STi_Bandit Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 To complement the new headunit, iam going to upgrade the speakers in the car next month, As iam a complete novice at all things audio i would like to know what size the speakers are and what kind to go for there seems to be quite a vast selection out there. So in summary what is a good complement of speakers to go for and size to fit in the orginal space front and rear of the old speakers. Bandit
st3ph3n Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Told you before Bandit - you need more than speakers. Dynomat and all that stuff is also required. The accoustics in the Impreza are awful, it's not a car for good audio. And read the audio faq over on the other side.
STi_Bandit Posted October 30, 2006 Author Posted October 30, 2006 Accoustics are not that bad, i not looking for a tesco car park cruiser hehehe. Just fixing it a little the headunit has probally made the biggest improvement. Bandit
Guest AlanK Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Just upgraded my classics to infinity 6.5" components after a bit of mucking around with gfafer tape and mdf - dynomat around the speakers was better but still nto good - now done inside door skin and card and <touch wood> ratles seem to have gone and lot more volume without any distortion - just running of head unit
sheep Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Bandit here a handy guide on how to replace them. http://www.chiark.com/scooby/icetoc.asp?se...p;subsection=12
oobster Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Martin - here's a link to my setup. Sounds fine to me without dynomat. 17cm in front doors, 13cm in rears http://www.oob315.freeserve.co.uk/ICEsetup_new_24-05-06.pdf
STi_Bandit Posted October 30, 2006 Author Posted October 30, 2006 andy where do the tweeters sit ? behind the wee triangle piece of trim. Are component speakers worth looking at? Bandit
craig mac Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Bandit These are the ones fiited in my front doors and the tweeter sits in the we triangle I also have infity components in the back Also i would agree with Stephen, My whole car, floor and boot are Dynomated http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INFINITY-KAPPA-65-7c...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INFINITY-Kappa-60-7c...1QQcmdZViewItem
wrxmania Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Quote Told you before Bandit - you need more than speakers. Dynomat and all that stuff is also required. The accoustics in the Impreza are awful, it's not a car for good audio. And read the audio faq over on the other side. TOTALLY accurate - the acoustics are terrible. After the dynamat, new speakers, good headunit, etc still way below par should have spent the £600 on something else! Buy a golf or an old Volvo - much better for Audio. You need spacers for the front speakers (decent ones) - the ones from a Vauxhall Corsa fit - that's what I used. Brian []
darryl_martin Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 [Y] Got the Corsa spacers in mine. Just about managed to squeeze in some Alpine SPR-17LS. Tweeters on the little black triangles at the tops of doors. Just need to drill a hole for the wire (which you can't see afterwards), maybe one for a screw to hold them on for sure but they come with sticky pads as well. Was going to go for the infinity's but thought I'd try Alpines as I'd never had anything from them before. Got them from here, www.hendoncarstereo.co.uk [Y] They used to do a beat the best price you can find by a fiver deal, don't know if they still do.
scooby222 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 not a job to tackle yourself unless your awful confident but if you look in the boot there are spaces in the metalwork under the rear shelf for 6x9 s which will give you a huge improvement over any sort of speakers you fit in the rear doors- if you have big enough cahoonas to start attacking your parcel shelf. for me components in the front are well worth fitting but like everyone says dont expect great sound, but you can improve it. whatever you do though dont fit a noisier exhaust after the stereo, you just end up looking for bigger amps and speakers []
STi_Bandit Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Craig, What Dynomat did you get put in, ive been looking on ebay and found DYNAMAT XREME which is a sheet can be fitted to door metal and is self adhesive. and replaces the orginal water proofing sheet inside the door and iam presumming same weight Also would dynamating a car alot of extra weight to the car? Bandit
darryl_martin Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Dynamat is pretty heavy stuff mate. Iirc the Xtreme stuff is the better stuff, silver backing? And if you put it in, warm it up first makes it a lot more flexible and VERY sticky[] Give the inside of the doors a wipe with some meths/white spirit too so the metals nice and clean[Y]
Auldy Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 i would recomend infinity or jbl pro series components all round both brands r gd very gd build and sound quality. i have the jbl pro setup with pioneer touch screen dvd headunit, sounds amazin can crank it rite up without much distortion! i used that dynamat sound proofing aswell but only behind the speaker areas
oobster Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 This stuff might work out a big cheaper. http://www.noisekiller.co.uk/sound_proofing_vehicles_04.php
craig mac Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Try Brown Bread as well Bandit and not the loaf[]
drb5 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Get yourself some Focal speakers off Ebay, Martin. You be surprised how bassy such small speakers can be. []
STi_Bandit Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Is that all the orginal sheet under the bonnet is "Sound proofing" ha learn somthinh new every day Bandit
STi_Bandit Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 Neil, I think i should put this sub-woofer for pimp my ride in the "Jack Hammer" wow look at the monster now that would weight the car down [][:S] needs a wee bit of power too more than a tracker unit lol Jack Hammer Speaker Bandit
