  1. Abroad for Alford unfortunately but have had a few dozen laps of Knockhill which was good, even on my tame set up. This seems to be what general opinion is for settings: camber f+r -1.5 toe 3' front toe in 8' rear toe in caster = as much as possible as this gives dynamic front camber when wheels turned (didn't realise this till recently but if you imagine your front wheels on a stick for steering, if stick (strut) is vertical when you turn the wheel just pivots flat to turn. Now imagine the steering stick (read strut) angled backwards (caster angle) when you turn stick wheel also leans with dynamic camber. ie as Al says the more caster you have the more dynamic camber this gives you when you turn which is v good and reduces the amount of static camber needed at geo set up and reduces tyre wear issues a bit. Forgeting stick etc I'm not trying to teach anyone how to suck eggs but thanks to Al, Glyn and various scources have found understanding the basics of this principle enlightening and am sure I'm not the only one to be unaware of this fact. Thought we might have got more set up figures from members though. Come on guys and gals it's not a trade secret and good to share, all for the common good and enjoyment/learn from others knowledge and mistakes.
  2. running -1 degree camber on front has made no difference to inside tyre wear on mine but don't do many miles of straight running. what is general std caster figure and have you done free caster mod ie turned pin 180 degrees which they reckon is worth 0.5 degrees of caster? have read that Imprezas don't really perform in the bends until you go over 1.5 camber. presume this is best explored on track otherwise the idea scares me.
  3. presume all toe is in? your caster figure seems v good as I believe the more the better, do you have anything other than alk that effects caster. how does the Litchfield drive in comparison to pre geo set up?
  4. I have decided to get the blob onto the 4 wheel geo set up machine thingy at Bitz in Nairn to maximise what we've got or not as the case may be. Other than a whiteline rear arb and droplinks with -1 degree front camber we're running standard suspension (2005 WRX) and settings. Have been toying with various options including lower springs, sorry to mess Phil and Dave around but decided against this due to: 1. after much phoning around Andy at RA Motorsport and a decent andy in Subaru parts Perth advised me prodrive springs off a GB270 Hawkeye should fit my blob though rates are unknown and they do eat shocks. 2. seems to be a strong opinion that Impreza's dont like being lowered and easy to mess handling up (this is only an opinion all you guys on coilovers etc) So... having decided to forego the lower springs I'm now looking at ALK, possible camber bolts and free caster mods and wondering what everyone else is running as far as geo set up goes? Probably going to try following setting to start unless this tread kicks up other ideas. I may well get a shock to find what current settings are! FRONT camber -1.5 to -1.75 caster max available toe probably slight in though not yet decided REAR camber -1.0 if I can get this on standard kit toe zero could be very interesting/informative to see what everyone is running at assuming you are prepared to share (no trade secrets) all constructive comments/advise most welcome. PS what did you go for Al?
  5. apart from the p2012 eml code and a sandblasted look to the splitter all is good with the blob. tyres even escaped fairly unscathed though handling must have been compromised by an overweight front end due to insect carnage! may throw caution to the wind next run and move arb up to middle hole! wow I'm so brave NOT.
  6. thanks Al, will investigate this one.
  7. Just thinking, you could talk me through this tech stuff when you and Davey organise the first MAD run!
  8. OK Al, for the technically challenged among us ie me EXACTLY which cable will work with a laptop to read and clear codes. Where do I get the laptop software from? And where's the plug in?? Also assume that reading and clearing codes is fairly foolproof so I cant mess things up even more and be in my "wish I'd never started this" syndrome, though I bet most of us have been there.
  9. seemingly p2012 is about tumbler generator valves either sticking or duff sensor. tgv's are part of emission controls!!! don't know if there is any problem long term but just clearing the code seems to be general advise. can you recommend a cheap but decent code reader that can also clear codes. cheers Al.
