  1. grant you should be able to get a decent quote i was quoted 900 for a V6 type-r a year ago from greenlight. ;) The VR6 insurance is due May 1st and can't get it for less than 500 and it was 306 last year and i now have 4 years no claims and am 25 how do they work that out :P

Also my mate used to have a traders policy think he was about 900-1000 and was covered for up to 10 cars. each car was only to be up to the value 50k and he had to phone them and give them the number plate of each car on the policy. At the time he was 23 and had an evo7 a GTO twin turbo a convertable old mini and a 2.2 prelude so definatly saved him a few quid. I will find out the name of the company for ya later on.

Had heard (possibly on this forum) that in the event of a claim that some traders insurance will request to see your books for the last so many years... doesn't pay out if you aren't actually a trader IYKWIM.

Might be worth definitely checking on that kind of point if anyone was considering a traders policy... would hate to think of someone saving a couple of hundred quid and then losing a good few grand 'cos the ins co won't pay out.

  2. Looks like Im winning some converts!

Aye, I'd love to go orange on the wheels too! Like I said, I might paint my track wheels! ;)

Heres me wondering about how to get a remap and full decat past the wife and you are whackin' on a new set of gfx onto a car that needs new parts to make it work properly again... personally I'd ensure it worked properly before I start adding more gfx to it, esp if you end up like last time and only last a year or so with them.

    Sorry...

I know that people have said that blue and orange go together (as in Irn Bru) but IMHO they don't on a car. End of the day though its your money and your car so just do what you want anyway :D

  3. Good grief - talk about back-lash!!!!

Davie (Corsa): I can't peel the stickers off casue there are none on yet, that's jsut a mock-up done in Photoshop. But the car needs something to make it disticntive. The WRC stickers were good for a bit, but the world and its granny has them now. Also been - seen - done that!

Stephen: What is it about the Gumball stickers that looks so bad? I was thinking about doing the bonnet and scoop, plus the spolier in camo. For that I'd drop the gumball sticker and replace it with jsut SUBARU where the WRC one goes.

I think Imight do another mock up in yellow this time to see how it works out...

Squiggle: My pleasure, did the vid work on your N95 ok?

Cheers guys, even though you are a bunch of spoil-sports! :(

The monster ones were a lot better than the orange though... the orange might go with some cars but not the blue of yours...

  4. Agreed with the consensus on here, the orange gfx don't work. The Monster ones had the right kind of look but as said seemed to be missing something. Certainly the mock up you did last time looked a lot better than this... sorry.

  5. Looks like winters not over yet, the Snow rarely lies here, so when I looked out the window a minute ago... I got a surprise...

    post-10669-1206064434.jpg

Crap pic I know, I'm just off to bed, and although you cant see it because of the longer exposure, its snowing pretty hard when I took the pic (I know, Invisble snow... )

Pffft, that's nothing. Was wondering why the wife was taking her time getting home last night, was after 11pm and she still hadn't come in... went and looked outside and there was a good inch or so of snow lying around our house/cars, etc. Hadn't even realised. Most of it's gone this morning, just wee pockets of it lying here and there.

  6. Oh and theres also a place just as you come into Nairn too... (just a wee place on your right...) after that bridge...

Yeah, IIRC there is a BP opposite the college in Inverness and am sure there is another petrol station leading back from the college to the Kessock bridge, just not sure what kind it is. Not sure if the station that was underneath Raigmore heights (or whatever the high rise flats are called) is still open or what brand it is either.

  7. Heading up to Inverness for the weekend and just wondering if there is a supply of our favourite gogo juice up there?

    Cheers

    Marc

Would be interested in wheres the best myself 'cos we're heading up Elgin way this weekend and possibly out past Inverness as well at some point.

  8. Fack em' all ! I'll be burning the motion lotion till it runs out......agreed the tax situation is not healthy but................

Why do they not raise the price of Whisky by £1 a bottle and a pint by 50p. People aren't going to stay at home as a consequence of a piffling 4 penny rise on a pot of disco juice...

Alcohol is a luxury and petrol is essential ( pleasure trips aside !) - I think the NHS/Health debate is very weak. They make a mint in taxing bevvy so they are scared to hike things by too much.

At work but could type all day on this issue !

Just did this... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7290230.stm and found that despite the hike in fuel duty and car tax we're supposedly still gonna be a couple of hundred quid a year better off... it's always something to go towards the remap I suppose :P

  9. The perfect way to be! :P

I'm just not like that myself, but then no 2 two people are indeed ever the same. I think that possibly DOES come down to income though. If you can afford to lose 10k in a couple of years thats fine, but i know i couldn't.

