Utterly Dumbstruck

I have just received a phone call from Arnold Clark, was the old good news/bad news line. He said the car is ready, and running, bad news being that there is a bit of a knock coming from the bottom end, and his helpfull suggestion is that the engine is about to blow up and I need to punt it ASAP!!

I could not actually believe what he was telling me, oh and then he said it was Cyl number 4 that was causing all the problems, not Cyl number 1 like I was told in the first place.

He is saying that he spoke to Subaru and they were saying that when you start putting induction kits, and engine re-maps (car hasn't been mapped as far as I know) on that it starts to cause internal problems, and was told to put it back to standard. A just can't believe what am hearing. I have been told to keep the courtesy car another week, and to try and sell the scooby. Am still in shock to be honest.

Would appreciate your thoughts guys

If it's no.4 thats causing the problem can you not argue that they didn't diagnose the problem correctly in the 1st place?

Also might be worth stating that it wasn't knocking before you took it in so it's "possibly" a result of the work they've undertaken??

Either way - if you haven't done so I'd get straight onto the citizens advice and then trading standards before you collect the car.

Good luck

What was the history of the problem again mate?

If they've just rebuilt the engine and it's knocking then clearly they've not done a good job.

Basically I was driving hom one night, and the car grind to a halt (1 month and 4 days after I bought it). Spoke to Arnold Clark the next day, and they recovered it back to grangemouth renault where I bought it, and after a few days they told me that all compression on Cyl No 1 was lost due to a melted piston, possibly due to oil starvation. They were then humming and hawing, firstly told that they would source a new engine, then I was told they would replace the gubbed bits and rebuild it. Nearly two months later, I am told that the engine is damaged internally, and that it could possibly blow at anytime, althought the car is driving, just every so often there is a knock from the bottom end.

I am tempted just to go get the car back, and see if someone who knows about the impreza engine will have a look at it. I just don't have a clue what to do next. Im am utterly gutted

Certainly doesn't sound good

I would suggest an independant inspection asap and a visit to CAB

I would also not prejudice your case by posting too many details on here

Seek proffesional advice ASAP

Sorry to hear the bad news mate, sounds like a case of bad customer service and just trying to wash there hands of the car ASAP. (imo)

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just back from the branch, the bottom end on it is away. Won't go to much into what was said, but basically the car now needs a new engine.

I will be taking this further, I am not being left with the bill for this, so the sales folk are sorting something out with me, but I am looking to source a new engine for her. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction for a new one?

I would go to the Scottish Motor Trade Association too! They can be found @ 3a Palmerston Place Edinburgh.

telephone number 0131 225 3643 or 0131 225 4451. tell them whats going on and I'm sure they will help. worked for me in the past with outstanding results[:)]

Sorry to hear that....looked minted as well, plus a full service history eh.  Previous owner must have kicked its ass regularly, engines are usually realiable as!

Hope you get it sorted.  I would try contacting Duncan at Hypertech in Bonnybridge for a engine.  He should know someone.

Thanks for that mate.

Thats the thing, its absolutely immaculate, a fantastic example, and apart from the obvious issues I have enjoyed every last second of driving it, that maked it even more bloody frustrating. Has deffo not put me off Scoobies though, I just can't wait to get this whole mess sorted and get her back on the road!

I have sent a wee e-mail to Hypertech, see if they can help me out.

Are Arnold Clarke not looking for one for you?  Or getting a new one???  I would have thought it was their responsability![8-)]

Therein lies the problem!
