STi_Bandit Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 As I fully admit iam a mechanic novice, but would obvioussly like to get more into looking after the mechanical side of looking after my car. I was wondering as an idea if the forum could accomodate an how to section, with picture guides. For example How to change your Engine Oil, How to change your spark plugs. and then more advanced guides for the more mechanically minded. Is this something people would be intrested in or iam i the only one? Martin
sheep Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Have a look here http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/index.php?
craigwrx Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I agree that more sections would be an advantage, therefore thus enabling pacific articles to be grouped together ... General Tuning, Power, Performance & ECUBrake, Wheels, Tyres and SuspensionExterior Styling, Lighting Interior Styling and ElectricalIn Car Entertainment (ICE) and SecurityModification, Custom Work and Project DiscussionTechnical Discussion, Faults & Problems and SolutionsMotor Insurance, Law and Finance Discussion the above would probably be an overkill for a forum this size, but a few would be nice.
st3ph3n Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 If anyone fancies writing them and their's an appetite for them to be on the website then why not. The sidc homepage needs content to draw in new members and keep existing ones and that's hopefully what I can bring to the role of whatever it is I am. Web-content-dude or something.
paulc555 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I agree Martin great idea.....for a technical bampot like myself.....[:$] I know I cant be good looking and intelligent as well.....[] I know a Squirrel who has a great knowledge......of everything scooby.......[H] Can we tempt him with a few nuts to empart some of his knowledge, to the dont even know how to change a lightbulb brigade....of which I volunteer to be commander in chief by the way.... Paul
euan_r Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 i had legacy before my impreza and had haynes manual for it. It helped me do a whole lot of stuff when i was novice. Most of it carries over to impreza. You have newer car though so the likes of 4-pots are not covered. car mechanics also had project impreza for a while but they didnt do much bar a clean and polish.
thefastone Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I have to Say that A how to section would be a great thing, as there is a lot of things that is not going to be covered by my workshop manuals, that I would like to know about along with the benefits of having each of the mods done... I am very Technically Minded, But to be honest, thats nothgin without any knowledge of what i might want to do... I'm not tooo muchly bothered about standard stuff that my worshop manuals covers, just more special thingys...
paul_honthy Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Very good idea ! Even for tech type people a section like that could save a whole load of time when having to work on the motor.
SergeantScooby Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Defo a good idea, i have trawled the net since i got the scooby looking for how to's there is some out there but i have bookmark after bookmark and never know which is best to look at for specific info. I No haynes and little info my car is very annoying, i want to get my hands dirty and do some of the regular maint stuff but i dare not touch anything incase i screw it up. A Picture how to section would be good, could be split up into MY groups then split down to sections of the car engone, interior, trans, etc...... there is defo enough knowledge on this forum, plenty experienced people to get things started, i guess its just a little time consuming for the person that would be doing the guide hopefully see one up soon
craigdmcd Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Whilst the idea is a good one, as someone once said - "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing", and the bills that can amount from poor workmanship tend to be far higher than paying someone more capable for the job. My father owns a garage and taught me from an early age that an apprentice can get his papers in 4 years, but that it will take at least that again for them to become an accomplished mechanic, if ever at all. Bulbs are one thing, brakes, suspension and engines are starting to open a Pandora's box. Just my tuppenth worth.
