  1. My phone contract is almost up, I'm considering an iPhone, I did before this contract TBH but ended up not going for it.

What's the downside to owning one?

Things that need to be considered for me below, will these be an issue?

1/ I text a lot in a month (over 1200 texts) a bolt on gets me unlimited texts but can anyone criticise texting via the iPhone?

2/ I work in a hostile environment and my phones tend to get dropped (very occasionally), need a good cover but it's got to be practical for lots of use. Views on this?

3/ Is it a gimmick or is it a real asset? Will I wish it was just a phone after a month?

4/ Where, if any, does an iPhone really fall down?

Cue I love it verses I hate it!

That's what I want: people's experience with the thing.

  2. So who spat their Sunday Lunch all over their plasma on Sunday afternoon as the leader of the World Touring Car race 2 came round the corner doing at least a ton and parked his BM in the side of an unbelievably stationary Pace (or not so Pacey) Car?

If you've not seen it try and find it, it's priceless!

  3. might be better sending him a email (keep it short eg. can you give me a date to get ma car mapped ive got all supporting mods) ...more or likely hes out allday everyday mapping very busy guy

He's sent emails plural. I'll tell him the tactics. Cheers!

  4. A friend of mine has been trying to get in touch with Andy for a remap for a few weeks now but no joy.

He's got all his upgrade parts and is chomping at the bit now.

Anyone know the position with workload or whatever?

  5. Baz, Just had a look on Whiteline's website, and sure enough, they have a very detailed article on teh Anti Lift Kit...

    http://www.whiteline.com.au/articles/Effec...0WL%20ALK_b.pdf

Check out the Whitline website, plenty of good info on there, and they generally are not wrong...

EDIT: also to add, Geo (Cusco Kid did some very nice threads about just such a subject, you should check them out... he REALLY knows what he's talking about...)

Tried their site yesterday and couldn't get on. I'll try again later.

I'll have a look for Cusco Kid's threads thanks :brickwall:

  6. hi mate,Dales not far wrong- ive an 05 sti that ive had since new and have only just got happy with the handling

    mine has

h brace-connects the bottom of the struts to chasis

    top strut brace front

anti lift kit- increases castor to keep more of the tyre on the ground more of the time

bc sports coilover suspension adjustable ride height and damping

for me the coilovers and proper setup were the best improvement ive made to the car and i love them, closely followed by the h brace, aurprised by the difference for a cheap 20 minute fit part!

if you want a run sometime to see the effect give us a shout

    cheers Dave

Can you explain H Brace better, are you meaning bottom arms?

The anti-lift kit has been given a couple of different descriptions now. What is the real purpose and can someone explain it's position on the car, connections etc.?

BC coilovers mentioned, Whiteline parts, what's differences, price, quality, just personal choice?

  7. Well there is plenty threads on just this subject mate, but really it depends on what kind of level of drive-ability your after, and what you want the car for, ie: is it a daily runner...

I can't be very good at using the search facility on here! It's not a daily driver, it's a toy. It's a pretty standard toy at the moment, engine and exhaust aside. The way I'm looking at it is the car probabaly won't sell for good money anymore. It's a good, straight base to start with so why not modify and make it a very serious toy? I'd like to keep it road legal but aim it at track days too. So maybe ultimately extreme road and mild for the track. I'm thinking roll cage, stripped out, etc. etc.

Think the best place to start would probably be, upgrade the Rear Anti Roll Bar to a 22mm, and Drop Links all round, that's just for starters, not too expensive, but real good mods to improve the handling.

Fair comment, I'm a mechanic to trade but have hardly spent a minute under my Impreza. Why the drop links?

Then from there, you can be fitting the H-Brace, the Anti Lift Kit, replace the rubber bushes with Poly bushes and Strut Braces, although, some say that the impreza doesn't need strut braces, as the chassis is pretty solid anyways...

What's an H-Brace? Clearly something to make what rigid exactly? Can't begin to fathom what an Anti Lift Kit is or is for? Except reduce lift obviously!! Of what? Bushes, yes probably. If going for a welded cage will this not make the chassis mega stiff negateing the need for strut braces?

Of course, you also want to think about your suspension too, if the rears are knocking again, then it might not hurt to get them replaced now, then take them off and save them for a rainy day. The fit Coilovers... but again depends on how harsh you want the ride to be... Some people dont mind the ride on some Coilovers, but again, is it a daily driver...? how much could you live with? Also, some Coilovers are better than others, just a case of seeing what the guys will recomend... theres a few popular sets out there...