I dare say i would probably be arguing a bit different if i still owned a scoob, but i know for a fact i'd be considering selling it.

There was a good thread on SNET just there about if it's really necessary to have big power. We never really use it as much as we should and i dare say, the cars we have the most fun in are small engined, great handling(or maybe not even that great handling!) wee cars that in a straight line, could tear a blade of grass. I know thats the case with me... We pay all this money for big fast cars, but can't use them to their potential unless you take it to the track, but how often do we all do that anyways?

I can't afford to "lose" money, but I've spent it on the car. Same way that if I buy a big telly, guitar, lawnmower, etc that I've spent that money too. I could maybe make some of it back again if I sold the things but I don't want to.

Same goes for the car. I need one to go to/from work anyway, and I like something that handles/goes as well. Can't afford to have to run many different cars so need to pick one that does it all, scoob is the perfect choice.

  10. Agreed, but it's a viscious circle.

If one person can't afford it, neither can a lot of other people and that then get's into the cost of the car depreciating further. I know not everyone cares about that, but there will always come a time when you come to sell a car and i'm sure it'll be a concern then.

BMW have done the right thing with the efficiency of their engines and Audi is following suit. Over the next 2-3 years, i think most of the manufacturers will be bringing out greener cars, so it shouldn't spell the end of a lot of high performance cars on the market....it'll just mean the older ones will lose a lot more than they are just now. Just look at the depreciation of the newages....around 15k for a 2006 Hawkeye now, bargain!

Rightly or wrongly I assume that once I've bought a car I've spent (or lst) the lot. Only once I come round to selling the car do I wonder about how much I'd get for it.

  11. So how much do you think it will knock off the value of our cars, the fact no one will want to buy them.

TBH, by the looks of things on the for sale sections of the various BBS's recently scoobs haven't really been selling anyway.

TBH, it wasn't a reason I bought the STi anyway. I have no plans to get rid of mine, and unless petrol suddenly gets a LOT more expensive AND the tax gets real pricey I still can't see me getting rid of it either.

For someone doing the "average" mileage (12k) then you are currently spending somewhere ITRO £3k-ish on petrol for a year, £300 for tax and whatever for insurance (I'm about £400-450) so I'd be somewhere in the region of £3500-4k in fuel, tax and insurance (before mods, etc :P ), adding a couple of hundred to the tax and even about a quid a gallon extra really isn't worth making the change 'cos the value of the car would have dropped so much (I expect).

All Turbo'd scoobs will not be cheap to run, the difference in running costs between a mid 90's scoob and the worst CO2 offender will still probably only be ITRO £200-300 a year which is less than a quid per day or about £25 a month. When you are talking about performance cars it's FA really (and I'm not minted).

  12. Em...

    210...? 400...? 455...?

What cars you driving? my road tax was 180 this year, I only just paid it like 2 weeks ago... :P

Well the 06 STi is in the top group, but we have a Leon Cupra TDi and it's cheap as fook to tax, so I look at it as being the same as two "normal" cars to tax IYKWIM... IIRC the Leon was £110 for the whole year.

  13. Personally I think it's just a cunning way to make the new hatchback Impreza look more attractive :P

TBH, the sooner they get shot of road tax and put it onto the fuel so it actually affects those that use the car the most often the better, but then why would they bother when they can do that *and* charge for road tax as well.

  14. Yeah thats what I thought - the bikes looked awsome under the flood lights. I think JT is going to be held back by his bike this year tbh. Apparently his Tech 3 is has a sigificantly lower top end to the factory M1. Rookies all did well tbf.

Was a crackin' set of races right enough. Thought that the Duke was gonna have a lot more competition this year based on the first few laps, but it did look like they had screwed the power down for the first few laps and then turned it back up to normal part way thru'.

Looks to be a good season for the "rookies", but hopefully Rossi learns the new tyres sooner rather than later to try and stop the Duke disappearing into the distance (although Lorenzo did a good job trying to hold on).

Watched the 125 race last night and the guy that won it must have HUGE B*lls, he looked in so much pain by the end of it with such a painful shoulder (Same goes for Hopper with the groin muscle injury  ).

All in all it looks like it could be a real good season as long as the Ducati doesn't just romp away into the distance every race.

  15. Some of you said you'd like to see a more complete mock up of the Monster graphics for the Hawkeye, so I tried to do that. It was difficult becasue I couldn't find decent donor graphics - or didn't have the patience to keep looking. Anyway, here is a front and side few of the proposed design. Opinions welcome, good or bad.

The side looks okay, wasn't so sure about the front but looking at it again it's growing on me.