  10. Has anyone come across this ecu code as my engine management light was on then went off after 10 miles. Car seems normal but got Bitz Motorsport in Nairn to check for code. p2012 is a vvt issue seemingly but they've cleared it and suggest I drive it and see. seen this before? 2005 wrx ppp, no mods! I reckon it all got a bit hotter than usual on the Fling and threw a wobbly, certainly did the Godspeed brakes the world of good (no comment please Dave). anyone?. cheers
  11. got front set to minus one degree camber. will look at caster/alk, can I achieve a balanced, planted ride on standard springs though? I assume a small drop in height with better shox is sensible. are prodrive spring almost the same rates as eibach and assume both are progressive ?
  12. which dampers go with prodrive springs?
  13. Sorry guys I'm picking your brains again. Taking stock of this years excellent fling I'm looking at improving handling again. The blob was better this year with 22mm rear arb and droplinks (all whiteline), a set of F1's was also a major factor and we never really came unstuck but car feels "floaty" and not planted enough on any bend that is less than smooth. There's obviously a fair bit of roll on standard 34000 mile suspension as well. Looking to fix this with lower springs and new shocks but not sure about coilovers. Don't want to ruin already so so ride quality, so any suggestions? Was offered prodrive springs on the Fing but struggling to remember by who!!! Car is WRX '05 with inverted struts so is a swap to sti suspension or Hawkeye gear an option that would meet my needs? Cheers
  14. Yes totally agree, big thanks to Dave and everyone involved for a great weekend, safe with perfect weather. Just wonder which bit of tarmac everyone enjoyed most though suppose it depends where you get a decent run and who is running with you at the time. I nominate the last section into Portree with Kenny and probably Clunie dam to Loch Lochy with NKWRX though not quite so sure about leading!!!! Don't like fast single track (especially with Skye bumps etc (we were warned), leaders nightmare I'm sure.
  15. Yea it was a good read, makes a change to get some "normal" priced cars tested, also enjoyed the Litchfield/RS Focus/RS3 article a few months back. A shame Subaru couldn't see the lack of power/torque issue though, especially when a bog standard classic turbo (97P with 100k on it for goodness sakes) can still leave it behind. Just shows how good the Impreza was from day one.
  16. Good read on new BRZ though pity engine is of V-Tec type performance ie nothing below 5000rpm, needs a turbo and 50++bhp to really shine. Also great to see it reviewed against a 1997 Classic Impreza Turbo and be left in it's wake. I for one don't really think the performance car market (at a reasonable price) has improved or even matched the Impreza 1996-2007 breed or even 205 Gti etc from 10 years earlier, it's just a lot safer for the average punter. Some of the Renaultsport kit may be the exception though. The Bealach Na Ba article was nothing special so hope it doesn't encourage too many to sample the run especially next weekend!!
  17. thanks Barry, got some grease with arb, can I use any type of grease on droplinks? presume if I am generous with grease on all moving bits /bushes that will be ok? Myles
  18. Can anyone tell me torque settings for wl rear arb and droplinks please. Cheers
  19. may have Sussed it, told today its probably abs on the verge of cutting in giving vibration, if so I must have been trying harder than I thought and the f1s must be very sticky on good dry Tarmac. does that sound feasible?
  20. not doing it till I swaped winter tyres for goodyears! any other thoughts guys? what are symptoms of pad deposits on discs Dave?
  21. Went for a wee run today to scrub in new F1's and was getting an odd noise when braking hard. Sounded like driving on tarmac that is damaged by caterpillar tracks giving a vibration and noise. I run grooved discs which drive and look fine but suspect it may be the tyre tread (asymetric 2's) caused by one degree neg camber loaded on inner tread edges. Has anyone else experienced this? Really looking forward to the Fling now especially if we can get more of this weather. Just a service and Whiteline ARB to do and we're all set.
  22. Let us know how the whiteline additions go once up and running. Waiting for rear ARB just now. See my PM.
  23. 1. Braveheart - Classic - 2.35 - 641bhp 600 lbs/ft 2. Wrx Kenny - bugeye - 2.5 - 311bhp 365 lbs/ft 3. badbaz - best looking one - only 2.0 - enough 4. adz-wrx - blobeye wrx - 2.0 - 235bhpish and no idea lol 5. highlandflyer blob wrx 2.0 ppp 265bhp 257lbft
