  1. Car came with Pirelli P7000's. Still loads of tread left before I get F1's. Tyre pressure is about 34 all round.
  2. Cheers for that. I'm happy that..... A) I'm not too much of a daftie!! [] and the car's just fine. I'll 'test' the road again in the dry. Know what you mean about all the agricultural vehicles etc!!
  3. Hi folks, Quick query for you..... Driving the road from Lugton to Beith (for those that know it) this morning. The road was a wee bit damp and heading into a bend, not too tight....and I felt the back end slide out a tad. Further along the road I thought I'd test this and managed to do it again. Doing about 60mph which didn't seem too fast for the road. Been on that road a lot in my old Volvo V40 and it never happened although I would maybe only take the same bend at 50mph. This being my first Scoob, I just wanted to ask..... 1) Did I turn the steering wheel too much? (the power steering is a lot better than my old car) 2) Something not quite right with the car? 3) or just a tad too fast?[:$] Just after re-assurance I guess. I do find that 60 feels slower than 50 does in our other car and maybe I was getting carried away thinking that I'm driving a rally bred car and it could handle anything! Certainly didn't feel too fast. Probably just me.....[] I've read about drop links being a cheap mod. Don't really know what they are or what they do! Someone else has stated that they're only worth it on cars 3 - 4.5yrs old? Mine's is a MY05 WRX. Cheers.....if it was just me, then that's good news. I'll remind myself 'YOU ARE NOT RICHARD BURNS/COLIN MCCRAE' etc etc
  4. No worries. I'll go to either Chameleon in Renfrew or Carrick Engineering in Prestwick and I'm sure they'll be able to sort out something I like. Just have to explain to the wife that it REALLY needs doing!
  5. The difference with bumps is that there's no-one to say if anyone was speeding. People might be able to say, 'They seemed to be going fast' but that wouldn't stand up in court. The next offence would be careless driving but if it's anything like Dumbarton Sheriff Court, if it's non injury....no proceedings. Normal Joe Publice drivers involved may well just be put on a driver improvement scheme rather than get points etc.
  6. Did they just caution and charge you then because of the speed you were doing in that particular zone? Sounds like it, otherwise you would've been given an endorsable conditional offer and they would've explained that it was 3pts and £60. I take it you weren't given a ticket?
  7. When I recently got insured with Keith Michaels via Gary, I asked him about the Tracker that's been fitted on my car (by previous owner and still to be activated) and he said it would only knock about £20 off the premium. Guess it's just for peace of mind that you might get the car back. Think it's common for thieves to steal a car and leave it somewhere public. If it's there a few days later, they know there's no tracking device fitted. Mind you, if they car's nicked from your house, will they just come back....better prepared?
  8. My wheels are the standard 17's that came with the car....would they be the PFF7's as well or have you changed? After a previous post, I've bought the Swissol cleaner fluid and wheel wax. It's great for being able to wipe the brake dust off, just that the wheels are too far gone. It would be nice to start afresh!
  9. Ref the post from G.Mac about Chameleon Powder Coatings in Renfrew....just phoned them and the bloke seems a good guy and seems to know what he's talking about. Car can be booked in for 9am-5.30pm same day service and they'll take the wheels off, refurb and then balance the wheels etc. Said that would come in about £220. Is that good? Only point is that he said he might not be able to match the existing colour that goes with the Crystal Grey of the car. He does have anthracite, which I wondered if it would be too dark, but he said the powder contains a 'sparkle'......just sparkles in the sunlight. Has anyone seen this? I'll go and see him in person and post again.....just in case anyone might be interested etc. At least with the same day service.....the wife wouldn't know I'd spent the money! Would she notice a different colour??? [*-)]
  10. Cheers for that...and the others. I did do a search...honest!!...but I think I kept it in Car Care section.
  11. Hi folks, Can anyone point me in the right direction to get my alloys looking like new again? Even though it's only a MY05, the previous owner has kerbed the alloys and it seems that some of the original paint (is it paint??[:$]) has flaked off a wee bit....and there's a few bits of 'pitting' from the brake dust etc. A Google search came up with Recoat or Wheel Centre Scotland? I carried out a forum search but it didn't come up with anything for my area......don't think I could drive to Perth to go to Coatech! Cheers Oh, maybe one for Colzo or anyone else who has their car in Crystal Grey.....should I stick to the original colour or would anthracite look good with the grey? Too dark??
  12. Blimey....that's where I bought my car a few weeks ago and had planned to take it there to be serviced! That's 2 with a negative......anyone got a positive or should I be getting my servicing done elsewhere? I live near Beith so S&S is relatively handy but I don't mind going into Glasgow. My car certainly seems fine to me so far......
  13. Oh, meant to ask......do any members live near to Rhu Road Higher and drive a blue STI. Lovely car....no SIDC stickers.
  14. Being a newbie and all.....would fitting braided hoses to start with see an improvement with the braking? Just got the car so discs/pads etc are ok....but there's nothing like planning ahead!!! Would probably start with just pads.....seems like the Ferodos are popular?
  15. Halfords are doing 3 for 2 on all their car cleaning range and have some of the products mentioned.
  16. Hello and welcome from one newbie to another. [Y]
  17. Hopefully I'll keep it that way! Just waiting for my order to come through from Swissol.....although I popped into Halfords today and saw they had loads of Meguiars (sp?) products. 3 for 2 as well. Might stock up!!!
  18. B*****ds! [8o|] Think it was an opportunist trying your garage on the way past or maybe they had cased the place if they left the power tools behind? Do you mind telling me if your garage was secured at all or left open? Reason I ask is that I've just placed one of those Garage Defenders in front of mine. Sold Secure they say.....unless they got past yours! What goes around comes around.....they'll get theirs!
  19. Mod?? But the car is more than powerful enough! And I'm nearly 34yrs old!! ...................er, watch this space!!! [] Give me time to get all the advice from the good forum members!! Although on day one of having the car I did mention to 'the wife' about getting it lowered. Mmmmmm. []
  20. Might be a daft question but I'll have to ask....I'm thinking that the important thing here is the RON? So, it wouldn't matter if I'm putting in vpower one day and then the next time it's Optimax/Tesco 99 etc?
  21. Ok, here goes.....I've taken a picture so I'll try to add it!
  22. Cheers. Linwood is good for me. I never thought car ownership could be so complicated! []
  23. Hi folks, Looking for some help here. Picked my car up yesterday and the dealer left me about half a tank as they do. I'm driving about today thinking I would just fill up with Tesco 99 etc from Tesco Kilbirnie. I'm getting near to empty and then go and see that Kilbirnie don't have it!!! So, can anyone direct me to a suitable garage as my next trip out will have to be straight there! [:$] Thanks
