markymark Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Just saw the news, blue subaru crashed near Huntly with someone airlifted to aberdeen, hope they're ok []
iainc Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 F***... hopefully it looks worse than it is. Hope they are all okay. Iain.
scouk Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Heard about this, this morning on the radio.. Nae good like.. Fortunately no one killed.. Must be something in the air, 4 separate accidents across the north between last night and this morning. I think 2 killed in total. I hope the injured recover quickly. Anyone know the Impreza involved here? The solid white centre lines on the BBC photo doesn't give me much confidence... [:S]
glen_cadwallader Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Heard it on MFR aswell guys, only noticed as they stated subaru impreza, just to make it sound bad I imagine, what a mess though, it does give me concern that guys that age can get these cars, atleast they are all alive.
oz *sti* Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Very bad news indeed. Hope all involved are not hurt to bad.
Guest AlanK Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Jeezu - Makes me think how lucky I was! Keep being told it could have been so much worse...... Hope they are all OK!

I was only 23 when I got my Scooby. Don't think age alone is the factor. Looked like a bad accident though. Roof cut off it seems, which isn't usually a good sign.

Yeah, agreed. A while back, someone on here suggested that new drivers should be limited to certain engine sizes just like the motorcycle system. The concern that these guys can get their hands on cars such as the Impreza is not only limited to hurting themselves but also whom ever else they may innocenly take out in a moment such as the one discussed here. I hope they are ok and make a full recovery.
4Hero Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 what a mess, I hope these guys are ok. It's probably just as well they were in a scooby, if they were in a corsa they would all probably be dead.
glen_cadwallader Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Yes guys, I had a big row with my gf she's 21 im 33, of course she claims she can drive fast cars and is a great driver. And she pays £1800 a year for a MG TF ! Im not slating young drivers, but I do thing a power output restriction maybe an idea upto 21 years old or higher, but then I guess there are ways round everything as 4hero says if they were in a tin can corsa it would be worse, and of course these can be made to go fast aswell ! I just hate hearing about young drivers, everytime it comes on the radio I cringe, the familys suffer so much over it.
ryancat-85 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 hope the guys are ok, seen the pics in the evening express last night !! I would agree that an age restriction would be good but its hard to say if it would make a difference, I was 21 when i first got my scooby and i know a few guys younger than me with them now. I also know some guys that are 23/24 year old with little 1.2s and 1.4s that are total idiots on the road and given a high powered car for a week would almost certainly smash it !! id say its weather the person driving the car is mature enough to have it, but there is no way of knowing who is and who isn't !!

Then don't base it on age at all. Base it on having to take an additional test to prove you can handle such a fast car. I don't just mean physically being a good driver, but also whether you mentally have what it takes NOT to boot it around the place at warp factor 7 every time you get into it. I know when I first passed my test I was a careful driver (in mums car) but once I got my first car (Metro 1300S) I had that thing bouncing off the rev limiter everywhere (out of the town anyway). In a way I was lucky that I didn't have plenty of money to be able to buy something more powerful as I was able to step up performance wise step by step, although in my first GTi I was still hitting the rev limiter a lot. It gave me enough time for my ability to catch up with the performance level I was at, rather than going fro a shopping car to a rally car in one step. There just wasn't cars as powerful as the WRX/STi's around in the price range that they are in now when I was that age (things like Cosworths were still pricey and even priceier to insure). I don't know how young guys get insurance these days as it appears to cost hundreds of pounds to insure even cr*ppy cars now.
euan_r Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 thats pretty unusual place for a crash i would think. its a very flowing road apart from that wee section. theres a tighter than normal corner which starts it off which i would of though would see the accidents, few twists back from this. there is however hidden side road there. Could of been livestock on the road or anything, you just dont know. doesnt sound good with that many passangers (distractions)etc hope they recover cars can be replaced.
cullenmin Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 it does give me concern that guys that age can get these cars The drivers 24!
glen_cadwallader Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 it does give me concern that guys that age can get these cars The drivers 24! Exactly !!! Well as the guys say it isnt fair to speculate mate, so I wont, but you can bet your bottom dollar the cops will be looking at it I mean impreza turbo wrx, full of young boys, it doesnt look or sound great, but we have all been there at some point.

scoobyfuzzy Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 well i think car tests should be like motorbikes, seperate test for higher power cars, when i was younger, just pasted ma test, thou i could handle a powerful car, i put it into a wall 2 months after getting it, young guys thinlk there invinsable after passin there test, i say, certain age to drive certain sized engines, and seperate tests for them aswell fuzzy
oobster Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 BBC News Website now saying the 19-year-old front seat passenger has died in hospital [] http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_east/6942295.stm
