big power cars never are mate
would be good to see it on the road again though
-
shiny cars are overrated colin, when you hoping to have it
up and running in anger?
-
Awesome!
What turbo is the old one? What's it good for BHPwise?
the old 1 is a vf34 john which your using already
good for 350bhp
You will hardly be able to sleep at the moment with all the excitmentWhen you hedding up to Crail
Higgy
lol a bottle of wine usually helps the insomnia
hoping to be ready for end of may if i can get a
map time sorted
-
got quite a bit done on the car today
started by making a gasket for and fitting new throttle body
fitted new fuel rails
fitted engine back in
headers next
wrapped and fitted them and up-pipe
old and new turbo
turbo fitted
also took off gearbox cradle to fit new shifter bushes but they had already been
done so thats another part to add to the for sale list lol

cheers chris, ill try and get a list of the bits and pieces for sale over the weekend
not sure if theres anything for your car though
-
Jim, would those discs work with Brembos?
never had brembos so not sure mate,he does this 335mm kit
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/Subaru/subaru.htm
or performance friction do good 2 piece discs too, both are pricey though
-
Are they the same size as Peters? They certainly appeared to be damn useful when I was humbled by a short drive in the chocolate mobile.
think so,the discs are godspeeds 335mmx32mm
-
Looking Jimser.....
How did you get on with the capped bolts?
if the big 1's are too big and the small 1's too small then
i'll cut the big 1's down...phew
fitting fuel rails tomorrow
-
That's a nice set of brakes Jim. Very nice indeed.
cheers mate, bought them from ian at godspeed at christmas when he was doing a bit
of a deal on them
-
as already has been said not much happening this week
fitted 24mm anti roll bars
for detailed fitting instructions see dales thread
also fitted ap calipers but the backing plate/stone guard was a nightmare to remove as
couldnt get at the bolts holding it for the driveshafts so just took off everything in the way;front shocker, driveshaft etc
engines going back in on sat so should get quite a bit done next week
-
Afew pics from last Sunday
nice pics noel

I suspect it will be similar to the old one, some bits are heavier, but others are no longer present. Somewhere between 1000-1050kg
lol i thought i was doing well getting mine down to classic weight!
looking forward to the finished article
-
what weight are you aiming for john?
-
Ach, nae cash left... If ever you are upgrading though, gimme first shout on it will ya? Who knows, maybe by that time I will be better finacially placed to take it off your hands. My other alternative would be to buy PPG's 1 - 4 gears and get them fitted but that's about 3 grands worth. Depressing
if i decide to change it i'll let you know mate
-
mmmm......would it fit?
-
Listen, I have taken too many leafs out of yours and that Peter's book as it is! I don't need any more leafs thanks!
I was happy with my 230 bhp and my Prodrive back box till you and that other swine got a hold of me, now look at me! I'm ruined, ruined I tell you!
What's happening with my gear box? <--------- SEE!
i know john its never ending, make me an offer and if its enough for me to
buy a dogbox i might take it
-
You're taking this too far!
maybe you should take a leaf out of my book john!
-
No probs mate, should have known better.
Just wanted to make sure you had the oil pressure gauge. The other 27 of them will come in usefull too
aye probably went a bit ott but you can never have too much info
-
looks good john......................how much for a gram man?
-
I did notice that the other day just up the road aswell. Offshore thu will maybe go and have a look when i get back if it is still around. Also need to get the money sorted aswell

get you a minter for your £
-
Hope you boys know what you're doing!
Looking at pics of engines being taken out scares the sh!t out of me.
taking it out IS the easy bit
im sure we'll get there in the end though
good experience if nothing else
Looking goodGary popped up to see Jim tonight and he made pretty good progress by himself!
Looking forward to joining this whole subaru thing in the near future! Just not as mental as Jimser
Will be impressive when its done.
cheers craig and im sure you'll be happy with your jdm sti when it arrives

There's a huge thread on SNET about these plates.
Massive drops in oil pressure have been observed and even cases of the one way flaps being sucked thru to the wrong side which means it keeps oil away from the pickup not around it.
Have a look and have a think.
cheers for the heads up colin but i didnt go into this with my eyes closed.
the car you refer to is duncans(dynamix)which turned out to have a cracked oil
pick up pipe!i have spoke to alan jeffrey and allayed my fears of oil pressure
drop and have been assured that there are several cars running these plates with
no issues.i will run with the plate and monitor oil pressure to see how it goes,if there
is any issues then i shall remove it and look at other options.
for the record i'll be monitering:
oil pressure,oil temp,water temp,fuel pressure,boost pressure,wideband afr,inlet temp,
injector duty, exhaust gas temp and more,no point in pushing an engine to the max and then disregarding whats going on(even on a little 2.0l)

didnt spend too much time working on the car today but did manage to
strip down and remove inlet manifold
fitted manifold spacers and put new one-piece manifold back on
took off sump
and fitted 1 of these cosworth baffle plates
couldnt fit new hydra throttle body as we need smaller headed bolts but g.mac has
sorted us out with them(cheers mate)so can get that on tomorrow
-
No holding you back now Jim.
The car does look an absolute minter tho
cheers gus, stewart does seem to keep on sourcing top cars
