luck on a private sale.

I would think it would depend on how many miles you plan on doing? If you buy a car with above average miles and then you dont do that many or you buy one with above average and then you do loads. Its going to have an effect on the resale should you come to sell it.

Approx 6.5k a year I reckon as I already have the diesel Golf for longer journeys.
wrxmania Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Approx 6.5k a year I reckon as I already have the diesel Golf for longer journeys. My car has done 3500 in less than 3 months and that includes a couple of weeks in getting work done & bits fitted. No worries - it's a Japanese car and will do hundreds of thousands of miles if looked after and treated well. Brian.

I'd agree to an extent with paul555sti. If you're going to be doing 6.5k a year then going a bit higher on the mileage isn't a massive issue, like already said go on condition and its history more. Ovv Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Im guessing it would maybe be slightly higher, but the 6.5k was based on what I did last year before I punted the Focus we had at the time. Want to drive it not just pamper it.
bobbyc Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 As long as there is a decent service history milage shouldn't matter, most owners are enthusiasts and look after their babies, I've had some sort of scoob tucked up in the garage since 95 & my present RA with 90,000 mls on the clock runs as well as my GB with 11,000 mls, both running on prolong lubricants, as long as the Japs are oiled & watered regularly they don't let you down, it's a buyers market and theres some lovely examples out there I'm sure there are plenty of guys on here would be only to glad to help you choose, but there are some dogs as well.
gus the bus Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) With my first Forester Turbo I did 186k miles in 4 years up and down the West Coast of Britain The car never missed a beat or let me down at any point during that four years with regular servicing and maintenance(one of the reasons I'm on my 11th Subaru now, honest!!! ) . Looking at the vehicle you would never have known its mileage from the condition it was in My current RA has c112k on the clock and is very reliable Anyhoo, back on topic I would side with Paul555sti in that if you are only doing 6kish miles a year the higher mileage vehicle would soon average out so worth a gander if its got FSH and well looked after etc............ johns Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 £11k for a Spec D (What I'm driving at the moment) seems like a good deal to me. I've had Imprezas now for the past 13 years, and driven many many miles in them. My previous Sti had 64k miles on it when I traded it in after 5 years and was running just as sweet as it was when new, still on the original clutch. Only things that had been swapped out on it were the brakes, as it needed new front discs all round. I don't even think I had to change a light bulb on it either during the 5 years! If the car you are looking to buy has a full service history and appears to have been well looked after I would have no hesitations in buying it.
johnnyr6 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) My car has 116k on the clock and still goes well and has never let me down. That includes 1/4 days and trackdays. Johnny Edited March 31, 2010 by JohnnyR6
jacko324 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 My 2004 wrx has 130,000 on clock still going strong Hate to think how much i've payed in fuel lol
Ovv Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 Have extended my search to include mileage upto 60k, not sure if I would be comfortable to go above that... but within that range Ive openned up a heap of possibilities- mostly early blobs 2003, but still some cracking motors.
jamesm Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Slightly off topic but when I was out in Oz a couple of years ago we stayed with our friends parents out in the bush. There was great excitement that week as their Ford Falcon had just clocked past the 900,000 Kms mark. Think that works out at over 550,000 miles!
Joe G Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I bought my spec c 2 years ago and clocked up nearly 20k miles in that time, All motorway either running up to Aberdeen or down to Newcastle. Which puts my milage to nearly 60k i think. Milage would only be a problem in my eyes if the car hasnt been looked after properly and had regular services and oil changes. One of my mate has just bought a 2005 blob sti with 92000on the clock and you couldn't fault the car. P.S my spec c may be for sale shortly
FurballPhil Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) My RA has 149K on the clock on a `K` Plate, bought recently. (My 5th Scooby) I wasn`t scared off by the milage on the clock as it had just had a full engine fitted from V6 STi, I have all paper work to prove donor cars milage of 32k..... All gaskets, seals, belts and pulleys replaced too. Reciepts from garage for fitting, my car had 133k on the clock at the time of fitting. Came to £3600 for engine and labour. The car then went back for a new TD05 18g Turbo, Apexi Power FC Hand Commander, Apexi AVC-R, Grp N Fuel Pump + Pressure Reg, 550cc Injectors and ECU Remap. All for another £3100... Which makes £4700 plus loads of other reciepts for other things totalling £6985 Car Dyno`d @ 382bhp..... The car it self is Red, immaculate inside out, runs like a dream and is, I think the best Scooby I have owned... Came with long MOT and Tax too.... Now, here`s the best bit, I got this Scooby RA for £2450.... So my advice is not to be scared off by milage on cars, as there are loads of Impreza`s out there with a documented history like my one if you take the time to look and not to jump on the first nice looking one you see..... I looked at over 30 Impreza`s before jumping all over this one................... Edited April 1, 2010 by FurballPhil
dram300 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 My 2004 wrx has 130,000 on clock still going strong Hate to think how much i've payed in fuel lol I just had a guesstimate on fuel costs for my 2005 42k miler from new ... Then I guesstimated your 130k miler cost ... Still, money well spent IMHO
tomwrx08 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 i wouldnt be put off buyin a high mileage car from someone on a forum as most have been well looked after and have a better documented history and reciepts, buying from a dealer aint always the best option imo just because u get a warranty doesnt mean its covered, my 07wrx has 46k on the clock but has full history and a folder full of reciepts, most people that own scoobys wash and polish and cherish there car so u might find a better example on a forum as u can find threads to see what mods have been done and what if any probs they have had