Out of warranty so any money will be going on replacement suspension. The car won't be going back to standard ever. So we wait for the recommendations, would have to be able to live with the craters on some of the roads out here, wouldn't want to need to swerve to miss a red chip lying in the road from someones driveway. But would be looking for something serious for the track days. Compromise required here.

And finally, once you get that sorted, remember and get your Geometry done...

I've considered equipment for doing geometry before, this might be just the time to have a new business acquisition!

    Thanks for the advice

  8. Had a nosey around and can't find the info I'm seeking, want to get my suspension in order and don't know what route to go down.

I can remember reading about the rear shock problem with these and in fact shocks were replaced under warranty about 10k ago. They've started to make the occasional bump again and I feel the suspension isn't really a strong point of my Scoob.

I realise this will be a preference thing, money limited etc., but who's done what to their car and to what degree of success? Is there a no brainer route or is it each to their own? I also can remember reading of either anti dive or anti lift kit. What the hell are they, is someone giving another suspension component an odd name? Please correct me and/or explain please.

Things to consider, don't want the car scraping along the deck, roads out here in places are woeful! Money is not the decider, quality, guarantee, adjustment etc. Slight possibility that I'm gonna start to head down the route of serious mods to the chassis and power in time to make an effective road and track car. Don't want to go mental but I'm keeping my options open!

Figure since car now at 340bhp, time to sort the chassis before venturing back under the bonnet.

  9. you seem sensible enough, you should take charge if no one else volunteers :P

Thanks Imy, praise indeed from a mega organiser!!

Good to know I'm not steaming in without the required authorisation.

Just gotta see how many will go for the date to get things up and running.

Do you think I should post it in events too just now, just in case? :D

    13/ badbaz's workmate : 6 miles

Numbers getting up now. A few wishing to travel as well for a wee nosey so that's good. I think we should keep it round about a fortnight away from Glasgow, I don't know when the other 'closest' meets are don't want to clash with them either, although two meets meeting on a run could be interesting?? Do you follow?

Big J says Saturdays are out. I'd like to avoid Friday & Saturday nights too because of family commitments. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are also difficult for me at the moment. I realise this will not suit everyone and there will always be something that clashes with someone's plans.

Why don't we provisionally say the third Thursday of the month and see what response we get? I'll leave it in this thread just now till I get some agreement before I start one in Events.

Do I need permission to hold a meet? Who want's to be in charge? I'm not mad keen but I'll do it if I need to! Can someone in the know let me know if this is all ok? Please?

So, answers on a post here please. The third Thursday of the month will be May 21st. How's that sound for a 7pm meet at the loch and a 730pm run out somewhere? There's a Shell station in Lanark for the obligatory optimax. It would all fit quite nicely?

  11. Ten who seem keen, can we head for a day then, Saturday looking popular but I can only do every alternate Saturday. Is everyone against a week night?

Nobody's stepping up to organise the run either!

Someone want to plump for a day/date and then we'll work from there?

    4/ StrikE : ????

    5/ J10 DLY : 15-20mins

    6/ evil_scoobs - 21 miles

    7/ st3ph3n - 17 miles

grrr, why's noone playing at list making? :D

Quite a few already, what about a date? Prob best not to clash with other meet days/week so people could do both if they have the time/money. Thoughts please. . . .

  13. Result!

Some interest then and it's been thought of before!

Lanark loch carpark would be a reasonable meet point, there's the restaurant/pub thing there too so toilets and a place to meet in the winter months. The car park's at the end of a residential area but as long as there's no silly noise where's the crime in meeting up there?

The meet day could be polled to see what was best for everyone, we'd never please all of the people all of the time.

How many others must there be? Come on keep em coming.

    Anyone up for organising?

Add to the list if you defo up for it:

    1/ badbaz : 1/2mile from Lanark

    2/ TPS -SCOOB : 12 miles

    3/ boab type ra : 10mins

  14. 1/ badbaz : 1/2mile from Lanark - yes to a Lanark meet

    2/ TPS -SCOOB : 12 miles - yes

Woo hoo! One? Only one? There's gotta be more, surely?

If gonna post, put your name on the list, can we have the approx distance to Lanark?

Ideally someone with a passion for organising meetings will take this on board?? :o

Maybe all the scoobs I see out here have never heard of SIDC?

    Come on everyone!

TPS -SCOOB, are you new to the scene? What scoob do you have?
