Yes I hope so, had a 2005 WRX ppp before so going all mature now!!!

Looking at a 2007 3.0R Outback this week so kind of new style SIDC transport. Does anyone have any experience of these beasts or Legacy 3.0 for that matter? What to check over and above normal stuff. I know they are chain driven, top rfl and mpg isn't great but have fancied one for a while and though it doesn't have the oomph or sound of my WRX should be ok for an estate. All thoughts most welcome. Maybe even join the Fling next year, at the BACK!

thanks to all.

got it, thanks guys. Now Scoobless as my daughter is about to learn to drive and the Impreza wasn't going to impress the insurance people. Got a decent price from an enthusiast so happyish and picking up a 1.4 fiesta tomorrow and have been giving the Impreza ownership thing some thought and to summarise; Will miss good points; turbo shove exhaust and induction noise TRACTION ability to destroy a twisty, even wet section of road without drama and look after you with ability to spare (the car that is) snowy winters purposeful looks fairly practical space wise too Subaru community reasonable running costs comparitively Won't miss; RIDE COMFORT nothing below 2500 rpm bloody alarm set up godspeed brakes (just for Dave) Pros outweigh cons so its been a worthwhile experience which may tempt me back one day if I'm not too old and grumpy though goodness knows what the choice will be in a few years time. thanks to all for your advise and help over the last 3 flings especially lead man Dave.

How do I get access to facebook page? Emily has an account.

Depending on timing rush hour would normally do Edinburgh to Ullapool in around 4 hours without breaking any limits.
-
Unless you're drawing attention around town you shouldn't have a problem though legally any louder/larger bore than standard is illegal! (and will in theory get a rectification notice). So use of common sense is all that's required as well as not have a stupidly loud exhaust etc

Don't know but be aware the lower grill for a 2005 blob doesn't fit, Zunsport refunded no probs.
-
Cheers Don they look smart, will have a look for them.

Can anyone advise me on what to look for in a set of tuner wheel nuts (no wise cracks please). Just replacing tarnished standard nuts so no stud length changes etc but do I go for steel or alloy and any other pointers or recommended suppliers. Looking for black so needs to be a durable colour finish. Cheers

Yea totally agree Al, Nokians are great and last well too.

I had a pleasant surprise when my renewal arrived today from Tesco's thought £320 was reasonable last year for my 2005 WRX ppp fully comp for me and misses both 40 odd, 5k p.a garaged. Was expecting a slight increase as we usually have to start the quotes every year but not this time, £223 you beauty, beat that! Better get it paid for quick in case they messed up. Lets hope they lower car tax in the budget HAHA

highlandflyer replied to davey l wrx's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Thanks again Davey this is good info as always. Any thoughts on the local run that didn't happen last month? -
Got my WRX ppp blob 15 months ago and have decided not to performance mod (better to buy an STI for that) as the on road performance is good enough with 261 bhp and an extra 20ish isn't likely to make that much difference, an more is too much cost v gain. Upgraded brakes/handling does make sense, though using even 90% of any performance cars handling ability is ott on the road alot of the time not to mention insurance issues and the occasional reliability nightmares associated with engine tuning. If a standard cars performance isn't enough save up for a used 911, bike or GTR etc haha then we'd probably realise Scoobies are alot cheaper to buy and run in comparison (and dryer than a bike)!

stick with standard size which is 215x45x17 91 for a wrx. If you go for 225's you get a slightly higher profile ie tyre has larger circumference.

shop around and you'll get Goodyear F1 assymetric 2 for around £105 each deluivered. No comprimise there!

what preparation did you do before painting with modelling paint?
-
i must be a bit thick so you'd better explain what wrapping involves, hope I don't have to talk/sing in public. also who offers this in our neck of the woods?
-
Can some helpful soul tell me how to stop the paint peeling off my front splitter. It came primed grey to which I added 6ish coats of black matt then the same of lacquer but seems to flake chip too easily. maybe this is just normal in such an exposed position but looking for options none the less so what sticks best and stays on a plastic splitter? now thinking about hammerite or ?? as I'm quite happy with a non smooth finish.

google " Rex on rails impreza". If you haven't seen this Aussie article it's well worth a read. runs through 5 parts adding different parts and settings on a classic but would still apply to a new age
-
I must say I'm no expert and only give my humble opinion, so here goes; depends on driving style and what you are looking for but as a fast road set up I reckon the extra front caster is good but may be could have been left even ie 3 09 both sides. front camber hasn't really changed! would have personally wanted -1 to -1.75 range front toe is slight out, most go for zero or slight in rear camber not adjusted??? fair difference between sides here would expect equal readings in -0.5 to -1.5 range if achievable rear toe now almost even which is fine. how does car drive/feel now?
-
I believe you usually get more rear camber when you fit lower springs, so should not need camber bolt though can be fitted to locked settings more than without, would speak to your geo mechanic/operator as if he/she is good they will have seen it all before and give you good advise. also check for wear and play in bushes etc before shelling out on geo set up. if your tyres are good and evenly worn set up may not be too far out.
-
would think you need to get it on a 4 wheel geo set up. Have you had it set up at all or at least since springs fitted? what is tyre wear like?
-
Forgot to mention another factor is that braking, accelerating and cornering all change suspension dynamics and therefore settings. So this is why many add rear toe in as when you corner the outside rear wheel is loaded and produces + toe twisting it out and therefore balancing toe in on set up. Suppose suspension geometry is all about compromise and depends on driving style and road type etc as a note to the above I see whiteline settings include rear toe outside to help initiate turn in and loosen back end which obviously has its pros and cons, especially on road!!
