edmondo Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I am sure the Subaru Cosworth will be much better than the old Ford variants Cheers Iain must be an age thing but I would still snap someones arm off for an old Sierra Cosworth

Cheers Iain

scoobyseller555 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 well i am probably 1 of the few on here that can say i had '1 of the original whaletails' and '2 of the escorts',as you all know i also work with a Subaru franchise, all i can say is we will all need to wait and see . It is so easy for people who don't know any better to slag off IM and the dealer network in general, but, its thanks to IM that this project has been undertaken and i for one will embrace it,as for Prodrive,as they are no longer involved with SWRT it doesn't look like they are involved in any product developement going forward. The 380's was shelved purely on reliability issues,my understanding with forged internals, and as such warranting would have been impossible.Unlike the Litchfield/Cosworth partnership this will in whole be developed and built by Cosworth,it will have full UK type approval, unlike the JDM cars. Lets not forget that this project is probably the biggest thing ever to happen in Impreza history this side of the 22B. Good on IM and i can't wait to sell them!!! Gav

I am all for the Scoob/Cossie lets hope it works well Cheers Iain

the squiggle Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) The 2.5 UK engine is not as good as it could have been. The JDM market gets a far superior product. The IM/Subaru dealer network combination has been chasing the horsey horsey Surrey bankers market and forgot its roots/following/hardcore masses. The UK STI has always been an inferior produst to its JDM equivilent. All pretty much fact as far as i can see. I have never owned a UK classic and i have never had any desire to, only one i would consider is a P1 but even they have thier flaws being a rejigged and downgraded in some regards Type R. The JDM in my opinion offers far better scope for upgrades and a far better starting point. I good proportion of people i speak to at meets and shows say if they had done some research before buying the car then they would have went down the JDM route. Indeed the Litchfield has a Cosworth bottom end as well as some other choice goodies and for me this is where i would be heading as i know bugger all and just drive a van. Failing that a 2.0 Hatch from Japan and a AndyF remap would suffice. Doesn't a JDM car need a SVA test to ensure it complies to UK approval and standards prior to being issued a registration mark. The Escort and Sierra Cosworths were built in an era when Ford reckoned it could produce every car it made entirely in house and this period in time coincided with Fords severe drop in the reliabilty factor. I think, and keep in mind i know feck all about nothing, the directive has come from Japan that the way to sell cars in the UK is to give the hardcore following, the following that established the marque in the UK something they want instead of the almighty Turbo Diesel horsey mobiles. Hhhhmmm Prodrive still sell upgrade parts and have just released a N2010, so i am sure there is still a connection between Subaru and Prodrive As my good but slightly crazy friend Callum would say Thanks for the fish Edited February 12, 2010 by The Squiggle

stum450n Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Its £980 for an Evo 9 headlight and i bet they still sell them!!Gav Doesn't make it justifiable though does it. I mean think about it, that artist that uses elephant crap to paint paintings that win 'awards' and sells them for millions to mugs who've been convinced it's worth it... at the end of the day, it's still elephant ****, whatever the price tag. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Subaru or IM are crap, that's just an analogy. My point is that just because someone's willing to pay a certain price for something, it doesn't necessarily mean it is worth paying that price for... it's subjective and that I'm afraid, is where Subaru and IM have gone wrong. Anyway, back to the original point, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this all turns out with Cosworth... lets just hope they're a bit harder to steal this time!

stinger Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Thing is though Ed... its a hatch and you dont even like them!
scoobyseller555 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 ..........................all i'm saying is that it is very easy to have a lot to say in a negative way re. IM and the dealer network without having facts to substanciate these statements, with regards to prices EVERY importer of any product from the far east has seen a marked increase in costs to get goods to the UK,as an example TEIN's prices have seen a 40% increase since last year. With regards to Prodrive,as far as i'm awair the ties between Subaru Uk and them have been severed, yes they are still building Impreza rally cars for private clients and purchasing cars directly from Japan. With regards to the difference between SVA and Full UK type approval, single vehicle approval is really a mickey mouse test in comparison to the rigorous tests that are carried out on products to get them to retail with full approval. Lets not all forget that IM brought us the first turbos to the UK,of which i was privy to back in 93,and have helped make it the iconic car it is today, and many more incarnations along the way..............Mcrae,Catalunya,RB5,22Buk,P1,WR1 and RB320 not to mention the unbelieveable amount of happy UK turbo, wrx and STI owners that still enjoy SUBARU ownership today. Yes the JDM offers something different, but still aren't without there problems in ownership,i would say in my opinion more of a petrolheads choice perhaps. I'm still selling cars to new and old customers alike, and will continue to do so for as long as they come through the door,i have met some fantastic people along the way(and some tossers)but i am sure that the COSWORTH will re-light the smoldering fire under our product once again and see many more people being happy with there lot. I have been fortunate to own 17 imprezas since 93,both JDM and UK,and can honestly say i can't think of another brand of car that has put a smile on my face in the way the Imprezas have. Roll on the Cosworth. Gav

scoobyseller555 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) Tad defensive there but hey i know nothing Sorry Grant it wasn't directed at you(in its entirety),but i can see the JDM attraction. Not even I claim to know everything. Gav Edited February 13, 2010 by scoobyseller555
