  1. i'm currently going through a claim with elephant and for a few reasons i'm worried that they will not pay up. not least the decat factor, and the 18" wheels. everything else on the car is standard... do you think arnold clark repairers will report the car as 'modified' and elephant pull out?

I am with Elephant at the moment but not that impressed with them. They wheren't interested in my claim and just wanted to settle as soon as possible. They agreed with the third party that I was liable before they had even spoken to me!

I am pretty fed up with them, in particular their Indian call centre and am going to give Keith Micheals a go at renewal time.

When I claimed, I refused point blank to let Arnold Clark (their approved repairer) within a 100 miles of the car, so they sent an assessor to check the damage against the quote I got from my own garage. He looked at the damage but absolutely nothing else. Didn't look for mods or ask about anything. So I think you will be ok.

Incidently, my decat and wheels don't add anything to the premium but are declared.

  2. You get problems with any car. My mother had a new BMW a couple of years back. It went wrong on average once a month and had to get towed three times. Ok, so everything was getting done under warranty but after 18 months they were so fed up they just got shot of it. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You can be unlucky with any car and I am not overly concerned.

If it breaks, modify it, and make it even better than before - No, get thoughts out of head - hide credit card!

  3.  Perhaps they are just trying to catch people out now.

Yeah? Isn't that what they have always been doing? [:D]

    LOL

I mean going back to how it used to be. Hiding rather than being a visual deterrent. We will be getting Gatsos hiding behind signposts again next! [:D]<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  4. I thought Strathclyde Police's Scamera vans were all stickered up. Saw one out on the A737 near me not so long ago and it was all marked up. It was a Transit however. Perhaps they are just trying to catch people out now.

  5. Below are questions that were in today's quiz.  Answers will be posted later.

    Lets see if anyone can get 10 out of 10<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  6. Was down at Meercat myself last week for a brief chat about the options for my exhaust - well the car was never going to stay standard for ever [;)]!  They had actually said that to me about 'off the shelf' sections banging against bits underneath being quite common. They just need a bit of tweaking for a better fit. Kilbirnie is a bit far from Airdrie but I am sure they would sort you out without too much bother.

  7. Don't think it really is much smaller. Remember seeing dimensions and I don't think it was really any smaller a wheel base than the current car.

I will wait and see a real one but the photochopped/disguised STI has grown on me. Also, after initially loving the new EVO, having now seen the pics of a real one on the Ring, I am liking it less!

  8. Good night apart from the midges. Will need to bring my midge hat complete with net that I use at rallies the next time! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Need to clear a space on the credit card as I always seem to have the quietest car there! Must rectify!

  9. Hello and welcome. Stunning looking motor you have there! Black is definitely the best colour! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

What do you use to get the paintwork looking like that? Spent a long time claying and polishing mine in the spring but you can still see the swirls.

  10. I was told that recently too. I had been planning to get them to put on my new tyres afterwards rather than the old ones. I was told that tyre removal and refitting wasn't included anyway. Not what it says on the sticky? [:S]

  11. Looking for new rubber for my WRX. Got a mate with a Celica GT4 who swears by Avon ZZ3s. I have never used Avons so was wondering if anyone ran then and if they were any good?

Would be quite a saving against a Goodyear or Toyo but then cheap is not neccessarily the best.

    Cheers.

  12. The change to the hatch is not necessarily the problem, it is the fact it just looks so bland although undoubtedly the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />US saloon looks better. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I think that the greenies have seen off the WRX as they want to sell more normally aspirated models in an effort to reduce the range's CO2 emissions. I think I read that 70% of Imprezas sold have been turbo models so regardless of the reasoning it seems a pretty bizarre move not to sell the WRX here.

I think they have a really hard sell ahead of them as they will no doubt lose many WRX customers who don't want to or aren't able to step up to the STI. They will lose customers because it is a hatchback and they will lose customers who just don't like it.

I think it will be difficult to sell such an anonymous bland hatchback to a whole new customer base. However we can only assume that Subaru know their market and know something we don't.

As for the STI, I like what I have seen so far, all be it just the photochopped versions. The current STI is a long way from the base model 1.5 Wagon! I could live with a hatchback and as long as they manage to beef up the styling a bit to make it more aggressive and Impreza like so I am looking forward to seeing one for real! Just need to find the money to trade up to an STI!!

  13. Joe,

Try the Admiral Group (ie admiral, elephant or Bell direct) I've insured all of my scoobs thru them.

    Gus

I am with Elephant and never again. They seem fine and cheap until you have to claim! But I won't get started on that one!

Gav, if this was 2 years from now I might just have been biting your arm off for one of your WRXs!! But I don't think you will have a new WRX in 2 years time [:'(]
