I would be up for this, the original McRae Gathering was a truly great occasion. Not sure if this would be relevant but I think I saw the other day that the world record set at the original McRae Gathering was broken by some Scoobies in Russia. They used 1241 Subarus to spell out Subaru Team Russia. If you got the numbers, would you want to get it back?

BBC TV Website agrees with that. Scheduled for Sunday January 27th at 10.00pm. BBC2 and BBC2 HD. They are repeating the 1st episode with Stirling Moss this Sunday at 9.00pm

It should have been the episode shown on 28th Dec. Looking at other sites I gather the BBC pulled it citing "contractual problems" and showed Jackie Stewart episode instead. I haven't seen it but I gather Sir Chris Hoy said on Twitter that he didn't know why the programme was not shown on the 28th. I don't know how to confirm the above but currently the BBC TV website does not say when the 3rd episode will be shown but the Racing Legends series is still shown as having three episodes with episode three still to be aired.

I must be getting old, not sure if I have any better idea about what is happening. I will have to go see it when it comes out.

An apology really. For what it is worth, I enjoy browsing the forums and finding out what others think, this is a truly great source of entertainment and knowledge but I don't, and this is the apology, post often. Mostly because I don't, usually, know enough to really add to a discussion but it is also a confidence thing because if I do think I know what I am talking about (very rare) I am afraid of saying something that others find controversial. Part of the problem is being a neo-luddite and having no understanding of social media.

Definitely lenses first, a good camera with a bad lens will nearly always produce a bad picture. Also, once you have decided which camera you like, so long as you stick with it, you can take your lenses with you if you upgrade. One note of caution, and I only know this about Canon but it might be the same for Nikon and other manufacturers, some lenses do not work with all cameras. For example Canon make a series of lenses specifically for their digital SLRs, called the EF-S range which will not work on all their cameras because the sensor which captures the picture is bigger on some of their more expensive models. Their standard lenses, the EF range work on all (or the majority of) their digital cameras but the focal lengths are increased for the cameras with the smaller sensors. i.e. on the 30D a 100mm lens acts like a 160mm lens would on a 35mm film camera or the 5D, which Canon describe as a full frame sensor. I've found that the differences in cameras tend to be at the margins within given price bands. I started with an entry level Canon (The D300) and have upgraded twice now but stuck with Canon. One benefit of this is that I have been able to keep the lenses I bought for the first camera. What you will find is that it is the lenses that make the difference as good lenses always improve the output. However, I have come to find that with a DSLR there is always a good excuse for getting new lenses because each one will be better for specific types of picture. Also, if you want to take landscapes that are sharp front to back and not use photoshop you will need a tripod, because to get a good depth of field in focus you need the aperture on your camera to be smaller so it takes longer for the light to get in, thus a longer shutter speed, and hand held this results in almost certain wobble and nothing in focus. Anyway I hope you find a camera you like and have fun with it.

Hi Grant, I was at Rallyday, my car parked on the SIDC stand, we spoke towards the end of the day and I was genuinely upset when you told me of your experience earlier. Being shy I hadn't spoken to many of the other members, only those parked in the spaces nearest my car but everyone I spoke to was friendly. I have to say that, especially after all your and Imy's work on the McRae Gathering (a truly great experience and wonderful tribute to a most amazing man) and the McRae Vision stand, I hold you both in high esteem and would be upset that you let this one man tarnish your links with the club. I hope I will see you again in the future and that you will reconsider your decision to leave SIDC. Simon

As a fairly inactive member of the club can I say that I am worried that this looks worryingly like we all hate each other because of where we hail from. We do need to accept though that the club is a democracy and we don't always get what we want or necessarily what we think is right. I have genuine sympathy for Shescooby, who has done stirling work throughout my four years of membership and who I will admit to voting for. BUT I would also like to congratulate the winners of the vote, they put forward their vision of the club and more people voted for them. I intendto remain a member and look forward to supporting the new committee in much the same way (i.e. fairly inactively) as I did the last. Please lets not turn this into a regional them and us. Life is too short.

Does seem a bit odd, 1 million dollar fine for copying someones car, lives at risk nil. 2 year suspended disqualification for deliberately crashing, lives put at risk more than one. But the FIA is never consistent, look at the penalty Citroen got for breakingte rules in the WRC in Australia. A cynic might suggest that a time penalty that only altered the standings a little bit and has now made the end of the season a little more exciting is so much more in the interests of the championship organisers. I don't know why they don't just take away everyones points at the end of the penultimate race and leave it down to the last race to decide the championship. Nail biting stuff down to the wire.
