THE BEST/WORST/FUNNY EXPERIENCE IN YOUR SCOOB

Recommended Posts

Posted

The word association thread has been deemed as an innapropriate way to pass the day so i thought i would start a thread to find out the experiences of everyone in the scoob since ownership based on three topics

BEST EXPERIENCE-

The best experience i had during my time of subaru ownership was the May run in 2005. The pace was electric with  the car right on the limits more than most of the way around the route. This was for me the reason subarus were placed on this earth and i will never forget the route (same as november) that Grant set for us and the blistering pace that was set from start to finish. not to everyones taste and there were complaints, producers and arguments but that aside, the addrenalin rush was awesome !

WORST EXPERIENCE-

Joint worst for me was throwing the car off the rails in the summer of 2005 and having to replace the headlight and have the side patched up. The thought process going on behind the scenes as you reach 140 on a long straight before getting to a right angled left hander and the car slipped on the gravel as i came out wide. The car launched off a slope, over a ditch and came to rest in the farmers field.

The other incident was progressing through the back roads of somewhere with anotehr black STI in hot persuit to be stopped by the feds and quizzed over my details. The worst hapened and it all came to light that there was a discrepancy that would see me having to sell the car to ensure my license stayed with me after having resat my full driving test (which i passed with no minors/perfect even)

FUNNY EXPERIENCE

finding a suitable place to skate around in teh snow and ice with grant, gmac, imy and peter. watching each of us have close calls with the pavements nearby

Well said G Unit

BEST EXPERIENCE-

The May Run was superb as i was just a newbie then. And in general meeting all the great people of SIDC..

The event last year was great and done loads of things.

But the best has got to be Track Days without any doubt.

WORST EXPERIENCE-

Getting abused by Captain Fantastic and letting the team down at Crail because it went POP[:'(]

FUNNY EXPERIENCE-

The funny bit was when i took PaulC555 begged me to go back to the pits as he was utterly sh1t scared as i took him round Knockhill in one of my slow mode..ha ha ha ha..lol[:D][:D]

And doing donuts, in the snow, with the gang was amusing too[:)]

Great thread Gumball

Best experience is a tough one. A few stand out. The best moments have been ones with the club. I've been with the club since January 2005, but didn't really start going to meets and things until probably June or July last year due to one thing or another. First trackday was great fun, second even more so. More on the third later. Had some great runs too, Sunday's being the best full day even I've done I'd say. However, the first time I went over the Garelochhead road back in february stands out. Watching 4 cars, led by Gumball, come storming past me and ally after the erskine bridge was incredible. Then blasting over that road with ally leading the way. Pitch black, first time I'd driven it, slighly iffy brakes but what a treat it was. The noise reverberating off the hills. The headlights lighting the way ahead and a bit of flames from a couple of the cars illuminating where we'd been.

2nd would be me following col666, when he had his white wagon, down the A9 after the November run. His flamer kit was armed and we weren't taking prisoners.

Worst - spinning round Duffus last year takes that easily. I can look back and laugh about it now but I REALLY scared myself that day and for a little while I was ready to retire for good.

funny - clyde tunnel on the way back from the Glasgow run earlier this month. The noise had me giggling like a schoolgirl for the rest of the week.

excellent memories so far !! the words, headlights, flames, noise, speed, adrennalin and excitment seem to pop up and i think thats what scooby ownership is all about !!

Anymore thoughts or do the 70 viewers drive vectras like me?[:S]

BEST EXPERIENCE

- Sunday's run.  I've been in the club for a while but always as co-pilot.  Sunday was the first time i drove my own scoob in the runs that Squirrel and I have organised.  It is such a good feeling looking around and seeing scoobs/fellow enthusiasts on the road.  It was even more special cos I was a group leader, the only female driver and I had the only RA that day [:)]

- doing the clothes and the satisfaction of seeing folk wearing the clothes at events

WORSE EXPERIENCE

- the hassle with the Glasgow region early last year

- aggro with a certain group of users

- money problems with the clothing line late last year (through no fault of my own I must add)

FUNNY

have had lots of funny moments but the only one I can think of at the moment is "flying" across Glenshee in the Blue Bomber on our way home from Alford

Best Experiance

The Glenshee Run Last Year

To many to list to be honest, One of the best was being set free in it after it had been modded and Andy F had finished mapping it!!! OMG it was like having a new car

Then there was the track day, i had an absolute BALL. Great fun and the car handled a dream, apart from loosing all my centre caps and the oil temp at 130 degrees c!! Oh and and a set of pads destroyed[:D]

Then crail I suppose, loosing only once and that was no surprise that i lost, as it was to Playsatan2 in his car, Pity it was not an 1/8 drag or i would have had him[:)]He could not get the power down, but when he did it was bye bye time [:P]

Driving it every day too, its ace.

