  1. Ed, I slapped a Hayward and Scott backbox on my '05 WRX last Friday, courtesy of the lovely people at Motorsport World in Strathaven. It took all of 10 minutes for Simon to install the backbox, and my old one is safely tucked away in the garage in case I need to make the car completely warranty friendly again.

It is WELL worth doing. It's like the spirit of my car was bursting to get out, and now it's unleashed for all to see and hear.

Car feels like it pulls a little bit better lower down the revs too. Probably just my imagination though.

  2. I'll add myself in if we have the place all on our lonesome for a day.

  3. I must say I do enjoy the handling of my '05 WRX, but coming from the front end lift king Vectra I can't hounestly say I'm comparing it to much.

Would i notice the prodrive geometery differences in day to day use or only really on fast road/track day?

If I was getting droplinks done should I do them first then get the geometery setup?

  4. I wash it once a week mainly, any less than that and it makes baby jesus cry.

I gave it a quick blast (from a distance of course) with the power washer at work today seeing as we had some rain t'other day. There's usually a big problem doing it with that as it ends up with horrible water marks, but a combination of better soap, and me taking it out for a 10 minute blast right after means it's almost as sparkly as the hands on swissol treatment, which it received on Sunday of course.

Found a great benefit for the exhaust too. The security gaurds can hear me driving past and so the gate is always open for me leaving the compound!

  5. I didn't end up getting it done at C+C as they were talking about hacking bits off the centre section.

The backbox was handled at all times with gloves mind you, and I couldn't see any prints on it, so that's a bonus.

I'll take a stroll into Halfrauds and see if they have any Autosol or the Meguiars stuff.

I do enjoy nice smelling cleaning products. The swissol samurai wax smells so nice that you could probably eat a spoonful, a la clarkson on top gear. The car bath smells of coconuts too, but I don't like the taste of them.

  6. No complaints with my Bridgetone Potenza RE050s, but I've never driven a performance car before.

Have to say though, I've done 10500 miles so far and with the exception of the shoulder of the passenger side front tyre (KH Track day damage, IT WAS MELTING!) they are still in fantastic condition and should have plenty of miles left. I don't push my car to the limits on the road, but I don't hang about either.

I used to be able to get 10-11K out of a set of front tyres on my Vectra no matter what I used, so getting this far is a complete bonus for me!

  7. The petrol lover's good juice guide.

GQ - Gentleman's Quartermiles (thanks for the inspiration Dougster, so in return - )

The official adventures of Grandmaster Dougster.

    The fast and the weegies.

We visit Shell stations by the Sea Shore (and in city centres, and on backroads, and on motorway service stations).

  8. I managed 800 odd litres in the quarter from March to 31st of May, which got me 600 bonus points.

I've got 4861 now, and obviously loads more bonus points due at the next quarter with the way I'm going through the stuff.

It's quite entertaining looking at the list of recent transactions because I stopped using my card at the end of '03 when my local shell became a Safeway, then suddenly at the start of 05 it starts getting used once every 4 or 5 days, if not more often. Spot the scooby owner.

Anybody ever bothered to actually work out the return they're getting? I think if you get 900 litres of fuel in a quarter you'll get enough points + bonus points to manage to get a £10 voucher (1500 points). A return of not much more than 1%. It's clearly worth it!
