Morning dudes. << Nice one Dave dude , I was thinking of getting the 20d , but the 350d is a bit lighter and it has the same 8.2 mega- pix as the 20d.. >> This is it Andi, as I said when we were watching the rally I couldn?t justify £200 extra for the 20D which is essentially the same camera. But I don?t mind an extra £45, so I thought what the hell.

Started rebuilding today, first step clean/degrease the components; As can be seen the second unit has turned up. It appears to have come from car that had a blow up by the amount of oil on the turbine blades; Turbine housings cleaned; Components degreased; All ready for assembly; New snap rings installed to retain the new bearings; Then fit turbine shaft back in with new piston ring; Fit new thrust bearing with original thrust ring plus new O-ring; Next oil deflector and new piston ring; Alloy insert and new snap ring; Next line up the turbine wheel with the main housing, with the marks made before disassembly. Then fit the compressor wheel again lining up the marks then fit shaft nut with some thread lock just to make sure, then torque up. One completed main housing, no play in the shaft and far smoother rotation; Then fit completed main housing to turbine housing and re fit clamp; New oil return gasket; Re fit oil return pipe; Modding the compressor housing next.

<< I Guess you'll be wanting a ride round in ours then!! >> Any excuse for a lap.

Lol, welcome to the mad house!

<< << Afternoon dudes... Got my new toy today..... I have a new Canon EOS 350 d camera Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet >> Me too.! Silver or Black? make sure you get the fastest ram you can for it, you can then let it continiously snap away storing RAW files with wanton abandon. MORNING >> Lol, must be the time of month, just bought a 20D. Was going to get a 350D as Andi knows, but found a bargain on E-Bay £45 more than the 350D kit with slight use.

<< Just had a call from the garage. They have fixed the leak and were running the car to see if it was OK but it now looks like the head gasket has gone. It should be covered under the warranty, but I asked them when I took it in was it the head gasket and I was assured no. >> Bummer Andy. But if its under warranty all is not lost.

Afternoon dudes! << No Grant, still planning on getting them painted although the gold looks better than I thought it might. >> Nice shade of pink would look good Jim?

Afternoon dudes. Car is going off the road again I think, just spoke to Steve and confirmed that the popping and banging on lift off is due to bad leaning out. Sounds cool though.lol

I've got 2x 215/35/18 F1 gd3s slightly warn in the garage somewhere, will check tonight.

Power is the raw data from the ecu/engine, so it's the flywheel with not transmission loss. I have a formula for drag loss with the impreza drag coefficient and transmission loss but it dont work yet, only 20bhp/ftlbs lower. Found on the web that on average a evo/impreza 4x4 tranny looses about 24%, thus should be about 205bhp & 213ftlbs @ the wheels.

Rebuild kits turned up yesterday; Need to get one of them sorted asap due to mapping requirements being brought forward due to running lean. Did a few power runs yesterday with the logger to try and find the problem with the leaning out issue, but no solution as of yet. Will have a word with Steve Simpson tomorrow and see if something can be resolved. Also I had a play with some formulas in the logging software to produce horsepower and torque graphs. Initial tests where great I was getting bhp/ftlbs in the thousands!! but I don?t think the car is making that much some how. Spotted a few errors in the formulas and a result. Initially I was sceptical about this working, taking all the variables into account drive train loss, ambient temp, etc.... And the fact that the car is not running right anyway and the last dyno graph I have for comparison/control was with headers on and done mid summer. 270bhp & 272ftlbs 44bhp down; Overlaid; Not bad figures as the standard Type R should make 280.0 bhp @ 6500 rpm & 256.0 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm However I noticed that I was slowly lifting off the throttle from about 3500rpm according to the throttle log! WOT from 2500rpm with a slight loss to 3500rpm then it tails off till I lifted at 6000rpm, didn?t want to run it to the redline whilst running lean plus peak power shouldn?t be far off 6000rpm. So for the final confirmation I superimposed the plot over my TEG dyno run matching the power from 53bhp @ 2400rpm to its peak at 270bhp @ 5200rpm. And to my surprise it's fairly accurate, I checked the power and torque per 500rpm and they matched up to 3500rpm when I was lifting off the throttle and it starts to come on boost and lean out. The peak torque of 284ftlbs @ 4500rpm also matches the scale on the TEG graph. Blue line = torque Green line = bhp

Was a good meet, excluding the weather and the fact that I took a different route. But then I wasn?t the only one was I Andy.

The Apexi will come with a base map, admittedly it's a JDM map but you just alter it to UK fuel and start from there. Jim (Cret) is the man for Apexi, he fitted his a few month ago and is driving round on a tweaked base map with no probs, full decat to. Jim & myself are just getting into mapping so couldn't fully map it, however I think Jim is looking to get Andy F to map his some time in the future so you could split the cost then and get him over. I'm sure Jim will post on here with plenty of info for you; he has also got the datalogit software so you can plug the laptop in instead of using the commander. I would say fit the Apexi on the base map, with a few tweaks from Jim, and then make sure you get a knocklink as a minimum and see how it goes. This is Jim's website UK Legacy look under ECUs & Mapping.

<< Not broke a turbo then Dave? Evening all >> Lol. No, well not yet anyway! I'm going twin turbo........ Only joking, just being greedy, found an other TD05 with lower mileage at a good price so thought rebuilding 2 is just as easy as 1. Then I can sell the second one and make some money. Morning dudes.

1. Yes it will be a little more quite, mine did when I put my un-equal headers on (off the car at mo but going back on), but with the blitz I don?t think you will notice. 2. You get around 30bhp/30lbft, but you also push the turbo spool point up the rev range by about 300rpm. Feels a little bit more laggy but when it comes in it will hit harder. Also to take full advantage of them you are best to go full de-cat, this will also bring the noise back up, so you should end up as you are at the mo. This is also why I sold my Blitz, it was fine until I de-catted the downpipe then all hell broke loose, 5mins driving and you had a headache! 3. No, I wouldn't recommend it, the more you free up the flow the more risk of detonation etc. But it's the old situation, you could and have no problems but on the other hand, it's all a gamble. Take it your not selling now then?

<< Not sure what is wrong with the car. It has a very bad idle at the mo and sometimes the whole car will vibrate when the car has just been started, but it generally goes away after a few mins of driving. The heating has just stopped working and there is a lot of steam/smoke coming from the exhaust, but not sure if this is because the car is not properly warmed up. It is due for a service so going to get it in and checked out. Not really wanting to drive the car much at the mo just incase there is something wrong. >> Hopefully it's something simple Andy like lambda sensor or MAF. Did the heating go at the same time though? As that could point to a water pump/thermostat issue.

Also had confirmation from Gems today that the ecu fault was indeed the voltage resistor. So all repaired and hope to have it tomorrow if not Saturday.

Some more toys turned up in the post today. Yet an other strut brace! And it came in pink just so it match's the rear; Also a master brake cylinder strengthener, with pink washer!; Think that can of matt black spray on the shelf may get used.

<< Morning dudes The GSXR is gonna be getting some good lovin over the next few weeks. Service, new brake pads, new chain and sprocket kit, new tyres, undertray etc etc. Sweeet! >> You given up on the car situation then Jimmy? Talking of which, anyone interested in a white UK Turbo 95/96 3995k ono?

<< Nice one Dave ,Look-in good bud.....Went past your place today and there was some cow SH1T on your road... I would hate going down there everytime I wanted to go out in the car... >> Aye, it's all over the place. And what a stink, mind it clears the head when you got a cold!