Also managing to get a great deal for SIDC members in and around the Aberdeen area from T&C

Worst Experiance.

Yet to have a major one really, Had a few close calls with wild life on some of the back roads but apart from that very little to talk about.

Funny....

I has to be the Japerformance day when the Scottish  Evo's were there. I went up to see how it compared to Dastek the day b4.............they were all sniggering and scoffing as i arrived, and seeing there faces as it pi55ed all over the highest powered evo of the day, It was comical and i was amazed how so many of them changed there tune after it came off the rollers [:o]

We, Phillip_w and myself, laughed so hard our pee pee things nearly fell off[:D]

BEST EXPERIENCE

Apart from meeting the many fine folk I have since joining this here club back in February, mine would have to be during the run to Crail when something like 17 Scoobs went through St. Andrews en masse. Just wish one of us had had the foresite to go ahead and film it, the look on the locals faces as we rumbled through is something i'll remember for a long time [:D]

WORST EXPERIENCE

Nearly losing it on the run to Alford when I went out to have a look see if it was ok to overtake and there was a Range Rover coming straight toward me, dived back in and the car just gripped the tarmac and starting lurching left and right, luckily I managed to correct it and got it back on the straight and narrow. Squeaky bum time [:)]

FUNNIEST

Alford again, we're scanning the cars lined up when we spot two Evo's parked up at the back when a voice pipes up; "The reason there's Evo's here is that there's not enough of them to form a club of their own" Guess you had to be there, but at the the time, priceless [:D][:P]

Best Experiance.

My best expreriance so far was the highland run we went on last year, i had only had the car a few months and i took my brother along as co-pilot. The roads were amazing ( another big thanks to squirrel and imy)  and i had my brother grabbing the sides of the seats times as we went over blind summits only for the road to drop away on the other side and have a slight turn that i wasnt expecting.

Funny Experiance

At the same run 1) seeing gumball turn up in the full race suit.

 2) Coming round a corner to find a cyclist going the other way calling me and the other drivers a w***er.

I take it some of the first cars through that road must have gave him a fright.[:)]

 3) When the police turned up at the fist stop saying they had reports of a group of cars travelling at

speed and the car park was full of scoobs with the bonnets open trying to cool down.

highlandgathering7.jpg

Worst Experiance

Having to fill the c@nt up every couple of days when i could be spending the money on mods.

great thread guys

best moment, so many over the last 6 years but top has to be picking up the keys to the first one, being 21, driving down the road on a blazing hot sunny day with the sunroof open- just a wonderful moment. also waiting nervously in tescos car park to see if anyone else would turn up for the first inverness meet- the feeling when the others started rolling in then the looks from everyone at the line of imprezas was just magic. and beating a local lad in his shiny escort cossie so convincingly he traded it for a scoob the next week [:D]

worst- without a doubt seeing the first one lying dead in a field 3 years later, theres no feeling quite like that moment when you know theres absolutely nothing you can do to stop a big accident. not the end she deserved at all [:)]

funniest- following my mates to the receptioin after their wedding. they were in an open top 30s bentley and as we closed in on them at vmax they looked back at about 300 yards cos they could hear me coming!

Posted

Best : Knockhill, so much better than i thought really showsw the car for what it is.

Worst : Knockhill, so many faster car so know i need to spend loads just to keep up.

Funniest : All the kids who give a big thumbs up every time you drive past them plus turning my mates face a nasty shade of green when i took him for a hurl.

