Hi dave and welcome. We're not that bad......really!
-
I work at Metrobus, which is just down the road. This was a great tragedy and if, as suspected, David Leslie was on board then I pass my condolences to the family. His escapades in the Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier were indeed heroic

I found a website that lists all the gearbox codes TY752xxxxxxx, TY754xxxxxx, etc, etc, and the cars they are for so have a pretty good idea what I'm looking for.
-
Not yet. I continued to use the car for a couple of days afterwards not using 2nd gear but I then noticed that reverse was starting to make the same noises so I've not driven it since. While it still moves, I will search for a replacement 'box and then drive the car to somewhere to get it done. All being well, I'm getting a box on Monday from a written off (front ender) 2000 Impreza. This should be a straight swap shouldn't it (assuming its a UK box otherwise the diff too)

I think Essex Racing may do some as well. Try them too.

You don't call it Christine by any chance do you?

Sorry, should have added - mileage is about 80000, so it's not a heavy mileage for a 97 car
-
Power was estimated at the TDi day at about 340bhp - torque was a similar figure. It has been suggested it may be the synchromesh. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. I will have seen a couple on ebay for a few hundred quid so maybe that is the way forward. Martin

I've just driven home from work. All was fine. I pulled into Sainsburys and did a bit of shopping on my way home. When I came away from Sainsburys, I went for 2nd gear and it went into 2nd without problem. The car pulls in 2nd gear. However, there is a horrible ratchety sound coming from somewhere now, but only while its in 2nd. I take it this is probably terminal for the gearbox? Can anybody advise? Worst case scenario, does anybody know where I might get a gearbox (fitted) for a 97 classic? Jolly Green? Is this your field? What sort of cost might this be? Martin

Ian When my car was uprated, it was fitted with an 18G turbo. I have had no problems at all on my '97 Classic, which still has the original gearbox, so I would say go for it! I have been informed that the original gearboxes are good for about 340bhp (at the flywheel) before they starting lunching themselves? Martin

You aren't the only one. When we went to TDI and I was stood behind my car on the dyno, the smell of fuel was very obvious!

Agreed. I went to see Madness just before Christmas and used the bus and getting away from there was a breeze. Conversely, I drove a bus up there about 3 weeks ago when the tube went down for rail replacement just as the Spice Girls were kicking out and I got stuck in the car traffic for about 90 minutes trying to get in and out of the place. It's also worth noting that the car parks on site charge £20 for the privelege of using their 60 sq ft. If you can, park just away from the place like in Charlton or East Greenwich and hop on the bus into the place. Will save you lots of time and money

I work 7pm to 7am running a bus garage in Orpington on a week on / week off shift. Seems there's quite a few of us night boys around then
-
Now I keep hearing rumours its Ben Collins, but I've never seen or heard anything to substantiate it. Definately Perry McCarthy was before - they killed him off with the aircraft carrier thing when he publicly admitted to it in his autobiography. Martin
-
And to you Ian. Sadly, I have to work tonight too - indeed, there are extra buses on the road tonight which I will have my eye over. Best wishes to all here for 2008. Martin
-
Not me matey - at that time I was on duty at Liverpool Street Stn supervising rail replacement coaches (boring I know - but paid far too well to moan about)
-
I have two 1/5th scale R/C cars - a Porsche 911 and a McLaren F1 car. Did used to go up the Palace to race them, but time has been scarce over the last year so they've sat on the shelf. Must get them out again

Good! People who drink drive shouldn't be out on the streets. As for New Cross - my way home last consisted of Blackfriars, Elephant, the A2 to New Cross, then the A20 and I didn't see anything. It would have been midnight when I went through New Cross. It doesn't matter. I got home safely and without incident - that's all I care about!
-
I know - I came over Blackfriars Bridge last night at about 11.45pm and they seemed to be stopping random cars

Can I just thank Granby for organising an enjoyable day and put in writing my gratitude to TDI for having us today. They readily admit they run these days to drum up business, but even so, they still gave their time freely and were happy to chat about anything! Martin

Some of the pictures that I took today..... I also have a video of my run, which I will post the link to shortly. It's uploading to YouTube as I write this..... Martin
