nkwrx Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Sore one mate, as everyone is saying glad you are ok and relatively unscathed. As for the car on the bright side you can start the search now on what to get with the insurance pay out. Airbags often don't deploy if there has not been a frontal impact so no real concern to be honest. Seen many wrecks like yours with no deployment and people still walk away as you thankfully have too. Kevan
craig_harey Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 thanks for the comments guys things will look better in the morning (hopefully) a life is more important than any car even my scoob at the end of the day saved £160 on the service though lol
RS Grant Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Thats terrible news mate, your car was very clean and I always followed its progress with interest, being another Spec.D and all.. it is worrying how no airbags were triggered, but the car looks to have held up pretty well considering the impact it took, but the main thing is that you are still around to tell the tale. Cheers, Grant

oxbig1 Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 glad ur ok mate. it just shows you how strong the scoobs r. i rolled a car once n no airbags went off. i think they only go off if you have a head/side on when the car comes to a sudden stop after impact..

thefastone Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Glad your ok mate, gutted for you! but like has been said, Cars Fix or replace.... people dont... And as others have said Airbags are no use for anything other than front impact.... and have been known to cause injuries anyway... (better than what could have been though) All that sets them off, is just a weight in a tube, the weight is thrown forward with a sudden stop making the contacts and firing the charge in the airbag...
sparky_sj04 Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Sorry to see that dude, glad you're ok.. As for the airbags, I wrote off an 04 STI last year, hit a dividing fence between 2 carriageways and hit one of the main strong bars, full on frontal impact, bent the front cross-member in a proper V shape, wrecked the subframe and knocked belts off the engine etc.. hit it so hard the car stopped dead and actually jumped round 180 degrees and hit the back end too... ANYWAY.. the airbags never went off... and that should definitely have done it... Know how you feel anyway mate, it'll all sort itself out soon enough...
billyboy Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 At the end of the day its only a bit of tin.The main thing is you are ok and live to drive another day.We had an accident 20yrs ago involving a drunk driver very near to the turn off for Knockhill at Powmill, unfortunetly the guy lost his life and were still here to tell the tale.I know that yours is a different set of circumstances but i understand how gutted you are to lose such a nice mota.I lost a £250 mk2 Escort van back then, his insurance gave me £600 for it,i could'nt believe it. It will be ok in the end mate.Buy another one and enjoy.
pmacFTO Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Glad you are ok m8, just shows you how easy it can happen and you just can't account for diesel/greasy roads etc. Nice to see your sense of humour re: the service lol Should someone not highlight the airbags not going off on Scoobys - one thread on this forum alone and we have 3 people who say they never went off! Especially sparky's crash! My airbag light is on just now but it sometimes isn't and it'sa bit worrying reading about them in situations like these! Hope you are back in a Scooby soon tho m8.