Best: Richard Burns relay, convoys and generally driving the thing

Worst: Watching a truck on my left deciding to turn right with no indication straight across the front of my car

Funniest: Having a couple of chavs crossing the road ahead of me giving the thumbs up and saluting me, totally oblivious of the police car baring down on them at great speed from the other direction.(complete with lights and siren) Close call shall we say!![:)]

BEST

has to be sundays run, first proper run ive been on with the club, really enjoyed it, and drove the car the way it was made to be driven,

WORST

would be a about a month after i bought the car, was still getting used to it, had a couple of mates in the car, they wanted to see wot it could do, so i put the foot down, came to a smallish rounabout, decided to see how far i could push it round the roundabout, ended up spinnin the car 360 degress and ended up on the verge on the other side of the road, luccky no cars coming in other direction, n no major damage to car, boy i totally sh@t maself thou.

FUNNIEST

still thinking. lol

BEST

the two track days that i've been to, june last year and last month. was just great, even me old man enjoyed getting flung around in the passenger seat last month

WORST

not being able to go to as many of the meets /track days/ runs as i would like due to being stuck offshore/other country and seeing all you other luck folk having all the fun

also, last feb hearing that dreaded knocking noise coming from the bottom end meaning only one thing, rebuild time............

FUNNIEST

could be when me dad took my car out for a run whilst i was away on a long trip and scared the shat out of me ma,

she wont go out in my car now if me dads driving it

Best-

So many, my first ever run in my first ever scoob in 2000. Myself ,Andy N, Dave Brown(ex-member) and the late Gary Mcmillan broke off from the main group as they were going too slow and had our own insane run over Bridge of Cally to pitlochry. November run was also a good un, couldnt believe i could get the car so dirty!

sidc003.jpg

Last summer when i lived in Inverness, went over to applecross on a saturday evening. Roads were deserted, clear blue skies, getting the car off the clock for about 4miles[:)]

applesmall1.jpg

Worst-

Engine going pop on Dasteks rollers this year, still paying for it[:D]

Getting over confident at Crail last year in my old wagon and wrecking 2 doors flying through tyre wall-

crash3.bmp

Spending thousands on present scoob and its still got same BHP as it had when in bought it!

Funniest-

A kid on a bike cycling into a lampost as he checked out my car[:)]

Convincing an ex-girlfriend my windows were tinted (they werent)as she sat naked on a hot summers day on a busy motorway, she wondered why truckers were honking their horns! sorry no pics of that!

Posted

Best: Apart from picking up my first impreza, the run on Sunday was superb, glad the new motor is still alive [:)]

Worst: Being blown away by a bog standard looking Corsa (which was really a 2ltr turbo I heard later)

Funniest: Proposing to my wife while sat in my first scooby overlooking some great scenery in Arran (she said yes [:)])

Posted

Best: Glenshee Run - without a doubt

Worst: Meeting Gayball

Funniest: Meeting Gayball's pet goat

Most traumatic: Gayball offering to show what him and his goat get up to in private.

Not had it long enough to have any real comment, but here goes:

Best:

Had to be the second Glasgow run I attended. The first one was nerve-wracking and exciting all at once, totally sh@t masel. The second I was a bit more comfortable with the car and we had free-run of the roads that night - truly awesome.

Worst:

Filling up and doing the math: hmmmm 20Mpg this week - ouch!

Funniest:

Had to be the day I was racing along the back roads to Callander with my sh1t-scared wife in the passenger seat. She was protesting and bitching about my driving all day (always), so I saw a hump in the road, dropped the hammer and had all four paws off the carpet at the one time. The end result saw her in tears! Hilarious.

BEST EXPERIANCE

Definatly going on the run there with you lot, only had the car since the 8th and already I got a change to push it pretty much as far as it goes (based on current spec of course)

WORST EXPERIANCE

Dare I say it I havn't really had one yet... appart from the ludicrus amount of petrol I've gone through since I got it as I've spent far to much time having fun.

FUNNIEST EXPERIANCE

That would be the day after i got the car on the way home from a crappy football game against the pars. We were stuck in a queue of traffic, about 5 cars back, doing 30 mph on a clear road that I could see for about a mile ahead and no body was overtaking the slow car (limit was 60). When my dad said I can't understand why nobody is passing this person I just said, fine we will. Quick downshift and the turbo kicking in later and we were ahead of everyone in about 20 seconds. This was a rather squirrel paced over taking manuver. After I let the revs drop a little my dad turned and looked at me and said - don't be doing that to often - he was trying so hard to contain his giant grin while trying to give me into trouble. He failed and started laughing.

Oh well.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of good and bad moments over the next few years with this car.
